Kacky- Your map is too hard. You need to make it easier. Wirtual-.....Ok so we are going to start this map with this insane 720 spin off a plastic wall....
Watching from this perspective, the map honestly doesn't look that hard. But considering that this map is one of the thirteen kacky maps yet to be finished (at the time of writing this), then surely it suggests that the trick is a lot more difficult than it seems. Maybe seeing this map from a guy who built it, practiced the trick for hours, and is good at the game skewed our perception of the overall difficulty?
He definitely doesn't make it look hard, but yeah it's probably a lot harder than it looks. Often cuts on maps in videos look easy to me, then I go try them and realize I'm never gonna get it unless I dedicate like all day or longer and just give up immediately lol.
In all fairness, we're watching this from the perspective of Wirtual - a veteran of both the kacky and shortcutting scenes, and one of only a dozen people to have even finished Deep Dip 2 (nevermind holding the world record time for it). From that perspective, he's going to make a lot of maps look easier than they have any right to be - if he struggles with something, the average player is gonna struggle WAY harder.
Tbf, there is a case to be made that it's possible to go overboard, like you want difficult maps but you don't want all of them to be extreme difficulty or else nobody but the top level players are gonna stand any chance Now, his didn't look too difficult but we're seeing it from the perspective of the guy who built it and practiced on it and who knows the trick by heart, so it's possible the actual difficulty might've been unreasonable even if it looks trivial
Not sure if it’s included in this edit but on stream he was saying they wanted this years kacky to be easier since last time they held kacky in TM2020 it was way too hard
yes they want it to ba hard, but it's also no fun if the maps are impossible to beat. Otherwise there would be only crazy nose- and uberbugmaps that need 2 month so beat once and are pure luck. I think the judges try and balance it out between hard maps and fairly easy maps. Maybe there were already too many hard maps so they told later entries to make the maps a bit more easy. That's just a theory though...
They wanted more of a range I believe, so they wanted some really hard maps but also some more achievable maps. So when the harder categories are already "full", it makes sense to just ask him to make that one easier since they liked the concept.
the 34% joke is in reference to the Midori author time incident. i agree, i think some kacky maps miss the fun element, like wirt's is actually as he said, skill based, if you practice enough you will be able to get the finish, alot of kacky is, slam car into x wall with speed, or, shove car into y wall and x barrier to clip through, but not too far to the left of your run dies, and not too far to the right cause then your run dies, like its just so snooze sometimes. let me atleast feel like im racing while i bash my car into a wall 1700000 times

As of 4 November, map 340 is one of 11 left with no finishes (out of 75). So Wirtual making it seem trivial now it's been nerfed, but it is definitely not.
Wirtual hosted an author metal tournament where people had to beat his author time on a map he created. To get this author metal he used 34% on turning to get optimal speed, which players were against because it isn't one of the action keys provided in trackmania and as such he used a macro.
@@stinus0066 To expand on this, the whole thing is essentially what led to both one of the biggest changes to ice in the game and also much more strict rules about the use of custom hardware like analog keyboards, which has also caused multiple arguments between Wirtual and Nadeo The map in question was also a Cup of the Day, which as a result of the changes is now an impossible author time, and the AT was so optimized that the *only* way to get it was either through action keys or extreme controller precision
