1) be gracious 2) how you get that number? 3) ask for time to think 4) they are different from what I expect. Don’t say high or Low (if they ask u for response) 5) move conversation from negotiation to logistics
After multiple interviews with 15 companies and 6 months of hard work, I finally have two job offers. I am very excited and want to thanks Craig dos Santos for creating very useful and informative videos to help and motivate others.
Finally a video that didn't waste my time with 5 minutes of saying the same thing or drawing one point out for forever. Thank you for the excellent tips, the to-the-point style, the out-takes at the end (love being reminded that we are all human and NOT perfect)! Keep up the great work and thank you again!
Personal thought: if you are looking how to negotiate it means that you have few to none experience in doing so. Do you really want to have a call with a person whose main job is negotiating salaries, eventually with a psychology degree? Chances are that will play with you with zero effort. I've always negotiated via email cause I can choose carefully what to say and ask for advice from people with more experience than me.
Great tips! Just got a job offer that was almost $10K lower than my last position. I said I would think on it but the more I think on it the offer was insulting. Turning them down tomorrow.
1) "How did you arrive at this offer" *pause* 2)"is there anything else that when into this? 3) Ask them for time to think about it 4) if they ask what you think then say "numbers are different than what I expected but let me think about it " 5)When will you all circle back. Say "let me check my calendar"
Thank you very much you inspired speak and.... i got the best deal from negotiating- barely 24hrs!!! AND I ONLY WATCH YOUR VIDEO YESTERDAY EVENING!!! 1 time when i was home, 2 times omw to work and lastly this morning before I went to sleep🙏 so from yesterday evening to Friday evening i got the big call from my employer... and Booom🎆🎆🎆🎆🎆🎆🎆🎆🎆🎆
This is one of the more favorable videos I've watched. It was short, sweet and to the point. Liked the ideas you brought out. Awesome - now I have an idea of what to say! You should do a video for older workers who are not up to the new process of interviewing and job searches! I think they would get a lot out of the simplicity!
I like to stay honest, I will give away info but expect info be given in return. I'm also not afraid to say "thanks but this doesn't work for me" I think is better to keep looking than being stuck in a dead end job with little to no benefit.
I'd say be direct about what you want but don't be greedy and know what your realistic value is. Be willing to walk away if it's not good enough or be willing to stick around until you get a better offer if its even a possibility.
Craig! Your videos have helped me navigate a new job opportunity. I’ve felt confident during the negotiation process and used many of your tips! Thank you.
Helpful, thank you. It'd be helpful to see a video on how to respond when a recruiter has tried to get a preliminary salary figure from you in an interview and we haven't yet met with the most senior, hiring manager (in a 2nd or 3rd interview).
After an offer is presented digitally (letter form) do you respond via email with the counter offer? Or is it better to speak on the phone and discuss?
I didn’t understand a lot of things. What is how I get numbers? And how can I communicate the phone call? Ok. I’ll say thanks and? What will I ask? How will I ask them? For example; clothe codes, job branch, training, when will they send the job offer, where will they send it, I will call his name or his name+surname, will I say Mr? Maybe he is not call himself as a he? Anyway, I believed in not finding a video about these.
I have had a few interviews with the same company. I looked up the typical salary range on indeed. It said for my area 75k.At the end of my phone interview I was very sick, and so exhausted. Then they said the budget was 48k, and a pay raise of 50k in one month. I wrote in a prior written interview with the same place that my salary requirements were 69k-75k for a program director position, and I listed the benefits that they typicly provide.48k is quite a bit less then what I financially wanted in the written first interview. I just said okay. I was so upset with myself. I agreed to move onto the next interview. Which is with three different people (a panel interview) these are people that I have not met yet. When I have the next interview can I talk about the salary, and ask for a higher salary? It sounds like from the video maybe I should call the person back, and discuss the amount? I just had the interview on Thursday alot of days have passed since then. Can you please tell me should I call the lady back and ask where the numbers came up? How much closer they could come up to what I wanted?
Last week, I received the result of an interview I did recently and I was offered the job over the phone. I said okay to the salary they mentioned without negotiating because I am a recent graduate and I don't have any experience in the field (the job is as a software developer/cloud engineer and I studied Biochemistry) - so by taking me on they actually have to train me before I start doing any work that contributes to the company. I am still awaiting the formal offer via e-mail so In my case, would I still be in a position to negotiate my salary?
I applied for a engineering job, got to the last stage and was offered an internship for 3months with a conditional 1 year contract after the 3 months. At the same time I got an another offer and when i told the internship company, they mentioned i could check in to see what they can offer. How should i go about renegotiation, if i have already accepted the internship, i haven't signed the contract yet? Their stipend is about 20% the fulltime
Thank you Craig. Your video was very informative. I have a job offer in hand and I'm trying to decide if I should negotiate or not. BTW, you're not only smart but super handsome.
Very useful Craig. Thanks for sharing and appreciate you putting in the effort to make the video and sharing content. Very useful and appreciated. Keep up the good work brother. Any thoughts/videos on negotiation in the context of international location changes? Eg. Moving from a higher base, low tax geography to a lower base, higher tax geography like Hong Kong or Dubai to say Germany or Sweden, that you can share? Thanks
How can you find out what an exact title/position is paying as a salary? How do I know when I get an offer if it is fair or not according to the area/title? Any specific websites or any paid services to find out?
I liked your video, and the information that you shared in it. Usually, I enjoy outtakes but I have to say that these made me lose confidence in what you were saying. (I'm just giving you some honest feedback.) Prior to that, I thought that your content was very good, and filled with helpful points.
How can we confirm the offer letter is genuine? My husband got an offer letter from indo russian oil and gas agency through a consultant in kerala. Sir please reply 🙏🙏
Dude if you ask them for sometime to think about it twice just so you can get back with the answer, you might as well sign up for unemployment in advance. At most the negotiation process is happened on the first offer within 1-2 days, if you can’t make decision by then. It is mostly going to be over. There is no such thing as second time to think about it. If you don’t accept it first time, there are probably 10 more others dude waiting in line. One is more than enough. You either take it or leave it.

I appreciate your opinions. Because job seekers are selling themselves. So he/she should be soft & positive in approach.

Thank you for straightly get to the point
I literally can’t believe this video doesn’t have more views.
Finally a good video on this subject. Thanks!
2:35 what if they ask "ok what were you expecting?"

Good question! I have an entire video on it here: bit.ly/2IzwVXX
This is the best video about salary negotiation on the internet. Thank you!
Say yes?
Great tips - thanks for sharing and contributing to this topic! It can be scary negotiating for better comp!

You reverse it and ask what is their salary range.

Love the bloopers. Great video
I don’t know how effective this would be for an hourly position.
Not with that attitude! You got this 🔥

These are practical, useful tips!! Thanks much
Good info. I shared this on my LinkedIn profile.
Thanks Nadia! If you have other questions or topics you'd like to see me cover, let me know!
Thanks for this video. Very informative. SN: You are very handsome. It was difficult to concentrate on the information. LOL.
You are a negotiation ninja.
What do we say when they ask: “Different? How so?”
"I want to take the time to give your offer serious thought and give you a considered response, so let's get into that at [later meeting time]."
Not sure if I follow after step 3. Seems like there is a lot of putting off the convo. Does that work in all situations?
Great advice and you are very easy to watch-great smile and attitude. I would hire you!!

Great tips! What if they say “it’s what I paid my last employee” Then they say on Saturday “I’ll see ya Monday!” (on text)
pretty brilliant! thanks
Different in what way?
Fantastic
Step 6 would have been how to actually accept the offer as is indicated in the thumbnail. Great video on negotiating, but not why I clicked.
Looks just like Ramit Sethi.
Badhiya video tha bhai jee
Great video ..wow.what do we do when HR insists on us to tell the number we are looking for
Wayy too much delay . This method needs an abundance mindset because chance are you never get pass step 2. They may never call you back !!
Thank you!!!!
Love the bloopers!

off topic: you look like Clark Kent
Craig your handsome😘
you're handsome*
All you have to do is to show them the middle finger and say: “I’m broke motherfuckers, I ain’t know nothing but I need money.” It always works.
Cute guy! Insightful video! 😀😀
I am fulfill your 1k likes.
NEVER EVER work in Corporate America. Start your own business. Be your own boss. The hell with HR.
If you ask a potential employer, 'how did you arrive at this number?'; they will think you are too cheeky and then retract their offer.
Me: let me think about it I'll get back to you
Recruiter: (hires other candidate)
You’re so cute
never interview an american unless you are hiring for BurgerKing
TOTAL BS!
"Rife" not "Ripe". :)
I don’t know how effective this would be for an hourly position.
It depends on the company. Even as a chipotle food member you can bargain up for more pay if you sell your worth.
