    I love my OXO kettle! I was going to buy a Bona Vita one, but my wife happened to see the OXO one on sale for the same price. This was before there were any reviews of it, but I've always been a huge fan of OXO's design language and commitment to comfort and accessibility, so we got it. Fantastic product.

    I use the oxo kettle for pour over, and one of my favorite things about it is the built in timer. Once the kettle reaches temp, just hold down the button for a second and a count up timer starts.

    The Bonavita actually has a built in timer as well, just press the + button. Unfortunately, the timer resets when you return the kettle back to the base if you are trying to maintain water temp.

    • @MattM-24

      The Brewista also resets the timer when you return the kettle to the base

    • @Alojzist

      I think you're referring to a different thing here, both kettles have time counter on the press of the plus button; the brewista one also has a "timer function", where you set it in advance have the water heat up at, say, 8:30 AM - which afaik the bonavita doesn't do.

    This is great. I need to replace my Bonavita. So thanks. I've used it daily for 3 years, maybe 4. The Kettle is no longer heating to the temperature as programmed. The display might read 208 or 209 but I set it to 205. Sometimes, it may fluctuate right this morning where the display showed 179 - 209 and went back and forth. I checked the temp with a thermometer against what the display shows, and there was great inconsistency. While it's on sale at a good price, I am reluctant to buy the same item.

    No mention of how accurate the temperature settings are. Heard these kettles can be off by a lot from actual temperature.

    • @MrBrownpotato
      @MrBrownpotato 4 роки тому +2

      I had a cheap-ish one, it had very crude control circuit - just cuts off power when it reaches set temperature. The problem is that the heating element has some thermal inertia and continues heating water for some time after the power has been cut off. To hide this, the digital display was programmed not to show temperature higher than what was set by the user. For the user it looks like the kettle maintains the temperature super accurately, while in reality it overshoots. How large is the error depends how much water is in the kettle, could be off by more than 10 deg.
      The Stagg kettle has much more advanced PID controller - basically it gradually tapers off power as the temperature approaches the set temperature, which minimizes overshooting.

    Not sure about the others, but the Brewista and the Fellow Stagg are not fully stainless steel. They have a silicone ring on the bottom where the temperature sensor is.

    • @MattM-24
      @MattM-24 5 років тому +4

      The silicone in the Fellow kettle is "food-grade" according to Fellow. Regardless, silicone is fine up to like 500F and it's also very inert which is why it's used even in medical applications.

    My understanding is the EKG is at 0.9L, not 1.0L. Is that sufficient to pre-wet the filter and make an 800mL carafe of coffee? What about bubbling or spurting water when near/at boil when filled to capacity?

    Josh, we just bought the BonaVita this week. It is not slow as you said. You claimed it took 7 minutes to temp. I went back and timed the kettle to take a liter of tap water to 207 degrees, my target. It took 4 minutes and 53 seconds! You might want to re-do the test.
    If you look at Amazon's customer reviews, the problem with this kettle is leakage.

    I have the Fellow and the Bonavita. They both take exactly same amount of time to heat(I bought the Fellow because I wanted a faster heat time). FYI I refill my Fellow after my pour, turn it off, and place it back. Unreliable. 5/10 times it still starts to heat up the new water and I have to run back and turn of off a second time.

      Same, Chefman kettles deceive you by only showing the set temperature, while the actual temperature (read with a handheld thermometer) keeps climbing way above the set limit.

    • @nancylamb1117
      @nancylamb1117 4 роки тому +1

      I did. After weeks of frustration, I finally put an instant thermometer in the water.
      SO the thermostat in the kettle was wrong and the LCD was not displaying the actual water temperature either.
      I'm not saying it's a bad kettle. I just expected it to last a few years longer than it did.

      Because Americans are dealing 110V AC while you Brits are looking at 220-240V AC.
      For an American appliance to be able to output the same wattage, it need to double the current (amps) going through the wires and circuits. Heating up of the wires due to resistance go up with resistance and currents, not voltage, meaning an American kettle trying to output 3kW will have twice as much the current running through its wires and four times as much wasted heat coming off its circuits and wires comparing to a British kettle on a British grid.

    • @marcusm5127
      @marcusm5127 6 років тому +1

      3kW? Do you have a 3 wire connection or what ever its called in English or a huge fuze?

    • @24framedavinci39
      @24framedavinci39 6 років тому +3

      Brits can afford to waste a ton of energy like that. There are 0.01% the population and land size. It takes me longer to drive to Vegas from San Bernardino than it does to traverse all of England...on a bike.
      XD

    • @VT-mw2zb
      @VT-mw2zb 6 років тому +5

      Phillip Arpin: higher wattage does not mean more wasted energy. Higher wattage in a kettle simply means you can boil the same volume of water faster. The energy need to go somewhere and it's usually the water.
      And as I said: British grid is 220-240V, meaning a 3kW kettle is generating the same wasted heat from its circuits as a 1.5kW kettle on an American 120V grid.

      Gooseneck kettles aren't even all that good for tea, the flow rate is too low. [Unless my tea expert told me wrong, I'm not much of a tea drinker.]
      What these kettles are good for is pour over filter coffee for coffee geeks. We want precise and accurate temperature control, a slow flow rate, and don't need large capacity.
