- Rare unreleased EP from Atlanta/Athens Post punk band, Vietnam. This EP was recorded in 1981. Vietnam formed in Atlanta GA in 1979/1980. Naturally they fit right in with the burgoning art rock/post punk scene that was happening in Athens during that period. The band delivers a potent mix of Joy Division, Gang of Four and The Gun Club. The droning, reverb drenched guitars only add to the recipe. It's a total mystery why this band didn't manage to release anything during their original run. They would easily be up there with other local greats like Pylon, B52's, Method Actors as well as other the Post Punk greats of the time. The band reformed in the early 00's and released a couple EP's featuring some re-recorded versions of these songs.
Track titles tentative due to lack of accurate info.

Great!
There was another (amazing) band with the same name, from New Zealand..
This is really awesome!!! Its kinda like Joy Division + Two Tone ska type thing going on. This has a lot of early 1980's musical DNA going on in it including a bit of Dark Wave. Impossible to pin down neatly. Athens had an amazing scene, so sad I missed it. Well, I grew up in NJ so I had WFMU! On the radio with it since 1986 (they have been around since 1967 or so in their CURRENT STATE).
Here are the actual titles, or at least how they're titled in their album "Past Away":
00:00 - Editor Of Hype
03:34 - Bobby Jameson
06:31 - Teeth
10:02 - 12 Or 13
14:33 - I B B B
In 1983 I heard this on Georgia tech radio WREK and I called and said who is this and they said Vietnam from Athens and I couldn't see them because they already broke up. Son of a bitch. But they got back together in the early 2000s and were one of the best bands ever and I'm sure the other 20 people in the crowd agreed.
bands are like marriages.
Interesting, my late uncle Randy was a member for a time with this band
I new him a little ❤
Devo and Talking Heads are going No Wave
