what i really like about this take on "Playing My Game" is that this truly feels like you are fighting mario. A&A take felt like you were fighting a corrupted version of your beloved hero, went insane for whatever reason but this one feels like mario is the final road block in your way. he doesn't feel corrupted, but he's very intent on fighting you, leading to this dramatic last stand against you and mr. videogame himself. if there is ever a 64 mod where you fight mario himself (not any clones or doppelgangers), this track would perfectly fit the situation. 10/10
Cool fact: much like SM64, Mario’s “game” of which he speaks also has an RTA viable carpetless strat; this is practically irrelevant to speed running, however, as rather than skipping large portions of the level it amounts to a small visual glitch.

To follow up on my previous post, I thought it would be nice if I did my own take on if the Fun Gang were turned into Mario species: Kris = Shy Guy Susie = Potted Piranha Plant Ralsei = Shadow Siren (Same species as Vivian) Noelle = Sleepy Sheep Berdly = Pyoro
If we're concepting some more characters for these tracks, Secret bosses could also be based on playable characters from the Super Mario RPG series! I did more description on undefined superbosses bc the first two are well explained in canon at this point. These are all fanon interpretations of what I think their secret bosses would be like, and this headcanoning implies that there are 6 secret bosses along with Seam being the final one: Mario: Mario (Jevil) IMO "Thank you so much for to playing my game" is a much more Jevil focused sentiment. Plus, Geno is more thematically suited to take Spamton's position. I think it's probably okay to swap the two in terms of their motifs anyways considering this is not as canon-compliant. He is locked away, but is still convinced that he needs to "save" the princess. She must have been under Bowser's influence when she sealed him away forever. No matter how many times he tries to perfectly time his jumps to break the lock, it never budges. (Items: FireBall or MushBadge) Geno: Geno (Spamton) He's literally a toy vessel brought to life through magic, and is heavily involved with the stars and the world's destiny. Idk how much more perfect it could get then that. Pretty much the same progression as Spamton, except his NEO form is called "Geno CDE", referencing a prophecy he is deathly afraid of letting come to pass. If only he could reach the Star Road... But as soon as he sees it in range, the road has already been shattered by... something. Wishes have no effect in this world. Coming to this realization, his purpose is no longer valuable in this world. And so he casts away his wooden doll body, springs and all. (Items: StarCannon or BoostGlasses) Luigi: Mr. L Luigi acts as a stagehand in show production, but in reality he plots to become the series twist villain while they're performing live. He is emboldened by and enlists the help of someone who told him they could change the script of this world. However, he fails as the script was mysteriously rewritten to guarantee his demise. This ends up usurping his plans entirely and fully exposing his alter ego on public television. Now he lives as his fallen villain character permanently to spite the destiny writer above that lied to him. (Items: SchemersScimitar or DisguiseStache) Mallow: Pond Dweller Takes the place of Onionsan, but is obsessed with the pond he lives in. He believes he is one of the tadpoles that he lives with, and cannot fathom any other possibility. Even when he is told otherwise by the tadpoles, Mallow refuses to accept it and instead embraces his true calling; to forever dwell in the pond. They outcast him from the village, because he won't listen to reason and set out to pursue his true destiny. He just continues to sing a song from the sea because someone told him that it could one day transform him into a tadpole. (Items: SirenHarp or ThunderClover) Bowser: P"E"ZZA WARRIOR This idea comes from the character in ICE-E's P"E"ZZA, The Warrior. he chants about battle, traditional fantasy tropes, and how his blood boils for battle. Bowser is the personification of that power fantasy, and acts as the embodiment of that pure violent sentiment. He is outcast through violence committed against the Darkners, all in the name of "getting stronger". It's also said he was looking for someone... but never found them no matter how much he destroyed. So in his anger, he decided that he just needed to get stronger. That would solve all of his problems, right? (Items: SharpFang or JudgeShell) Peach: Toadette (Seam) Being captured and saved is all she's ever reduced to in Mario and Bowser's feuds. She gets strange feelings right before she is captured, and sometimes feels deja vu when being saved. When someone told her the truth about context of these feelings, she decided to rebel against this gameplay loop. Peach, determined, tried countless times. She trapped mario forever, confused bowser by transforming with reversed crown magic, and found safe spots behind shop menus. She learned something important; she cannot change the events in her story. Changing the plot progression narratives is impossible because the people who wrote her stories didn't create solutions for her to solve. Instead, she is hard coded as the main problem that other people solve. If it all happens the same way regardless of her feelings or actions, then what's the point of even trying to change it? So she doesn't progress the plot or try to change things inside of the plot. She is not a holder of what is required to change destiny, nor can she be if she ventures out to get a hold of all the Shadow Crystals herself. She would inevitably fall to bowser or be saved by mario, repeating the cycle forever. She delays the inevitable story in a shop where Bowser cannot capture her and Mario cannot save her. She knows how it starts, and she knows how it ends every time. She might be able to change something with the Pure Crystal in her hands, however. (Items: PureCrystal and PeachCrown)
it will be funny if Susie is a Hammer Bro (or Koopatrol) with a Bully-Like Helmet and Noelle a Blizzaurus-like species (the one from Super Princess Peach) and also that the Shy Guy's mask changes when the Soul changes (like if it's Yellow the mask chances to a Snifit-like mask, if it's Green it changes to a Spear Guy's like mask, and so on)
(Post fight dialogue) Well goomba buddy. ya did it. Im impressed. I changed the code to make it so you can never beat me. Yet you still managed to. I realised this was never about me being better. I love how they made Kris a blue goomba, as they are in the Dark World most likely and when Goombas are underground for an increased amount of time, they turn blue. I like how they made Susie a Bully seen in Lethal Lava Land where they stand around and if you get too close they run at you to push you into the lava. And finally I love how they made Ralsei a Toad because he is a darkener so he should look like he belongs here, and a Toad fits that perfectly. (Minor note I love how they turned the carts into the carpets from Rainbow Ride)❤

I can totally imagine that this takes place in a world where sm64 Mario and modern Mario are separate characters and sm64 Mario is the forgotten spamton character that makes you go on a similar side quest but when you put the “loaded cartridge” into a “broken machine” (it’s a n64) you leave the room with it and are attacked by the Mario head. To follow up on my previous post, I thought it would be nice if I did my own take on if the Fun Gang were turned into Mario species:
Kris = Shy Guy
Susie = Potted Piranha Plant
Ralsei = Shadow Siren (Same species as Vivian)
Noelle = Sleepy Sheep
Berdly = Pyoro
If we're concepting some more characters for these tracks, Secret bosses could also be based on playable characters from the Super Mario RPG series! I did more description on undefined superbosses bc the first two are well explained in canon at this point. These are all fanon interpretations of what I think their secret bosses would be like, and this headcanoning implies that there are 6 secret bosses along with Seam being the final one:
Mario: Mario (Jevil)
IMO "Thank you so much for to playing my game" is a much more Jevil focused sentiment. Plus, Geno is more thematically suited to take Spamton's position. I think it's probably okay to swap the two in terms of their motifs anyways considering this is not as canon-compliant. He is locked away, but is still convinced that he needs to "save" the princess. She must have been under Bowser's influence when she sealed him away forever. No matter how many times he tries to perfectly time his jumps to break the lock, it never budges.

Geno: Geno (Spamton)
He's literally a toy vessel brought to life through magic, and is heavily involved with the stars and the world's destiny. Idk how much more perfect it could get then that. Pretty much the same progression as Spamton, except his NEO form is called "Geno CDE", referencing a prophecy he is deathly afraid of letting come to pass. If only he could reach the Star Road... But as soon as he sees it in range, the road has already been shattered by... something. Wishes have no effect in this world. Coming to this realization, his purpose is no longer valuable in this world. And so he casts away his wooden doll body, springs and all.

Luigi: Mr. L
Luigi acts as a stagehand in show production, but in reality he plots to become the series twist villain while they're performing live. He is emboldened by and enlists the help of someone who told him they could change the script of this world. However, he fails as the script was mysteriously rewritten to guarantee his demise. This ends up usurping his plans entirely and fully exposing his alter ego on public television. Now he lives as his fallen villain character permanently to spite the destiny writer above that lied to him.

Mallow: Pond Dweller
Takes the place of Onionsan, but is obsessed with the pond he lives in. He believes he is one of the tadpoles that he lives with, and cannot fathom any other possibility. Even when he is told otherwise by the tadpoles, Mallow refuses to accept it and instead embraces his true calling; to forever dwell in the pond. They outcast him from the village, because he won't listen to reason and set out to pursue his true destiny. He just continues to sing a song from the sea because someone told him that it could one day transform him into a tadpole.

Bowser: P"E"ZZA WARRIOR
This idea comes from the character in ICE-E's P"E"ZZA, The Warrior. he chants about battle, traditional fantasy tropes, and how his blood boils for battle. Bowser is the personification of that power fantasy, and acts as the embodiment of that pure violent sentiment. He is outcast through violence committed against the Darkners, all in the name of "getting stronger". It's also said he was looking for someone... but never found them no matter how much he destroyed. So in his anger, he decided that he just needed to get stronger. That would solve all of his problems, right?

Peach: Toadette (Seam)
Being captured and saved is all she's ever reduced to in Mario and Bowser's feuds. She gets strange feelings right before she is captured, and sometimes feels deja vu when being saved. When someone told her the truth about context of these feelings, she decided to rebel against this gameplay loop. Peach, determined, tried countless times. She trapped mario forever, confused bowser by transforming with reversed crown magic, and found safe spots behind shop menus. She learned something important; she cannot change the events in her story. Changing the plot progression narratives is impossible because the people who wrote her stories didn't create solutions for her to solve. Instead, she is hard coded as the main problem that other people solve. If it all happens the same way regardless of her feelings or actions, then what's the point of even trying to change it? So she doesn't progress the plot or try to change things inside of the plot. She is not a holder of what is required to change destiny, nor can she be if she ventures out to get a hold of all the Shadow Crystals herself. She would inevitably fall to bowser or be saved by mario, repeating the cycle forever. She delays the inevitable story in a shop where Bowser cannot capture her and Mario cannot save her. She knows how it starts, and she knows how it ends every time. She might be able to change something with the Pure Crystal in her hands, however.

I love how they made Kris a blue goomba, as they are in the Dark World most likely and when Goombas are underground for an increased amount of time, they turn blue. I like how they made Susie a Bully seen in Lethal Lava Land where they stand around and if you get too close they run at you to push you into the lava. And finally I love how they made Ralsei a Toad because he is a darkener so he should look like he belongs here, and a Toad fits that perfectly. (Minor note I love how they turned the carts into the carpets from Rainbow Ride)❤

I can totally imagine that this takes place in a world where sm64 Mario and modern Mario are separate characters and sm64 Mario is the forgotten spamton character that makes you go on a similar side quest but when you put the “loaded cartridge” into a “broken machine” (it’s a n64) you leave the room with it and are attacked by the Mario head. Insinuating the fight pictured in the pixel art above
