Especially when the mummified, decapitated corpse was found. I had a shit ton of books on serial killers (and I'm not squeamish but some of the reading was harsh) but this PoS always stuck with me. I hope the guy who found the bub's body got the help he needed. He went to pieces and I don't blame him one bit.

I've heard construction of highways in the 60's gave them a boost because they can move around fast. Later it became more difficult for serial killers, especially the ones that are more messy, because of advances in technology and media technology.
There was no DNA technology, no cellphones with cameras and very few surveillance cameras around. Much easier for them to go unnoticed. Highway systems made it simpler for them to move around also. Nowadays it’s much harder for people to get away with crime sprees like these people did. It still happens tho. They’re definitely still out there.
