Essentially, the ultimate catalyst of her motivation was her childhood friend leaving without saying goodbye. She has serious mental issues or a mentality below many children for such a minor issue to grow and warp into her anti-cutie mark/equality philosophy and willingness to use psychological torture to maintain control of her cult. While my feelings for Starlight have certainly changed since I made this comment half a year ago, I still don't particularly like that dimension of her motivation. If Sunburst had actively shunned or ridiculed her after getting her mark, I would be more sympathetic. However, she didn't even try to maintain or re-establish the friendship herself after he left, so the fault is much more hers than his.
While I earnestly believe that Starlight could have been won over by Twilight and the others genuinely offering their friendship, and in those scenes, Starlight would realize just how much 'having true friends again', was all she really wanted; the event with Sunburst getting his cutie mark being the first and *only* catalyst for Starlight's actions still bugs me. Mostly because, despite the runtime limits, there was ample oppurtunity to delve more into Star's history, and even show examples of her or other ponies being treated differently, or even unfairly, because of the lack of a cutie mark, or even the _type_ of cutie mark. It's one thing to have moments that could only be expanded so much upon, because of runtime, and then there's missed oppurtunities that can be spotted from miles away. >.
I'd expect twilight to handle things better than this. With her amount of knowledge I would hope that Twi would be able to see that having such a half-flanked reason for her actions there was clearly something else going on, or in other words Starlight was already unstable, likely pre-disposed towards mental illness.
proof Starlight is a terrible character her very origin story is stupid. She was indeed just a child throwing a tantrum for who know how long and even still she is just a child.
Still summarizes my reaction to Starlight's entire motivation....
seki108 uh-huh what

seki108 so what
What do you mean 'so what'? You asked 'what', so I was explaining my thoughts. You're the one who posted on a seventh month old. Any actual thoughts?
seki108 no
How cutie re-mark should have ended.

Now this...
This is how the episode should have gone...
Thanks for the reading :)
But this was no ordinary flash, this was Flash Sentry
I've never wished harder that you would link directly to the stories than now, because the system can't search on "that's it" to find the story. D:
I went to google and copy paste the title he gave with the author and found it really fast.

>going to google
Well if you want to do it the *easy* way...
you are right though, would have been nice to have the link already in the description :3

Also *too and that's all I've got.
