Likely not. Rainbow Road takes keen self-awareness, exquisite and precise movements mastered across a decade of hard work. I don’t believe these “athletes” have the balls to attempt such a daunting task.

I skied the Streif 3 years ago. One section near the bottom funnels from a wide slope to a narrow nearly 90 degree turn. It must take amazing strength to hold an edge on that turn at high speed, without crashing.
A few years ago I hiked to the summit of this mountain. It took several hours to make the climb. I can tell you from first hand experience that there are sections that are close to a free fall. I hiked four mountains that summer. The Kitzbuhel Horn was without a doubt the most difficult. Thinking of skiers descending at the speeds they do, on a course like this…. Let’s just say if you aren’t a little bit scared, you’d have to be crazy.

“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely games.” - Ernest Hemmingway. I think we can add downhill skiing to that list. Probably in place in of bullfighting which is just animal cruelty.
I have skied down two Olympic downhill courses one in Austria and one in Utah. Both times I thought how does anyone just ski this without making turns to keep your speed at a reasonable speed. What these skiers are doing is super human and you realize there are many levels to skins and your not even close to being a true expert. I ski expert terrain all the time, but this is just another level. Much respect.
one thing that really makes it more dangerous is not having the sun out when it's overcast and cloudy you have all that flat light and it makes it hard to tell the exact curvature of the ground
Great video and those skiers are fricken bullets!!!! One thing worries me that people constantly raise the bar of competition and lots of people get hurt trying to be the best.
That humans for ya 🏴☠️ It would be worth doing if there wasn’t the potential for it to go badly wrong. Couch surfers just don’t get it. That’s why they stay safe on the couch while people go do things they can watch on the internet. A few intrepid humans help drag the rest of us into the future, and the rest just follow. It’s just the way of the world.
I took a vacation in Austria and Switzerland about '89 and skied as many of the downhill courses as I could, the Streif being one of them. The point for me was to do it at speed and nonstop of course, though certainly not at these breakneck speeds. (I did participate in a couple of downhill and GS events in my past). A hell of a ride even so. In some ways, the most challenging one is Murren for it's the longest by quite a bit.
Actually it is a red piste, there are only two places where the racing track make a shortcut: The Mausfalle, and the little piece between the OberHasusbergkante and the final shuts in order to get the rough terrain on the diagonal at the end of the Hausbergkante. The only problem is that racers do it on a snow that is as hard as steel!
219 people that disliked this video are Monster energy drink executives and maybe owners of near-by mountains that think their mountain is as dangerous and their hill should of been in this video.
This is one of the most underrated sports in the world along with downhill mtb and MotoGP.

It is credit to the fitness, strength, determination and sheer balls that these guys (and girls !!) survive coming down this mountain.
I always look forward to this race every year.....I have watched it quite a few times and I always have the
same reaction.....Holy f ing shit!!! These guys are super human!!!! They have learned how to focus and
concentrate like a laser beam!!! They block out all of the what ifs and charge...It is truly heroic and any one
who runs this race is a super star. Winning it is very hard for a mere mortal to comprehend!!!
You’d have to. If you get afraid, you’re dead. You have to literally just focus on the moment the entire time. You can’t think ahead or back.
If you're Ghedina , you are allowed to do a little show at the last jump 😄
I skied a run that's very similar, several years ago. Even though it was a "green" run, it was intense ! If it wasn't for the kids on the disks, I would have had a record time. But, that's sports.
Thats were I'm born, I'm very happy to live there, I love Skiing and the Moubtains❤
I totally envy you. That is one place I want to ski.
🇨🇦 We have great mountains but Kitzbuhel is my dream holiday.
Going around a turn like that at 70 MPH
Fkn Madman.
To be fair he didn't really have another chance at this point
Go round turn or turn goes round you
Totally amazing, free falling without a parachute!!!! Nothing on earth like it.
One Hell Of a Ride
2021 bin ich die komplette Strecke vom Starthaus bis ins Ziel gewandert. Wenn man im Sommer vor Ort sieht wie steil manche Passagen sind bekommt man noch mehr Hochachtung vor der Leistung der Fahrer. In 2021, I hiked the entire route from the start house to the finish. When you see in summer on site how steep some passages are, you get even more respect for the performance of the riders.
Forget about the time I would just be glad if I made it down alive
Unbelievable athleticism and sheer will to complete this treacherous course. This is competition at its best!
“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely games.” - Ernest Hemmingway.
I think we can add downhill skiing to that list. Probably in place in of bullfighting which is just animal cruelty.
Yeah, dem bulls are merciless!!!
bullfighting is more fair than Fishing!
perfect video. Breaks down angles, speed, obstacles, exciting to watch
This is only the first half of how my grandpa got to school each day
I have skied down two Olympic downhill courses one in Austria and one in Utah.
Both times I thought how does anyone just ski this without making turns to keep your speed at a reasonable speed. What these skiers are doing is super human and you realize there are many levels to skins and your not even close to being a true expert. I ski expert terrain all the time, but this is just another level. Much respect.
when...
@@Calgaryrocks16 1976 and 2002
2:28 those skis are like rubber at that speed
I see this race every year. Does not get any less terrifying.
one thing that really makes it more dangerous is not having the sun out when it's overcast and cloudy you have all that flat light and it makes it hard to tell the exact curvature of the ground
Downhill belongs to the toughest and most atheletic sports. And you must be a little mad to drive this fast on pure ice!
This track reminds me on Baku in Formula 1. It is a full speed track but tight and with a big chance to crash!!!
Robbie Tobbie nothing like it, Baku is an easy track for drivers. This is way way way closer to death than any current day F1
The precision and control over your body and instruments is unbelievable. One wrong move and your pudding.
This must be a black piste.
lol
times another black pistẻ times infinity = this pistể
Vanta black
Was already there; you can be sure, that it´s black like a black hole in space ^^
I’ve been ski racing for 7 years and this is definitely a goal of mine.
