For any of those that are curious, Ryan Blackwell did become a FDNY firefighter. He preformed a rescue of a women on September 14, 2013 after only 4 months on the job. He is currently assigned to Ladder 32.

Ryan, you had a lot to carry on your shoulders at such a young age. I'm sure you have felt that your dad has been with you as you follow in his footsteps. You certainly are a credit to him.

@@garystadler5583 Really? Im so proud of Ryan. He got to join a SOC unit like his dad, and he is so close to going to Rescue 3 if he wanted to join, just like how FF. Tom Foley transfered from SQD. 41 to R3

The son reading his father's words brought tears to my eyes. I hope he fulfills his wish and is able to be a fire fighter in Rescue 3. I imagine he will be specifically assigned there rather than just given a random fire house. Legacy outweighs random choice.

Man I sat here and cried watching this. It's 2013 and to this day I cannot forget watching the events of that day unfold before my eyes. I had no intention nor any idea, that one day I would join the fire service. But I remember feeling so strongly that day that the world had lost some very important men.

Ten years later, Alexandra, 25, is a police officer at a coastal Connecticut town; Ryan, 23, is New York City Fire Department EMT with plans to follow in his father's footsteps and become a firefighter; and Samantha, 21, is a college student with plans for a career in health care.
Jane, who was once an EMT, said she's not surprised her children are taking after their father with careers in public service and helping people.

That’s why this job is the greatest job on the planet. It’s greater than ourselves and what we do is greater than ourselves. I was raised the same way...To love and respect the job and to love those you serve. Without that love, it would be just another job. But it’s far from just another job and that’s something that all fireman believe. To be surrounded by others who feel the same way about that job that you do, makes it’s worth it and makes it worth waking up everyday to do.

Anyone from Rescue 3 knows exactly what Christ kept in his locker that they didn't show which would have earned him more than just a frown from the city. The only hint I'll give to narrow it down is: "There were no more broken bottles against the firehouse."

Nexus5150 I wish the US would’ve turned all the Middle East into one big radioactive glass desert before 9/11, we should’ve just killed the saudis, the Persians, the Afghans any and all of them, would’ve made the 2000s a better place and definitely made the 2010s a better place. Should’ve just let the soviets had there way with the place in the 1970s and the US wouldn’t have had to worry about it later
