    -new zealand dtterel is a threatened shorebird
    -it is a very rare bird native to New Zealand
    -with an estimated natinal population around 2500 birds
    -the bill and eyes are black
    -the legs are a midtone or pale grey
    -the plumage and the upperparts are brown, male are generlly darker than females
    -i have been lived in nz for many yearsa and this is my secnd time i have been see them
    -i remember that last time i saw them was two years ago
    -length: 26cm - 28cm
    -weight: 128g - 160g
    - wingsan: 46cm - 50cm
    -lives to 20 - 25 years, but due to predation from pests, their average life expectancy is less than 5 years
    - i saw more birds this years than in previous years
    -with the help of the goverment, the number has increased a little bit
    -oystercatchers are also looking for food in this large grassland
    -the wild flowers are blooming and they look very beautiful
    -a very adorable bird that was once on the verge of extinction
    -they are often found near the coast and foraing for food
    -inhabits seashores, islands, river beaches, lakes, and other wetlands
    -mainly feed on molluscs, small crustaceans, small fish, crickets and other insects
    -often eat while walking
    -not only they fast in flight, they are also quick and agile when walking on the ground
    -breedind: often lay eggs in the spring and summer
    -tyipically lay 2 - 3 eggs and are replace if lost
    -the chicks hatch about 28 days after the eggs have been laid
