Sadly the first class offering on this line has gone downhill in the last few years - prior to refurbishment the First Class seats were in a 2+1 configuration and similar to those currently in First Class on the 159 units. There was also a trolley service on the longer routes, but it disappeared during COVID and hasn’t returned since.
My experience of the route years ago with the earlier Wessex Electrics was pretty good - first class compartment all to myself 😁
The Wessex Electrics were brilliant, in respect that they had a bar.
Great Video, there used to be a trolley service between London & Bournemouth but stopped when covid ramped up, you got a really good deal on that ticket also, would love to know where u got that from! Also interesting that you had both special Class 444 liveries in one formation!

I agree. Not much of a first class offer, but the price was reasonable. Like to hear more about your views on the stations. Waterloo has an interesting design, very different to St Pancras or Kings Cross. Which do you prefer?

For the love of God, do not try the dreadful SWR 450 units, and the abominable first class seating on those things.

I'm considering taking it SOU to WAT in early June on a Saturday around 11:00, after getting off a cruise, but I'm concerned about where we'll be able to put our medium luggages (they are bigger than a carry-on). I noticed the luggage rack you showed in the video but I don't think it's meant for anything bigger than a carry-on. What do you think? Thanks again!
I've travelled in first class before. Medium sized you can probably fit it in. If not, you can just put the bag in the seat next to you; there's almost always a spare seat in first class. Standard class, however, is a different story. I would recommend getting the upgrade, but as an advanced single. Depends how much you're willing to spend.

Agree with your view. Live on a SWT route and usually “1st Class” is declassed anyway which shows what SWT know about their 1st class offering. Always think I had been daft to thinking of paying a premium fare, why would I pay for next to nothing!?

Wow, £16 for a ticket to Weymouth?? First class too? How did you get this price? I pay around £40 for a return from London to Bournemouth.
Hi mate, thanks for watching. Not sure, I booked 3 weeks in advance and the prices just came up - some were well over £40 but the off peak ones were £16.
6:47 the stop is actually Woking, not Working.
10:42 The stop is Brockenhurst and not Brokenhurst.
Also at 13:17 South West Trains (not SWR) used to have an onboard trolley service as far as I know.
I just kept adding on the further I got into the video.

Question is why ? This was a former inter city service.
A first class carriage as 2-2 is just outrageous. It always ought to be 1-2.
