I think one of the great things about this episode is that so many people could look at it and see it as an allegory about mental health, being gay, bisexual, transgender, or being neurodivergent. Historically, with any TV show or movie similar to 73 Yards, the shows live on for decades and are still talked about because they have an aspect of the story that can be interpreted in numerous ways by people from all walks of life. I'm not sure RTD sat down and thought, "I'm going to write something that can be an allegory for 10 different things", but it certainly seemed to happen whether he meant to do it or not. Great video as always!
My theory is that Ruby has reality warping god powers like the pantheon, but is not aware of them and can't control it. Kinda like how the Doctor is different from other time lords in how he can't quite control his regenerations. As for the snow, it seems to appear whenever Ruby is close to deviating from her predestined path. "I think it's a warning" as the doctor says. In space babies the memory changed so that Ruby's mother would "warn" the Doctor. In Boom it's when she nearly dies. In 73 yards, it "never snowed again" because there was no Doctor around to warn. Ruby is creating the rules for this "suspended" tineline without knowing it. She made it so Roger Ap was mad jack. As for the plot I think it was all a test by the other Gods to see how she would change the world when separated from every possible companion. I don't think it's a coincidence that Susan Twist hiker was the first "victim" of the woman. Susan could be another god who, right there manifests the "everyone runs away screaming" rule.

Right? As if people all don'T have a memory of the Library anymore when we all thought that River doesn't make sense...and here we are.... I absolutely loved this episode! It's exactly the kind of mystery back that I liked WHO for!
You glorious bastard you did it 😂 I've subbed and basically agree with most the things you said, I personally believe that because the Doctor broke the spell and Ruby read the scrolls The Doctor was removed from time and replaced by mad jack, as The Doctor was the one to break the spell in the first place, so Ruby has to pay price as she read the scrolls that kept Mad Jack bound and by deafeating him she had to live until she died for her to be transported back in time, relating to the fact that the faefolk can take decades to inact their revenge, for the opportunity to stop it before it happens

Great video, I definitely agree with your theory on the episode. I think Ruby does remember some of the events of the episode, she might potentially recognise Kate in the finale and ask if she's met her before
I think that, based on the face the Doctor made when he realized he stepped on the circle, that he let Ruby read the scrolls and get stuck in that alternate timeline because he knew that it was the only way to set things right.
25:36 i really relate to this comment as well, one of the first things i thought when watching the episode was that the woman following ruby was a way of represinting mental illness or neurodivergency, and how you yourself sometimes don't realise what you're doing wrong, yet still everyone looks at you disgusted & runs away. and how that can isolate you, but in the end, it's all you have. and in this episode, ruby even turns it around and uses it for good which is a very positive message
Wow haha did not expect to be shown in this. Ngl I was faded when I wrote that theory out, missed a fair few details. Hope you keep doing these you're the GOAT!
Just finished the Bubble and Dot, I definitely see the Nose Dive/ WALL-E connections but glad they did something different with it and glad it didn't end with sunshine and rainbows
Definitely not sunshine and rainbows…think this is the first time I found myself wishing the day hadn’t been saved… How self-absorbed must a person be to ACTIVELY CAUSE the death of the very person who just worked his tail off to save your life…and THEN to sit there and be ACTIVELY INSULTING to the two strangers that ALERTED TO THE DANGER IN THE FIRST PLACE! I honestly don’t know how to process what I just saw…😳
The one question that bugs me is, who built the fairy circle? It had to be someone who knew what Mad Jack would be someday. Even if we hold that Ruby somehow turned whatshisname into Mad Jack, someone still made the fairy circle in the first place and put the RIP Mad Jack note in there. This feels like a Bad Wolf thing that, after they do the big reveal (like the Doctor himself creates the fairy circle later this season), things will add up. Once that's in place, I'll be able to enjoy this episode more. As is, I enjoy it for its concept done well, but it's hard for me to embrace it until I can understand that fairy circle. Like, imagine "The Girl in the Fireplace" if they never explained why the ship was so intent on getting Madame de Pompadour's brain. That's about where I am with this episode: I like it, I'm intrigued by it, but it doesn't add up.
I thought it odd that she managed to keep the exact same smart phone for 20 years, or that they intentionally called out that she had the same light command technology when she was younger. But it all makes much more sense with the context you brought up of the timeline being suspended, as technology in general doesn't seem to have changed at all after the faerie circle. And, for a show that is all about speculative fiction, it makes sense for such an oversight to be intentional, especially after calling attention to her level of technology a few times in the first time period
Now as am I listening to you, I have a feeling that Ruby got entangled by the fairy magic and her fear of abandonment got mixed into it, because it's a big one for her. Then she got to experience how her life would work out when that fear materialises. She, I mean the 73 yard lady, but she, pushed out all the people that wanted to help. And she was hesataintant to help others (the other lady there, name starts with M) or open to them (dates). She used it for advantage and a big one for that (with the prime minister) it wasn't just bad, sad life. But in the end, when she have seen and understood it all, she changed her messege and helped her younger self and encouraged her, to not relife that experience. It's her working out her issues.
Ruby will always have an eyebrow slit because her actor Millie Gibson had a stone in her face as a young child and required stiches which has left her with that scar. She's said this so many times now even going back to when she was in Corrie.
maybe it's a bit late but i think the old lady is not ruby; apart from the fact that i don't see the resemblance in the end we see ruby's hand brought forward, not doing the gestures the lady was doing, so old ruby and the lady weren't actually the same person in that moment; it was more like ruby could whatch her life trough the lady's eyes
I think the Flux told two stories: The Grand Serpent (Rassilon) being banished into deep space, making a deal with a trickster. This causes the Doctor's 14th regeneration, leading to "Wild Blue Yonder" and then BiGeneration. This leads to the Doctor becoming the Timeless Child, creating Vinder's story with the Grand Serpent in a rewritten timeline. The Flux was designed for the Fugitive Doctor, but by the Doctor finding the TARDIS *after* the Fugitive Doctor at "The Ghost Monument," the Doctor sees their own future in the wrong order, believing it to be a hidden past, and is targeted by the Flux. The Doctor becoming the Timeless Child rewrites time/creates a parallel timeline in which an alternate Spy Master is reborn (unaware the Doctor came before the Timeless Child). Also reborn but separated were the Doctor's parents, Bel and Vinder, following a different path to the original universe. Their child is left at a church as the savior against the Division. By not being a Time Lord/fixed event, Ruby Sunday, as the parallel Doctor sharing the same DNA, can take the Doctor's place before they become the Timeless Child with the fob watch of memories the Doctor received from Tecteun during the Flux. This allows the next version of Gallifrey to rise without the Division's intervention. The Doctor, returning to their own timeline with memory loss, regenerates into the last face they meet (Jo Martin). As the Fugitive Doctor fades out of existence in Ruby’s universe, with this theory, the Doctor became immortal (a fixed point in time) when the First Doctor regenerated after seeing their own future as the Doctor of War, meaning the Doctor must always save Gallifrey to create the cracks in time to become the Twelfth Doctor. Moments after regenerating, the TARDIS drops the Doctor to Earth, creating the Doctor's potential future as the Fugitive, made certain by finding the TARDIS at "The Ghost Monument" and ignoring Jack's warning, leading to the Doctor seeing their future as the Timeless Child by the Spy Master.
Reason for reposting this is the the idea that things that were left unexplained in the last era can be contextualised by lore/ themes in future series, more so if the last era was meant to be out of order/ left unresolved. Ruby was told details of earths future by 15 before she was ‘bound by time’ to live in the version of the future. 13 seeing her future as the Timeless child means the doctor is bound by time to become the Timless child… Also the land and sea line makes me think of 13s regeneration when thing’s changed!
A detail I've not seen anyone point out, is that in the ending scene the Doctor stops Ruby from reading the scrolls. Just like how she stopped the Doctor from stepping on the circle.
Ruby probably found the Fourteenth Doctor before UNIT. He mentions the UNIT and goes to investigate the woman and the same happens to him as everyone else. He tells Ruby to leave him alone. I don’t know, not airtight but simple enough that it doesn’t break the episode. It wouldn’t make sense to film this because it’d mean getting Tennant back for one scene but this is Ruby’s episode and she has no connection to Fourteen and it does really just break worldbuilding in other episodes
I hope in the future episode we find out that the reason why ruby didn't age that much in 73 yards is to do with like those godly powers to do with the snow And the only time when we see her older she brings up that the snow stopped coming what makes me think that because the snow stopped she was able to age
I'm 39 and have an eybrow slit, ever since '94, never expected it to go away so it's not surprising, I regularly had my eyebrows waxed in my 20's and it always made it difficult for them to shape it or make them look symmetrical...
I'm sorry but I'm not buying the "Susan Twist is just the same actor because there's a shortage". 60% of the creative industry is currently out of work due to the pandemic and there are enough actors to cast other roles.
@@dwfan91- It wasn't a criticism necessarily aimed at you, it's a valid theory but I was more thinking it on the terms of RTD's comments. I think it will get a pay off I'm just hoping it's better than we're being led to believe it is.
Hey. A little weird distinction from me and my friend, about Ruby's snow.... We were talking about the episode and I mentioned the two times that it snowed early on. Old Ruby says that it "never snowed again" and I was assuming she meant after a certain point. But looking back at both scenes, we actually have no real reason to believe that it was in fact her snow. When Susan shows up hiking the snow is real. It's all around, it's natural. And later on when Carla and Ruby are talking over the phone, we only see snow falling outside above the skylight. At least twice now we've seen Ruby manifest snow indoors, and you'd think it would be shown again as a confirmation here. But it's not. In fact I'd go so far as to say that it's a clever misdirect, and really a pretty subtle thing... But you do have to wonder why. Why did she stop spawning snow? Maybe the snow abandoned her too, maybe it's based more in spirit. Or maybe it's actually more dependent on the Doctor. In Space Babies he was the one who had the memory that the snow came through with, Ruby didn't even seem aware of it at first...
There is a part of me that wants to consider whether ornot part of the episode is also the circumstances of Ruby existing are also playing with the magic of the fairy circle, given how often the snow has come as a warning of intervention.
I dont think she was saying run away, her mum and Kate wouldn't have behaved like that. I think she was showing the future under Gwilliam, the message was for him, to scare him.
Fairies and the fairie realm exist in the Doctor Who universe though. And it seems like they're beyond the power of others, and very likely the Doctor. Yes, I'm referring to that one Torchwood episode. Those creatures were never followed up with. Which I think is fine because they seemed OP lol. Like god level OP.
I just thought of something funny, and this is not a fan theory. The Doctor's song "There's always a Twist at the End" (that was at the end of the 'Devil's Chord'") may mean that we see Susan Twist as a major player at the end of this season. Nothing more than this chuckle.
I've never completely understood timelines in the Dr. Who universe. They can get twisted and convoluted very fast, very well (?) when taking into account time machines and atemporal entities. Someone should write a book about all of it. 👍
I really love the new Doctor who seasons but Im being honest I really didn't like bigeneration. It's just so weird. Don't get me wrong the show should be allowed to change and stuff but there is so much more they could do isntead of that. If people say Im not a fan, tell me, what was the species at the end of the chase? The Mechanoids. Anyways, you're the goat dwfan91.
I would absolutely love it if there really isn't anything going on with Susan twist and she was just the substitute actress for the set when the actors pull a sickie
I suspect this episode is inspired by “Spur of the Moment “, a season 5 TWILIGHT ZONE episode that has some of the same premise but goes a different way. I love what DOCTOR WHO did with the idea.
do you think that in the current timeline where the doctor doesn't break the circle, Roger ap Gwilliam still resigns due to Ruby or is that just in the alternate timeline from the curse? If that's only in the alternate timeline does he start nuclear war??????
I was re-watching Under the Lake and Before the flood. And O’Donnell says the minster of war happens in the past (they were in the 22nd century) could she have been referring to Roger ap Gwilliam?
I feel like, with regard to why they didn't call in the 14th doctor, that it's perfectly believable to me that whatever banished the doctor after he broke the fairy circle would've also banished 14. They are technically the same person, after all. And if not that, I'll just pretend that he was off doing some kind of adventure with Rose Noble or something. Feels like a weird episode to nitpick like that since it relies on you playing along with the premise.
We looking forward to Episode 5?

13 seeing her future as the Timeless child means the doctor is bound by time to become the Timless child…
Also the land and sea line makes me think of 13s regeneration when thing’s changed!
That was so powerful holy shit
MY MAN MY MAN MY MANNN 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 WHAT AN INTRO
I hope in the future episode we find out that the reason why ruby didn't age that much in 73 yards is to do with like those godly powers to do with the snow And the only time when we see her older she brings up that the snow stopped coming what makes me think that because the snow stopped she was able to age
Like a pocket universe or pocket convention, it's a pocket timeline.
Exactly!
I'm 39 and have an eybrow slit, ever since '94, never expected it to go away so it's not surprising, I regularly had my eyebrows waxed in my 20's and it always made it difficult for them to shape it or make them look symmetrical...
Well I think it looks awesome
dot and bubble drops in 13 minutes, good luck brothers
I'm sorry but I'm not buying the "Susan Twist is just the same actor because there's a shortage".
60% of the creative industry is currently out of work due to the pandemic and there are enough actors to cast other roles.
Don't worry I was just kidding
@@dwfan91- It wasn't a criticism necessarily aimed at you, it's a valid theory but I was more thinking it on the terms of RTD's comments.
I think it will get a pay off I'm just hoping it's better than we're being led to believe it is.
@@ChrisKeziahHyde Given she's the villain for the finale I don't think there's any doubt
Of course Millie's eyebrow was the same as an older version of Ruby. It's a scar. She fell down the steps as a baby.
The snow stopped because the timeline was suspended aka her abilities were suspended also, I should've made this clear in my theory so thank you!
There is a part of me that wants to consider whether ornot part of the episode is also the circumstances of Ruby existing are also playing with the magic of the fairy circle, given how often the snow has come as a warning of intervention.
you ever had a hershey's cookies and cream bar from tesco? this goes hard ngl
U predicted the venom trailer at the beginning.
Hey man, great video. Since you said when they merge she goes reverse through time can you find a translation of the sign in reverse?
I'll look into it🫡
I dont think she was saying run away, her mum and Kate wouldn't have behaved like that.
Im pretty sure Millie Gibson actually has a scar through her eyebrow and thats why she has a 'slit' the whole time
I just thought of something funny, and this is not a fan theory. The Doctor's song "There's always a Twist at the End" (that was at the end of the 'Devil's Chord'") may mean that we see Susan Twist as a major player at the end of this season. Nothing more than this chuckle.
for the eyebrow slit - many people just have a scar there i think its jason momoa who has a scar
Same. Love me some meta theory!
Fantastic episode, dot and bubble was also great 👍
Hell yeah it was!
@@dwfan91- Loved how Linda backstabbed September boi btw in the rewatch was he headshot
@@Nomiplus123 Yeah brutal as hell😂
#JusticeForRickySeptember 😢
I was re-watching Under the Lake and Before the flood. And O’Donnell says the minster of war happens in the past (they were in the 22nd century) could she have been referring to Roger ap Gwilliam?
I think she was referring to the Grand Serpent
Yes! Part 2!
The new episode tonight says turn left waaaaay too many times to not be important.
This dude is so iconic
i hope H. arbinger comes back if they have a batle of the gods story. maybe as ruby's harbinger if ruby is powerful in that way
Lmfao the difference in the what’s up everybody😂
I feel like, with regard to why they didn't call in the 14th doctor, that it's perfectly believable to me that whatever banished the doctor after he broke the fairy circle would've also banished 14. They are technically the same person, after all. And if not that, I'll just pretend that he was off doing some kind of adventure with Rose Noble or something. Feels like a weird episode to nitpick like that since it relies on you playing along with the premise.
Come on bruh I gave the episode a 10/10 am i not allowed to have a little joke
I think sci-fi fans specifically prefer explanations, even technobabble ones.
Why couldn't UNIT contact the David Tennant doctor during Ncuti's disappearance (contractual issues aside, obviously).
Bubble in 1 min, exciting time to watch a bit of DwFan91
