Nice video! A friend of a friend found two of these radios plus numerous other accesories in his mothers basement. It used to belong to his father who was a radio operator in the military. He is willing to sell the equipment but neither of us knows if anything works. Sitting in a basement for years can't be good for any electronics.I'm going to make him an "as is" offer for the lot. I really like the quality and serviceability of older electronics.
Hi. It's nearly 9 years later. Do you still have it? Have you had any more problems since this video was made? I'm thinking about getting a 830. I had a 520S and two different sets of 599D Twins back when. Love my Yaesu FT-817ND but...nothing like the warm glow of two 6146B's thumping out over 100w in the low spot of the sunspot cycle. HiHi!
Can you even see the glow? I hear that cliche over and over again but how can you see that "warm" glow when the cover is on the PA unit is sealed? All this nostalgia over the glow of the tubes that no one can see ...
Hi Lee, Take a look at the video i have regarding the FL2100 amplifier, It shows how to discharge the capacitors in that video, Take note of the probe ive made. Lee be VERY VERY carefull if you do inside any mains amplifiers as the voltages can be LETHAL. Stay safe...
hi, okay? also have a ts830s, my doubts, when changing the valve with a new one like you have to adjust anything else on the radio? adjustments beyond the load, drive, plate? my ta with full RF smeter scoring. I can not adjust. and not used dummy load that influences? Thank you. 73.
Once you change the PA valves you should ' Neutralize ' Them... This is best done on 10 mtrs, Have a look at N6WK website, The TS-830 survival guide, It tells you how to do it on there, Or refer to the operators manual.

Neutralizing the tubes and checking the idling current are both important to do after replacement of the two 6146b (s2001) output tubes.
Thanks for sharing...
