Biographies say she was charming and had a way of making people feel flattered and important - the tragedy for her was that she couldn’t escape Edward and was stuck serving him for the rest of his life. Maybe that made her brittle - she was already probably pretty shallow, a social climber at heart.

The big difference was that Edward was loved (sort of) by his wife. She doesn’t seem to have tried to be more “loved” than him. She didn’t walk in front of him and pretend to be royal. And with no internet, it was easy to keep his treachery unbeknown to the public of the day. Even in France, after the war, if they had known of his German friendships, they would have been crucified. But Churchill and the Queen agreed to have the records sealed for 50 years. These records have now come to life, but very few people under 40 are interested in history. So his reputation remains relatively intact. Harry is a whole different story ( same low morals and ethics), as the internet sleuths can reveal his lies almost as soon as he tells them. She is a far bigger liar, but he goes along with them because he is terrified of her. I also think he suffers from a need to be loved, and she love bombs him and he is pretty thick. But their end is coming soon, I think.

Unless the Hollywood duo visits Russia, Belarus, Myanmar, or Somalia, their present vacation destinations aren’t having the same effect. Churchill wanted to avoid war, but saw it coming. I absolutely buy the theory that H. Promised he would restore Edward to the throne and possibly the new king of Europe. Edward’s vanity bought it.
