- Asura’s Wrath is a very unusual game. Its presentation and structure are unlike anything I’ve played before and although the gameplay isn’t entirely original, it still feels like a fresh experience ten years on from launch.
This review / retrospective will look at its development history, the DLC, how to unlock Asura's Wrath's true ending, what it’s like to play, its technical performance, the possibility of an Asura's Wrath 2, who I think will enjoy it and the best platform to play it on today.

A huge shout-out to my mate Dave who lent me his copy of the game after I realised I had purchased the wrong region DLC for the disc I had.
You are a life saver my dude!
Liam O’Brien said in an interview that Asura was and still is his least favorite voice to do due to how painful it was to his voice. He had to drink 5 Bottles of water.
Legendary: 💪 🗿
A full analysis of the game that I really needed in order to understand if I would like owning (and playing) it or not. Thanks.
No worries!
This game is amazing, really. I remember it, because it's a true massive kinda action movie + japanese minds made it like no one else can
I took it like an interactive anime and was very excited about the way it was presented to be honest. I thought it was going to be the beginning of a new medium to play with. As a game it's okay but as an interactive story it's a whole lot of fun I can't lie. And as far as QTE's go this was one of the best ways to do them. And I enjoyed the rail shooter bits too. Honestly.....this is a interactive movie in the tradition of Snatcher and Policenauts, but the next level. I wish there were more of these types of projects. I really do.
One of the few games where I didn't mind the QTE. We need more balls to the walls batshit insane games (experiences?) like "Asura's Wrath". I recommend "El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron" which I consider AW's sibling. But where AW is violently bonkers, El Shaddai is sublimely bonkers. It also features a lot of different playstyles, from platforming to racing in uniquely distinct settings. You won't "get" the game after a playthrough, but at least the ride will feel unique and sometimes that's all you need. Not every game needs to be "War & Peace", deconstructing the human condition in a cinematic presentation blabla. I advocate for AAA publishers to fund more often experiments like AW and ES fully expecting to lose money, but doing it for art's sake.
I need to check out El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron. It continually gets mentioned.
can’t help but feel the guts inspiration for asura
I thought it was only me I always felt that Asura and Guts are similar.
I loved this game and really wish it got a sequel.
im with u:the fighting scenes always puts a smile on my face than most modern games
I just bought it but why is there 0 gameplay its a movie
This game needs a definitive edition rerelease
Badly. Even clearing up the screen tearing would be enough for me. I guess there's PC but something that consolidated all the DLC would be nice.
If capcom were to make MVC 4 (not counting Infinite) I want Asura on the roster.
Yeah that modded version of him in UMVC3 is ridiculous!
@@goukigod I was talking about Asura possible being in MVC 4 if it were happened, I wasn't talking about a mod.
While the game Asura's Wrath might have received average to mixed reviews from gamers I still think he should be in MVC 4 since his design and move set would be a perfect candidate for a game such as Marvel vs. Capcom also just imagine a scene in the story mode where Asura and Hulk had a rage off or Asura and Doc Ock fighting each other with their Mutiple arms.
Heck at one point the official Marvel vs. Capcom 3 twitter account even sent a tweet out acknowledging this.
Quality assessment!
Cheers!
It's one of those PS3 titles that I missed, but I had it on my radar ever since it was released. I can't believe it's been 10 years! It is on the expensive side these days and I was about to ask if you think it's worth 35 €, but realized it really depends on a lot of things, so... if you didn't own it, would you have bought it today?
Yeah crazy. That ten years has gone by fast hey!
EB Games (Game/Game stop) were getting rid of all their 360 and PS3 games about 18 months ago and I got my copy for a bargain $5! It's in excellent condition but I didn't realise that it was a north American disc so the DLC I bought didn't work for it.
Hard to say if I'd spend that much on it. All up, including the DLC, I've spent about $25 which feels right. You can still find new copies out there. Play Asia for example is still selling the Japanese version www.play-asia.com/asuras-wrath/13/704g41?ref=google_br
I really love the art style of this game, and every time I see the digital version pop up on sale for the Xbox store, I still think about buying it.... but the fact that its so many QTEs and on-rails shooter stages is too much of a turn-off. I have to think it would've really shined if they just focused on stylish brawling action with big set pieces (like a Platinum title, I guess), but I know QTEs were the style of the time.
I wonder just how different CC2 would approach this if they were to make it - or a new game with a similar look & universe - today; I would _love_ to see them just make a God Hand/Anarchy Reigns/God of War(Dad of Boi)/Evil West-style over-the-shoulder epic brawling adventure and cut out loads of the extraneous stuff. Seems like they could build on their anime arena fighter tech/experience to make one of those pretty smoothly nowadays.
Still, this art design looks incredible. There aren't nearly enough space opera/eastern mythological/silkpunk-looking games out there. Kinda reminds me of Omega Force's old Crimson Sea series for Xbox and PS2, just WAY more over-the-top. Beyond that though? Really having trouble thinking of anything else even in this same neighborhood, artistically...
I hear what you're saying about the QTEs, although I don't know that they could've made the same game (at least back in 2012) without them.
if it’s less than 10 bucks, it’s definitely worth it.
i wish we had some sort of sequel. be it another game or an anime or something
I'd recommend checking out the manga and DLC if you haven't already
@@goukigod If Capcom were to make MVC 4 (not counting Infinite) I want Asura on the roster.
The developer has done exactly what it set out to do - "create something audience has never seen before". It was the worst and over-the-top of a game that I had never ever seen and played before. So bravo!
😂
Worst? So u have a shit taste I see
