If for a moment, you imagine stumbling across this video without realising it is a tuner shootout, the viewer could assume, without context, that its a video about a man who has four tuners and spends 23 minutes trying to get his guitar in tune. just a thought that made me smile.
Always been using korg tuners as long as I can remember , been using the pitch black pedal and pitch clip 2 , recently got a peterson strobo clip hd ($60 usd clip on tuner and quickly learned it's far more accurate then both my Korg products great for intonation gonna get the newer peterson strobo stomp hd here soon to use my Korg stuff for jam sessions (when I pack light meaning one pedal and just amp no pedal board)
jag man, I ain't gonna watch this whole vid because of the comment above you from imantisocial. I'm interested in the Behringer TU300. A tuner is a tuner, if my 40 year old tuner works great then any tuner works. Any negative points to the Behringer? Please reply thx.
Your ear should be able to hear the difference. You don't need something accurate down to 1 cent. Hell, a guitar intonation isn't even perfect unless the frets are slanted and specially designed.
I think it would've made for a better test if the accuracy of these tuners would've been tested as well, like use a 100% accurate known note such as that of a tuning fork and see which tuner is the most accurate. It's all well and good tuning a guitar string with a tuner but how do you know which note is the true note? There was obviously some discrepancy between these pedals and I'd rather have a tuner show me the true note and it take an extra couple of seconds to tell me rather than it tell me an incorrect note quicker.
I just won a Peterson VS-S for $40, in an E-bay auction. I wanted it for doing set-ups and after watching this video, I'm pretty confident that I made the right choice! Thanks for posting this!
I have both the expensive Polytune and inexpensive TU300 and use the TU300 daily. I like the bypass feature and it is equally as accurate as the more expensive Polytune. I do use the strobe feature of the Polytune to set intonation so there is value to owning both. As a daily tuner, TU300 does the job for far less $$$.
I ain't gonna watch this whole vid because of the comment two above you from imantisocial. I'm interested in the Behringer TU300. A tuner is a tuner, if my 40 year old tuner works great then any tuner works. Any negative points to the Behringer? Please reply thx.
It's a great video and a pretty fair comparison of this range. All those little inaccuracies are not massively important in a rock band as nobody is perfectly in tune anyway, and all drifting flat at the same time is less unharmonious (is that a word?) than just one person in perfect tune! Besides, when I open my mouth and start singing, the idea of 'in tune' becomes something of a 'moving goal post'.... Rock and roll should always be slightly out of tune anyway...
Very interesting ... I'd like to see them get an individual test as there's no saying on the quality of the internals and what they might do to each other... Cheers!
Whats not being considered are the sweeteners the Peterson has. None of the other pedals have sweetened tuning settings. No instrument is perfect harmonically and needs compensation across the strings in order to truly be in tune harmonically.
I really don't care how quick my tuner reads. I do care that it's as accurate as possible. I just switched to the Peterson VS-S. I use it for setting intonation after guitar setups. But it isn't on my pedal board.
Great vid. Thumbs up on the boss as the reliable and quick responder. Interesting that the tc appeared to recognize the fundamental over the Peter and boss.
Would be helpful to know if the position in the signal chain affects the tuner? Also, in terms of viewing, the PolyTune was easiest to read, The Peterson made me feel motion sick, the Boss and Behringer were much of a muchness, true the LED was too bright on the Behringer, but both worked like my 'vintage' 1980s Chromatic tuner. Also don't forget all guitars are inherently, slightly, out of tune, even when to concert pitch.
Missed the Korg Pitch black Poly mate. After decades of shitty tuners I swear by it.Though I did use a Beringer for a couple of years before it had a psychotic breakdown!
Good Video! I for one have the Boss TU3 and a Peterson Clip Tuner. 99% of the time i use the Boss. Got them for Years and never had any Problem with it. Only for Acoustics i go with the Peterson. However, that Polytune looks interesting.
I use the polytone because i m used to it, sometimes i compare with the tuner on my vox amp. Polytune is excellent for setup with a floyd rose even on stage, it works 10 times faster. My polytune comes on the side, on the open channel (continu bypass) on my martin overdrive so it is not in my stompsetup. I will buy a peterson for a setup and finetuning on the bench.
After seeing this I would put the polytune on my pedal board. The Peterson is great but it costs more and its shape makes it unsuitable for a small board.
I have a Polytune and it works great BUT switching to alternate tunings is a pain. There is a tiny button on the side which gets obstructed by the cables. Thinking about getting a boss just because of that.
Lol... this is a terrible video because he does not explain how each tuner is different... a strobe tuner is the most accurate tuner in the world... no other tuner is .01 of a cent accurate.
Maybe the same signal should be fed to each contender, instead of through every worst contender untin you find the real tuner. ;) To be frank, as a Strato player the tc-e polytune is the fastest tuner that I have ever used. I use the Digitech RP255 and frequently have to use the tuner in that thing, it is a goddamned slow process compared to the polytune.
An ultimate tuner shootout should include the Turbo Tuner from Sonic Research. By far the best, IMO. You should have used the Polytune in strobe mode. If that is a Polytune 2 then in strobe mode I believe that it is actually more accurate than the Peterson. According to the specs, the Boss TU-2 is the least accurate of them, except the Behringer which I would not recommend to anyone at any level because it's horrible. I can't believe that you used it. When you tune, turn the tone pot all the way down and use the neck pickup. That will eliminate harmonic notes that will confuse tuners.
Polytune is Easiest on the Eyes and has the Strobe Mode for even more accuracy. The thing that TC completely Ruined was the 30% Dimmer L.E.D. on the Polytune 3. Why ??? Tore? Why ??? - what happened to the Reta Scorching Display !!!
Regardless of how this test came out.. the peterson is the best of these 4.. period... instead of playing a guitar into them.. feed some real calibrated tones from a signal generator... check how many cents the other are "off center" in any given tone..see how many cents they show in-tune... the peterson is best for setups and pre show tuning.. for something on a dark stage, where you just need to get close.. i prefer a korg rack mount.. and if i want something at my feet... the tc poly or boss are about the same.. none work like a real strobe tho.. get a peterson 490/590 or any older strobe.. 450 is nice strobe.. or get a Conn stroboscope... old school but deadly accurate... once again... get what you like.. but you can't compare a real strobe tuner to any other.. the other's aren't designed to be as accurate.. hence the way lower price point.. and the VS-S isn't made any longer..
You are not supposed to use a pick tho! It specifically says it in the manual of all tuners.... it seriously ruins the video if you are going against the guidelines provided by the manufacturers....
Get a Peterson strobostomp hd. It is .01 of a cent accurate, boss tu2 is 1 cent accurate. The cost of a Peterson strobostomp hd is $120, the cost of a new boss tu2 is $100.... the $20 is well worth it, I promise you won’t be upset.
everything in modern music tech is downtuned slightly so it sounds crumby - tune up a smidge, like A:442.657478 but if feasible, tune to your voice or instrument natural resonant frequency yo (hint: combine)
without context, this is a video about a man who cannot tune a guitar, despite purchasing four tuners.
If for a moment, you imagine stumbling across this video without realising it is a tuner shootout, the viewer could assume, without context, that its a video about a man who has four tuners and spends 23 minutes trying to get his guitar in tune. just a thought that made me smile.
@@imantisocial3179 Hahaha!
made me laugh out loud
Lmao great comment , I'd love to see if position in the signal chain effects the tuner as well.
I've been using the TU300 Behringer pedal for years and is excellent.

I hear it's junk or it's great. I'm just going to buy it and find out. It's $19
What do you think of the behringer tu100 or what is the difference with the tu300?
The way to the test accuracy is with a 440 hz signal from a tone generator.
Your ear should be able to hear the difference. You don't need something accurate down to 1 cent. Hell, a guitar intonation isn't even perfect unless the frets are slanted and specially designed.
Left out the best features of the Polytune, It also has strobe tune mode. And auto dimming of the display. And USB jack for updates etc..
Beautiful and accurate my TU300 tuner pedal.
I think it would've made for a better test if the accuracy of these tuners would've been tested as well, like use a 100% accurate known note such as that of a tuning fork and see which tuner is the most accurate.

The Polytune have stroboscopic funtion, is more precise...

Thanks for this shootout!

So I should buy it because it's $19? Ok fine brb
Thank Gawd! Actual demo and information! Great job!
Is Polytune 1, on the prices Is the Politune 3...
I've been using the boss tu2 for quite a while...perfectly happy with it. And its 100% on with my ovation built in
POLYTUNE - it had the clearest display to me. I'd use it at home and open mic. Cheers!
I honestly don’t think there is a better than a Peterson.
Ez to use and great, consistent results.
I agree. I traded my polytune for a Peterson. After getting used to it, I think its awesome.
The poly tune is following frequency's just like your pickups, the others are selecting frequency's individually.
this is the weirdest race I've ever watched. 10/10 would watch again in a few years.

You have to go with Boss every time. It's bombproof! The Boss GT100 and GT1000 have the same polytune function in their tuners!
Yes, admidedly they are like Toyotas, as reliable as the sunrise.
I have the chromatic tuner. I use it in my home play room/studio. I was interested in your video to see whether or not I need to get a better one
I really don't care how quick my tuner reads. I do care that it's as accurate as possible. I just switched to the Peterson VS-S. I use it for setting intonation after guitar setups. But it isn't on my pedal board.
I have owned Peterson Strobes and the Polytune 3 . Both are great tuners.
I love the tuner on my Shure GLXD16 wireless system. It eliminates the need for a separate tuner; but you wouldn't buy it just to get the tuner ;)
Great vid. Thumbs up on the boss as the reliable and quick responder. Interesting that the tc appeared to recognize the fundamental over the Peter and boss.

Behringer TU300 works better for me, for years.
I have the Boss TU-3 and I think it's pretty good!
I love my Boss TU2.
Ive got the Behringer TU300 and it does the job
yeah man me too,had it years
Dave R Hi Dave, I'd like to know if the Behringer tuner is buffered. Is it buffered?
may i know which of these are buffer bypass?
Are these Stereo Tuners?
The Boss TU3 is far more popular and better than the TU2.
The TU-3 is more accurate than his little brother. TU-2 had an accuracy of about 3 cent and the TU-3 has an accuracy of 1.
Missed the Korg Pitch black Poly mate. After decades of shitty tuners I swear by it.Though I did use a Beringer for a couple of years before it had a psychotic breakdown!
I use the Kliq mini tune and its nice
Good Video! I for one have the Boss TU3 and a Peterson Clip Tuner. 99% of the time i use the Boss. Got them for Years and never had any Problem with it. Only for Acoustics i go with the Peterson.
However, that Polytune looks interesting.
The polytune literally says true bypass on it lol
I use the polytone because i m used to it, sometimes i compare with the tuner on my vox amp. Polytune is excellent for setup with a floyd rose even on stage, it works 10 times faster. My polytune comes on the side, on the open channel (continu bypass) on my martin overdrive so it is not in my stompsetup.

The behringer and polytune are very similar cause behringer Co owns Tc Electronics, so they probably have a similar circuit...I dunno :)
Nar completely different, the poly tune was made before they sold out to behringer, the tu300 is a cheap copy of the tu3
How in the actual hell do you read the peterson? All i see is blocks moving around lmao
Are you at a church? It's a familiar scene to me.@@kennisrussell
you see blocks moving....tune till you see blocks NOT moving. Also, great tuner for intonating your ax.
and your last name is PETERSON! How ironic! :-)
Matthew Peterson 😂 I had the same thought.
Lol... this is a terrible video because he does not explain how each tuner is different... a strobe tuner is the most accurate tuner in the world... no other tuner is .01 of a cent accurate.
The Polytune 3 have buffer...
Why does the Polytune say "True Bypass" on the front if it doesn't have bypass? False advertising?
I'd buy the D'addario tuner pedal. Their tuners are extremely accurate.
They are good but i need something with batteries for street performance
I need a tuner that will tune me to open d etc not just standard tuning. What do i get?
Chromatic
G3 = 195.997718 Hz
(C4 = 261.6255653 Hz)
This is kinda strange but thanks, I guess. I grew up rebuilding pianos so tuning is tuning and a tool is just another tool.
Boss wins because it has a bypass out and daisy chain on top.
Polytune can do daisy chains as well.

Great advice! Lots of tuners advise this deep in the manual somewhere but nobody, including me, ever does!

i have a peterson 450 on the bench and a couple Conn Strobotuners.. One of my Conns was Clarance Gatemouth Brown's personal tuner..
You are not supposed to use a pick tho! It specifically says it in the manual of all tuners.... it seriously ruins the video if you are going against the guidelines provided by the manufacturers....
Guess im gonna go with the TU2 , for playing live
Get a Peterson strobostomp hd. It is .01 of a cent accurate, boss tu2 is 1 cent accurate. The cost of a Peterson strobostomp hd is $120, the cost of a new boss tu2 is $100.... the $20 is well worth it, I promise you won’t be upset.
everything in modern music tech is downtuned slightly so it sounds crumby - tune up a smidge, like A:442.657478 but if feasible, tune to your voice or instrument natural resonant frequency yo (hint: combine)
Just tune down an octave. E1 standard in 440 is fun, grating and super beefy with a high gain amp or sparkly clean.
should have called this the expensive tuner shootout
You can pick up most of these used for around $20..
Peterson for $200 is definitely the worst design for the case and display.
Polytune=behringer tu300....and behringer more cheaper ..
No tuner on earth can help him.
Probably true. I am hopeless.
23 minutes to tune a guitar...far out man Use your phone APP!!!!!!
Save money, use your ear.
What tuner pedal did the Beatles use? Their ears! Lol
