I was 5 years old, and living in the Gray's Ferry section of Philadelphia, when this happened. In 1986, I ended up moving next door to the Shannon's in Darby. Their son Bob Jr. went on to be Quaker City's captain. I used to see him, when he came to visit his mom & dad. The whole family was really nice.
Excellent performance. Great musicianship and coordination. But what you don't see are the major props, staging, and team dancing. Some might say it was a tad more "primitive" or minimalist in those days. Ah, but it was grand just the same. Kudos to Quaker City SB for their continued successes.
I agree completely. The bands have almost no banjo players anymore and all they obsess over is props and sets. What is shown in this video is 1000 times better.
Just out of curiosity who is the announcer seen on the early part of this video? I know the unseen lady was Connie Ruisin although I heard her call him Roy. What was his last name. I don't think I remember him at all.

They’re over-produced now. Loved the feathers. I think they had to eliminate the feathers because they became too expensive.

Roy Nassau - He was a news anchor/reporter on Channel 6.

Sartorial overkill. One day I will research how all of this started and why this parade took this peculiar turn.
