wow! The Weatherford Quartet are totally new to me. Never heard of them until clicking on this album. Thank you Steve for sharing all you do. This album is so well done. They sang such beautiful and amazing arrangements and harmonies. The songwriting was unique, with a lot of songs of God's Presence in the Nature..... Plus, the recording and mixing! Absolutely stunning and enchanting warmth and clarity. I wish modern gospel quartets would go back to this kind of musical accompaniment and singing.
It was all done in one take with 4 microphones 2 for vocal 2 for instrumental with Chet Atkins on the guitar. My grandparents along with Glenn and Armond practiced eight hours a day for six months to create considered by most the best album in Southern Gospel music history. The Weatherfords are still touring 80 years strong.
I had heard of this album but had never “heard” it until I got married and my FIL had it. It was all and more that people had told me… wow! And to believe they recorded all of this without the modern tech…jaw-dropping to think about the precision and yet it has a wonderful warm vibe the whole way through.
I am reading the book written by the Cathedrals, and Glen Payne was on this recording. He said it was his first professional recording. They recorded it In Tennessee and later Elvis met up with him and told him how great this album was! He loved this record as well… (Glen was around Elvis off & on & wasn’t the greatest fan of his, and didn’t think he’ll last long in the music industry) 😂😂😂 I was so happy to listen to this album! Thank you! Also to hear his voice clearly he’s around the 25 minute mark 😊
It is considered by most to be the best album in gospel music history. Not a single fault. My grandparents worked 12 hours a day for 6 months preparing for the album. The Weatherfords are still Touring 80 years strong.
Could be the best RCA Victor album released by a Gospel Quartet? Do you have Mansion Over The Hilltop LP by the Statesmen Quartet? 1960 I believe. The release notes state the Anita Kerr singers accompanied them, my favourite back up vocalists. Would be nice to hear it!
When my 8 year old daughter was dying she begged 3to sing this album to her. This took my breath away.
I love this album it's hymns for our Lord Jesus Christ are interpreted with spirituality
This is so beautiful " What a precious friend is he". Armond was only 26 yrs old. here.
