  • Machig Labdron (Tib. མ་གཅིག་ལབ་སྒྲོན་, Wylie: ma gcig lab sgron) (1055-1149) - Tibetan yogini, founder of the Chod school - a practice of cutting off attachments based on the combination of dzogchen and shamanistic knowledge of dzogchen traditions. Machig Labdron is considered a dakini, an incarnation of Yeshe Tsogyal and is recognized as a deity, a manifestation of the Great Mother of Wisdom (Yum Chenmo) and Arya Tara, from whom she received teachings and initiations.
Machig Labdron left behind about 80 volumes of instructions on the practice of chod. A significant part of them did not reach the descendants.
The practice of Chod was born as a fusion of the Buddhist traditions of India and Tibet, as well as the influence of Bon, due to the cultural environment of Tibet. Researchers trace direct parallels between Chod and shamanism in Siberia and Central Asia. It is said that this is an incomparable practice that conquers all diseases and bestows enlightenment in this life.
The teachings of "Chod Mahamudra" and "Great cycle of scriptures Chod" are expounded by Machig Labdron, who lived in the XI - early. XII century and whose birth was predicted by the Buddha Shakyamuni. Machig read in the Prajnaparamita Sutras that all attachments are the actions of demons and this should be recognized. Thus Machig Labdron learned the profound method of cutting off the four demons. The teaching was born in Machig's mind and was based on her personal experience when she achieved liberation, relying on the Word of the Buddha of the second turning of the wheel of teaching.
Audio recording: Chod-Luizhin yuröol, practitioners sing the words of a special sadhana, accompanying themselves with the help of a large ritual drum - damaru and a bell. The special melodies of the Chod practice are passed on unchanged from generation to generation, from Teacher to student, and carry the energy of the blessing of all the Teachers of the line, starting from Machig Labdron herself.
