It doesn't matter what sort of career he had,Glen Freeborn kicked 3 goals in the 2nd quarter of an AFL Grand Final to bring us back into the game and if he hadn't done that,we may not have won the Centenary Premiership! That is a bloody good footballing feather in the cap to have,if you ask me. Having said that,i always knew Freeborn was a very skilful player and was obviously quite capable of what he did that day and i NEVER had any doubt we would win that game, even before No.17 came into the picture. The best football day i've ever had! Such a sensational day!
This is the North I knew growing up as a kid! I was 10 watching this Grand Final!!! The 1996 team was such a strong team! Such spirit! Shinboner Spirit! Carey, Micky Martyn, Archer, Bell, Rock, King, Schwass, Sholl, McKernan, Simpson, Crocker, Allison...just to name a few! I think we're getting there at the moment with Ziebell, Scotty T, Aaron Black, ect. I've already seen two premierships in my lifetime when I was 10, turning 11 (1996) and 13, turning 14 (1999). But I would love to see at least a few more in my life time. Get to it, North! I'm 2 years off 30 now!!
North's greatest game ever I reckon. I remember watching this, the team of the 90"s, Fairly gets the last goal, and even Mick Martin moves away from his full back position on the attack! 20 years later, may be North/Sydney GF again :)
my dad did the stats for north in this game, I was talking to him about it the other day and the memories he had from this game is unbelievable to listen to.
Started barracking for North in 1978 (aged 5). Malcolm Blight was my favourite player as a kid. Spent 19 years waiting for that day! All the pain of '78 GF and then the '79 (finished second and won the qualifying final but then lost the second semi and prelim), '80, '82, '83 (finished top but lost qualifying final and the prelim), '85, '87 (we had a very good team and only lost to premiers Carlton by 4 points in Round 22 at Waverley. Sydney was being beaten by Fitzroy all day at Princes Park. If we had held on and Fitzroy had won also we would have finished 3rd and played Hawthorn in the Qualifying Final but it wasn't to be. The next week we ran into a rampaging Melbourne in the Elimination Final at the MCG in front of the adoring members), '93 (Finished third - missed top spot by 1/2 game then had to play an elimination final against WC and lost), '94 (Ablett after the siren in the prelim) and '95 (Carlton unbeatable that year lost in the prelim) finals series washed away. A great moment and will remember it until I die!
was funny how Shannon grant ended up playing for us in the 99 GF. and Allison ended up at the Swans. Best part of all my best mate is a swans supporter....and im always throwin this game 96 in his face, plus oh fuck i got sooooo fkn blind drunk..WHAT A GREAT DAY THIS WAS, and a FANTASTIC MEMORY TO HAVE
+thesupplantor Im glad my nice words did disappear after seeing this :) we were important to you guys before last weekends game. And seriously how important are the swans in a RUGBY playin town

i was at this GF as a 14 or 15 year old and went to Arden St afterwards for the celebrations... bought a kangas guernsey and slapped on the #17!
How many of us re-watching the good ol days now... Hopefully we get back there one day... NM
I never get bored of watching this.
My favourite north Melbourne day ever. Could watch this all the time

The team is definitely getting stronger, Go North.

No team has a coach got as much from his players as pagan got from north team of champions that had a golden era
I love how the cup gold
Even in 96 Swans were getting out of jail cards from the AFL. Dunkly should never of played. Have a look at Hird's face when he gets his Brownlow.
North vs South
Finally won a grand final

You'll cry this Friday night. The swans will absolutely demolish you.
1996 is the only thing you'll be cheering about for years to come dude. Have fun reminiscing.
man, you can beat us in the next 1000 games. SO WHAT :D because until you have beaten us in a grand final, it means nothing
How was your Friday night?
come see me after next Saturday, and like i said it means nothin, we still a Grand Final over you guys :)
September 28 1996
Kangaroos 19 17 131
Sydney S 13 10 88
Prime Minister: John Howard 1996-2006
What on earth was Neil Kerley doing there?
Great day
GO ROOS!!!
My favourite of the 4 North premierships
Same because my best mate is a Swans supporter. And beating Collingwood would be 2nd, then beating the Hawks, and last of all Carlton
1977 was my fave because of beating pies in the replay
Although they only won
all 9son
Lost again swans 😄😄😄😄
I think it's adorable that North supporters think their club is actually important.
+thesupplantor Im glad my nice words did disappear after seeing this :) we were important to you guys before last weekends game. And seriously how important are the swans in a RUGBY playin town
+junglemattxxx dude this is a peaceful arguement
*****
North Melbourne are an irrelevant club. A minnow suburban team. A club clinging to life. How do you like that, jungle?
+junglemattxxx Yeah im a North supporter, incase you hadn't noticed with all the comments here...and if ya need more info. I started this whole thread
+thesupplantor he'll bite
