Many people including myself had wondered how the kubota bx23s as well as other BX and similarly sized subcompact tractors would handle the woodland mills WG24 stump grinder. I have to say I'm very happy with the purchase of it. While it does work even better on a larger more hp tractor it does a excellent job with only the 18 pto hp the 23s provides.

Thanks for the video. One thing to note if you watch woodland mills video they recommend you start with the grinder on the other side of the stump. In other words the stump would be next to the deflector plate. It causes less bounce.

I had not seen one of these until you demo'ed it on your dad's tractor. It seems like it works really well on your BX23. As it is on the quick hitch I was expecting it to move around a lot more. Your tractor did a fantastic job with that attachment and it is a really useful attachment to have. Thanks for showing it
Yeah, I've really been pretty happy with it so far. I think if I had a bunch of stumps to do I'd take it off the quick hitch but is just so convenient. Thanks for tuning in Joseph!

@@Tyler_Koehn I don’t know why but my 23s only pegs out at 4000rpm and won’t reach that. I haven’t tried pulling on the actual throttle cable to see if I can get more out of it. But thanks, I was just wondering.

With 55 prior comments before this one, maybe somebody mentioned this already, but in case not, I'll mention it. The owner's manual for this stump grinder (as well as my personal experience) states that if you start grinding stumps from the right side vs. how you started on the left side of the first stump in this video you'll get a lot less "hopping around" from the grinder. It states that the part of the cutting wheel that's designed to do the cutting work would be the "six o'clock to nine o'clock" part of the cutting wheel when looking at it from the back, so if you start on the right-hand side of the stump and work your way towards the left, it will go a lot smoother on the grinder as well as yourself.
The BX handled it well. You can get it into almost any back yard. Have a good weekend! See ya!

What up Tyler! That thing works good enough, yeh. About the "ankle breakers" you mentioned, me if I don't wanna take them out entirely, I dig around em with the hoe or hand shovel, and then cut them down in pieces with the harbor fright sawzall.

Absolutely! I no longer do it professionally but I used to with another machine. Actually have a video of it on the toro dingo i used to have grinding a few stumps. I used to charge by the stump as it would be hard to tell someone your hourly rate lol Thanks for stopping by!
How's she goin'? It seems to me that a sub-compact tractors can do a tremendous amount of work, but you have to go slow sometimes. It sure looked like your BX chewed up these stumps pretty easy and although it took some time it was a set up. Thanks for sharing and take care!!!
Hey Mike! It truly is amazing what these little tractors can do! The bx is my little swiss army knife, not really good at at anything but can defiantly do it! I'm quite pleased with the grinder. Thanks for taking the time to stop by!

It has preformed well for me thus far. I've only ground maybe 200 stumps with it thus far and only half of those being on the larger side. Yeah i know the feeling, but it sure is handy to have though! Thanks for tuning in Larry!

I have the Baumalight 1P24 (which is basically the same as the WG24) on a JD 3038E. It works great on my tractor but I was surprised how well your BX handled it. For anyone thinking about a stump grinder these are great entry level models. If I were doing it more than for just myself though I think I'd get an articulating unit versus one you had to turn around in the seat to watch.

To be honest I really don't remember. Maybe not at all since I used it with the quick hitch.

Been thinking of getting a stump grinder and a wood chipper for my BX. Your BX23s handled that stump grinder better than I thought it would. So my BX2680 should handle it and a 4" wood chipper just fine.
Yea the stmp grinder works well on it William. I have a gravity 4 inch chipper for it as well. Goes through a ton of shear pins. On little branches it does fine though
@@Tyler_Koehn I would think the wood chipper would have a slip clutch rather than shear pins, seems like a dumb design for something like that LOL. Course I'd just install a slip clutch, you can buy them and install them yourself and get rid of that shear pin mess. I think a 3 or 4 inch chipper would be great on my property with the trees I have. I have 3 stumps that need to be removed, so the stump grinder would be great but very expensive to just get rid of 3 stumps and never use it again LOL.
@@wildbill23c my take on the wood chipper is if you want wood chips then absolutely. If your looking to use it just to get rid of brush then a fire is way faster, easier and obviously free not to mention wear and tear on machine. I've found I hardly use mine at all. I actually let tree services dump at my property to get woodchips and just burn the brush from trees. My chipper just sits for the most part
@@Tyler_Koehn Most of the time burning is prohibited so there's a very small window of opportunity to burn brush where I'm at, its either too dry or raining, snowing, windy. Wood chipper for mulch would be great, but they're expensive. Kind of a toss up whether to get one or not. I might just get a small portable one for the occasional use, they're a lot cheaper, probably about 1/4 the cost of the one for the tractor LOL. Then again it wouldn't give me an excuse to use the tractor HAHA!!!
I'm surprised Woodland Mills doesn't have a swing model to compete against the Woods TSG50 grinder. Looks just as good as the Baumalight 1P24 that I've seen on other channels.
yeah not sure to be honest. I do think this grinder does a good job for homeowners, while I think it lacks if your trying to make money with it
New to this stuff so possibly stupid question: Did you have to use an extender for the PTO shaft? I saw I think on Messick's YT that with a 3PT QA sometimes it places the implement so far from the tractor that an extension is needed.
Never a stupid question. But no I did not for this. Actually still had to cut down the shaft to work even with the quick hitch. The bx's have a pretty short 3pt arms

With the Woodland Mills you are supposed to grind from Right to Left, but some reason everyone does it backwards.
yeah, I've found it does not work as well like that. I use it just like you would a traditional stump grinder. Hops around too much when doing it in reverse.
