  • If you are thinking about getting into RC Autogyro Flying, the following tips and guidance maybe of help to you.
This video is the last in the series about the enigmatic G2 V2 Autogyro from Durafly and my experiences in trying to master it.
Big thanks to so many of you offering really solid advice and feedback.
Apart from the obvious guidelines in prepping for any rc plane flight -
I think some of the best tips I got specifically applying to the autogyro are as follows -
    (1) Use Rudder predominantly to turn
    (2) Try to keep craft level EVEN if it means that you need to apply opposite aileron in your turns.
    (3) Correct C.of G. is critical which may require adding extra weight to the nose.
    (4) Apply 50 % throttle to spool up and get movement and then apply full throttle after craft starts moving just to get airborne.
    (5) Let the craft rise naturally rather than forcing high angle of attack.
    (6) Anticipate some torque roll and compensate.
    (7) Craft is most comfortable at about 50/60% throttle - NOT 100%
    (8) Maintaining orientation can become a problem very quickly, so consider applying Hi Viz paint or some other aid
    (9) Craft has a tall side profile which could lead to capsize while on the ground - Dont linger with your blades spinning (see my first flight attempt)
    (10) Some pilots are using a toothpick instead of a second screw on the blade plate to minimise damage if the blades hit the ground.
    (11) Do not try to fly in windy/breezy conditions. The craft generates alot of gyroscopic inertia and if it gets slammed off course from a heavy gust, it can be very difficult to regain control.
For now I think that I am done trying to fly this craft, because if you're not having fun there is little point and as you can see from my exhaustive(&expensive) attempts to succeed, it just doesnt seem to be working for me . But It is only fair to point out that there are very many happy G2 V2 pilots out there who are getting immense pleasure from their flying experiences, so who knows what side of the coin you are on. I hope the above tips will help you in taking your first steps into RC Autogyro Narnia

Great job... I'm going to try it for the 3rd time. 1st two attempts were just like yours...I haven't lost any video yet waiting on my 3rd attempt ...Thumbs-up for your video... Happy New Year. Have a great rest of your day 😁 Greetings from Douglas, Arizona 🌵🦠😷🇵🇷

Thank you for your kind words. This aircraft is really strange, some people find it easy to fly and then there’s us 😢😅. In my hands it just goes from me being in control to all of a sudden just losing it for unknown reasons, maybe pilot error, maybe some mechanical glitch
Best of luck with your next flight 👍

I just watched your vid. And felt a lot of empathy for you. I have had exactly the same problems as you had. Mine just wants to bank left all the time and fall out of the sky. There is nothing you can do to save it.
I have got a lot of experiance with another autogiro called Luobo autogiro from China.
It has an all moving head so the elevator is with the head movement. It does have a rudder which I use mostly with it.
I can chuck that around the sky no problem. If I get it wrong it's easy to correct and save. With the G2V2 it looks great but is a real handful. I have tried everything just using rudder. Mixing a little Aileron with rudder. But still a real hand full.
To me it seems tail heavy. I know on my AG1 I had alot of down elevator dialed in to fly it. And did fly that alot better than this one. One tip is to cover the blades with clear packing tape. That definately saves them.
I love autogiros. So interesting to fly.
May be I'll convert my G2V2 to an all moving head.
    Happy flying

Big thanks for taking the time to explain your experiences - it’s reassuring to here that there are easier gyros available- many thanks again

I give you points for not giving up! #3 adding weight, I didnt add any weight to mine, I flew it again yesterday and it was a great easy flight. So Im baffled on why you struggled with this thing. Great videos though!

Very Kind words from you - Thanks, i heard some people had to add nose weight and it did help, just not enough, but it looks like me and the V2 were not mean to be - haha

Well look on the bright side Dave! Think how you would have felt if you were sitting in the pilot's seat of 1 of those little rotary wing gliders they used to tow behind the U-boats out in the Atlantic to spot the convoys!? 😜😂😂
I remember seeing 1 up close in the Deutsches Museum in Munich in my travelling days. 😊

Haha me ole mate, great story - how old are you ? 150 😂. But you are right that I just got to look at the crash rather than be part of the crash 💥- happy new year buddy 🎉

on my G2 v1 I found I had to use opposite aileron or the autogyro would keep rolling into the bank. I have the new V2, but haven't taken it out of the box yet.

It requires lots of rudder and a little opposite aileron to turn

Does the rotor motor SWITCHED ON all the time during entire flight?

    • @rcpilots1291
      @rcpilots1291  5 місяців тому

No, I actually turn it off just before it takes flight, it’s one Less thing to have to remember

The lost of control has nothing to do with this plane. I am pretty sure it is a failure of your way to layout the antennas. My AutoGyro runs fine without problems. I had to free the main rotor wheel because the gearbox brakes the wheel. Your tips are very good.

That’s a really interesting possibility, around flight attempt 5 I swapped out the radio receiver but maybe the antenna is a problem, thanks
