I really like how NDI can easily transmit alpha channel, opens up a lot of possibilities for graphics.
Love this content. Can we please get an update for 2023 NDI capabilities??
Thank you so much, you covered NDI beautifully!!
Who disliked this video? I want names damn it! How can you dislike this very nice man making free videos for us? Really? Who else is making vids on NDI? I mean, come on
Not to mention a new dad!
Been using NDI for over a year now, its class
NDI has been the solution to a lot of my troubles when I was trying to get a LAN stream going. 4 guys, each having the NDI broadcaster sending their feed to a stream PC, with some audio routing so that only their game sounds were coming through! It worked mostly flawlessly but not everyone having the latest PCs ended up with us having a few issues that were largely just me not being knowledgeable enough to fix on the spot. Was amazing fun and we cant wait to do it again once we're all our of lockdown :D
We are using NDI for our small tv station we just bought. We are running it through Masterplay. It’s a resource hog but it is pretty awesome technology
i am using the birddog Mini, Studio and the p200 and its amazing! NDI is the future of live streaming! i think in the next years we will see more and more hardware
Great video, this is such a great example of the innovative solutions we hope to inspire with all our customers!
Heck yeah!
so what about 4K or maybe at least 1080p on android?
I literally just showed a friend of mine how to improve his streams with ndi. and it was simple enough using his laptop and gaming pc. he now swears by it for a flawless stream without compromising anything at all. He couldn't stream prior to ndi. i directed him to your videos too
I remember being able to stream video and audio over the network like 5 years ago, the only problem was the lag! I could definitely fix by delaying frames but the lag would drift over time so It was unuseable. I had to get a capture card. If they fixed the issue and implemented timecode then this is really good news.
awesome! NDI is AWESOME!!
what mic you use and pre if i may ask? nice sound
This NDI software is amazing, i play allot of VR but to stream at the same time just lags my VR game in pretty much all cases, but i have a second laptop that i always wanted to use to do the encoding for years i have never been able to do it untill now. Setting up NDI in obs is super easy now i can play high end VR send that to my laptop that runs obs and that does the encoding its amazing
Wow... Thank you for the superb explanation about NDI
For dual-pc setups, if you have a spare network port, you can throw an ethernet cable between them in a crossover connection for the NDI traffic.
Don't have spare ports? You can get a decent dual-port Intel 1 Gbps NIC for like $40 and a network cable for a few dollars more.
It seems they have discontinued the Android NDI app :(
Yup, I was actually looking for it a day ago and it's not available on the play store anymore :/
oh god! so many ideas keep popping in my head! hope devices become cheaper though for mass usage!
I recently learned about NDI at a theatre I'm doing an internship at as a fully trained technician that is employed at another theatre. In my theatre, we currently use an SDI network, which is fast and high quality, but if you want to view a feed, you need to connect an actual monitor. For capturing or streaming, we'd probably have to get dedicated hardware. At the theatre I'm currently an intern at, they do all this with NDI and I'm jealous. They can just look at and use a feed from any PC in the network, capture and more with just software and I'm jealous (and about to implement that at my theatre).
absolutely love your intro
Does anyone have a tutorial on how you can do what's being shown at 2:40?
I use NDI to connect Adobe Character Animator to my obs setup for live streams. SO i have a live animated motion captured pickle that talks with lip-sync and moves around on the stream. :D
NDI is fun to play with. Skype just have broken NDI out of local camera so only remote participants are shared. So a local Newtek screen capture to get the camera. NDI webcam to turn it into webcam for Skype and then OBS still has the NDI of the local as usual. Sounds confusing? 😄 only problem is higher cpu load for weak clients.
The problem in the context of a 2 PC stream (in my case) is that it still took 10-15% of the CPU on the gaming PC which made it a no go. I wanted seamless game experience. 🤓
if your game is taking 85% of your cpu then get a better cpu, and also restrict the other app to the higher cpu cores only,so leaving core zero to run on a lighter load.
googles not your friend but it will make a claim for others ip telling you how to write a .bat script to run any program on a set of given cores only
3:34 - Does the smartphone has to be on the same network as the NDI Mixer PC?
Yes
I swear you make videos just in time. Seriously, please focus more on ndi as it keeps updating thank you
I took a peek at their 4K offerings and it was eye-watering. Haha!
NIce informative video, by the way. I didn't know about NDI until today and it's a very interesting technology.
Hi Adam, great video! I was just wondering if there r any cheaper solutions (200-300$) to stream 1080p 60Hz / 4K 24Hz
So using this in tandem with LAN over IP will make for a better remote broadcasting.
@EposVox; Hi mate got some questions for you?
I'm already using NDI for Skype with my channel partner who's in the U.S.A with me in Australia and it works seamlessly.
The only problem we face is the Skype watermark on his NDI feed in OBS.
(Skype should really allow the watermark to be turned off.)
Do you know of a way around that at all?
Also, If we both had a bird-dog box at each end would we able to simply just IP him in on my end and me on his?
Or would only I need it as I'm the one running OBS? Or could he also have a "PC anywhere" kind of experience when we're recording episodes so he can access obs functionality on his end as we'd both have the box's?
Please feedback as I'd like to take this to the next level on my miniscule channel. I've just bought the Avermedia live gamer HD 2 and a Panasonic Lumix DC-FZ80 (will it be good enough as a budget buy?) with clean hdmi as I've been using my logitec 922 pro streamer Webcam for green screen and my Nikon L820 for full set videos until now.
As you can see I'll be tying it all up with the one camera now and also my action Cam for B-roll (4k 30) and point of view work with the capture card as well through a hdmi splitter so I can capture me, him and the product being reviewed etc at the same time by simply switching scenes in obs.
Would the Bird-dog box/s solve all of this for what we're doing now?
Sorry or ask so many questions but this seems like a total game changer!!
The solution I've come up with until now is what I said above. Or a second capture card for the action camera etc.
But now the Bird-dog box/s might solve all of it finally!
Please feedback, I'd really appreciate your advise.
Kind regards,
CTT
You can turn the Skype watermark off in the settings.
No, you can't send NDI over the internet lol
@@EposVox tried to but with Skype NDI it won't on his or my end. People online are saying the same thing, I was just hoping you had a work around is all. And yeah we use NDI on both my PC and his for Skype, but it's the desktop download version not windows native version we're using.
Just have a look at one of our videos briefly ( ua-cam.com/video/HADyfBXFUOY/v-deo.html ) and you'll see on his Cam the watermark we can't get rid off.
So the Bird dog boxes aren't a solution for our Issue then either?
Bummer. Guess I'll have to get the 2 to 1 hdmi splitter after all. It's only $20 on Amazon anyway.
www.amazon.com.au/dp/B077YDKLRZ/ref=cm_sw_r_apa_i_v-zREbP9D58DE
@@EposVox this is how we got NDI setup for his video feed using skype NDI in obs:
ua-cam.com/video/Jty07K3Xa2A/v-deo.html
That's also why I was asking about the bird dog box/s to avoid Skype all together with both of us having a box on each end through IP protocol etc.
So it's only designed for local network access is it; through a local router? Not compatible for over the net like Skype NDI?
I feel that's a big con in that respect for that hardware if that's the case.
Huge missed opportunity for the company by not eliminating Skype from the equation. And providing NDI for Skype instead!?
Not a good financial move although a very generous move for people on a budget like myself.
Not complaining at all, but perplexed to see big business being so nice for once 😂
And extremely impressed that UA-camrs on a budget are being considered for once! Really very happy about it!
I've used NDI for a little over a year for streaming with 2 PCs I love it
Do you use the BirdDog hardware or how does it work? It seems more expensive then normal capture card?
@@chotafallen8390 I've been using just my wired network in my home.
Any multicast which needs to be enabled on switch etc? Any qos needed. I am asking strictly asking from networking perspective
Rough timeline for HDMI 2.1 implementations?
I've been using NDI with my old Galaxy S7 as a webcam for Twitch for a couple weeks now, and I am definitely happy with the overall quality!
My only real issue with it is that there are times where it may go a bit out of sync (like, a quarter second to half second behind). It does almost always fix itself after a minute or two. However, I'm thinking the issue may be network related, rather than anything with app tech itself. If I move my router closer to my stream PC and the Phone, as opposed to them being on separate floors, I feel the lag will be fixed.
Maybe a stupid question, but running a podcast recently... Is Skype NDI functionality and Streamlabs OBS enough to have remote guests on the show and share your video and audio with them as well?
Is there an option for encryption? Could be useful for security cameras
The lack of HDX in the studio box screwed me because the software we were trying to use it with only did HDX.
NDI is awesome. I've been using it with vMix for some time now. Too bad it doesn't work well with Androind
Can I use a dslr to stream. In 1080p?
Can the obs NDI plugin utilize the NVENC (new) encoder yet? that could minimize impact on the gaming pc
...no? As explained, NDI is its own encoder and plugin. It's super lightweight, runs with less impact than nvenc, and can never use nvenc because that's not how it works
@@EposVox less impact than nvenc :O I better buy another computer right now!
Hello, I have a few questions. My PC, network and mobile device have been acting strange. For instance, called my internet company the other day as the network was acting up and shutting down. When I called, they said that it was only mine that was out and that it was connected to a radio? I am new to all of this.
Have you tested the Atomos Ninja V with Atomos Connect and NDI?
We've been using NDI for about 3 years in production and beta tested some of the original devices from birddog (and still do) but always found quality issues with RGB 4:4:4 and sound conversion issues going from one standard to the other or NDI not having a standard when it comes to line or mic out. This is something that bird dog still struggles with but Magewell Pro Converters handle with ease especially being the first to expose more of the SDK of NDI with allowing bandwidth utilization changes (changing it to 180 from 100 fixes the RGB 4:4:4 issue) and exposing the audio capture and send properties so you know what your getting avoiding distortion say from BMD devices and line out on consumer products or computers. But the biggest thing people need to understand about NDI is that your network and switches need to be managed and properly configured to get the most out of it. But boy does it make life easier when your setting up large stream productions. SDI is for the birds man. expensive and heavy. not cat6a though :) or fiber. Newtek needs to fix their beef with the open source community though to get it back into the ffmpeg! Good vid. About time lol jk
What mic setup are you using here? Please reply!!! Thank you!!!!!
I love using NDI on my E2.
Thanks for this vid, I was just wondering if you were still using NDI. But I have a question. What would give better results: Live Gamer Ultra/4K or NewTek NDI? From my experience, NDI visually doesn't look as good compared to those capture cards mentioned. Is there a "Secret Sauce" configuration that would help with a 2 PC stream setup? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I would love to ditch capture cards all together for display capture since I am able utilize NDI.
Which app did you use on your pixel?
Cool video.
0:11 that was an Elgato 4k60 S+? :o
:o
ndi is pretty handy the way I use it. Only have a Spark Pro but it really does help a ton. That, in conjunction with a video switcher, lets me put multiple cameras into vmix without using a bunch of different converters. Kiloview now has a battery powered wireless NDI converter which I plan on picking up soon.
Outside of your lan, check out SRT and how awesome that is.
and omg NDI built into the zcam would change my whole world for all 5 of these zcams i use.
Yeah srt would be nice, but for us it's quite expensive. Just shy about 2000€ for 10 srt streams and a big PC for about 7000€ and another 6000€ for a processing Software. Or Do you Know another way to get srt streams for cheap?
can you use bird dog to connect two tricasters with about 4 cameras on each system, and broadcast it as one?
i use NDI as a broadcast engineer and i cant count how many times it has saved my ass. but it can be picky sometimes.
How strictly do the BirdDog devices honor HDCP? I help organize a local tech conference and one of the common issues I face as the A/V guy for the team, are false-positive HDCP errors for presenters on a Mac.
been using NDi with the mobile app,
to have a webcam for a while now
delay isnt great, but honestly plenty good enough
for the occasional stream with a small facecam
i have a normal capture card.
But these days i'm using my 3 monitors to run games at ultrawide. And that my capture card cannot use.
But using the NDI plugin you can use with OBS studio, allows me to stream the full ultrawide experience if i want to.
Love NDI, and not sure i will ever buy a capture card again now i have these 2 solutions.
This is an amazing video. I used NDI a long time ago but it wasn't as good as it is now!!!
Also the android app for the NDI Camera is not there on the Play Store. Any help for that?
Thanks for making these amazing videos.
They seem to have removed it recently to re-make it. No idea when it's coming back :(
Is there a way to send from OBS in one place to another over the internet? My brother lives in the UK and I'm in Denmark. We want to make a stream together as if we are in the same house with capture from one to the other computer, so I can change between his gameplay and mine.
Not with OBS, but a cinch for vMix
can it be used with Dji mavic 2 pro drone HDMI without it displaying the app information like battery icon and so
That is a sick desktop background, anyone know where to get it?
TheRiceShogun
It’s too sick for you
How powerful of a computer do you need to stream using NDI sources?
Can I use my dslr? What else would I need. I use vmix as my live streaming app.
The worst thing the FFmpeg project ever did was strip support for NDI , thanks to conflicts of interest. NDI is the future.
Ised NDI when i got a 2nd pc as a gift, to try out 2 pc setup. Cap card is still superior. NDI has some compression artifacts i noticed, also having obs run on the game pc really kills off my fps in games. Happy i Switched over to cap card ( got a cheap second hand one). NDI is great though..if u don't want to invest money.
You were using NDI as a software and comparing it to a hardware based one such as a capture device. If you were to get a hardware based NDI dongle then they would be pretty spot on with each other if not better with zero artifacts up to 1000 frames per second on 4K footage and 2500 on HD footage. Even without a hardware based NDI solution from magewell or Birddog if your network is configured correctly (think latency more than throughput) you should have no issue with point to point up to 8K (talking full NDI not NDI|HX) but than i noticed OBS implementation has a lot to desire so perhaps the issue is there unless they fixed it. We went from a full SDI 3G production to NDI and not one of our techs could visually tell the difference of what was on SDI 3G and what wasn't. Basically your getting a visual lossless Prores quality stream at under 100Mb\sec. Plus some of the cheap game captures destroy the quality of your gaming feed with their compression algorithms so i would definitely revisit NDI and all the flexibility that comes with it.
Can this be used for mobile streaming?
I like NDI a lot but it's pretty expensive to get a decent setup :
Have you been successful in syncing a skype callers audio and video ? I cannot get them to line up even with the video delay async
I stream a lot of sports and conferences and I recently switched to NDI. I was using very long HDMI cables, I have several 100 foot HDMI cables. To be able to space my cameras apart to get the best coverage. However HDMI was problematic, often didn't work even testing setup before an event. NDI is rock steady, I have the Magewell Pro Coverts. It has made setup at events so much easier, I can get longer run Cat7 cables everything works on POE from my gigabit switch.
I installed NDI in both my gaming pc and streaming laptop and it broadcast the video but not the audio :(
Great video, excellent information... I feel like your vocal audio needs some high pass though. You are talking through my sub.
The Birddog Studio is indeed an amazing piece, but unfortunately it feels incomplete in terms of software development. When running ours for events, they have needed to be reset upto couple of times a day, disrupting both livestream and iMag. The intercom functionality has never worked properly. Birddog need a bigger dev team to torture test these things. However it's fair to say that when they are working right, they are amazing. The P200 camera is also excellent.
that world of warships wargaming code says it's invalid.
can i use this with my friend so we can stream on 1 channel ?
Iv'e been having issues streaming COD modern warfae to my avermedia on my stream pc. Am I doing something wrong? May game PC has 2 monitors and 1 monitor on my stream pc.
I may switch back to NDI myself
NDI is only really a thing for home users and small creative endeavours, actual broadcast facilities are using SMPTE 2110.
Hi, is it possible to use NDI without internet? I am trying to make kind of a portable solution but i can´t always have internet in every location. Thanks!
It only needs a local network
EposVox thank you very much for the quick reply.
Thanks for watching!
I wouldn’t say “revolutionized”. SDI is still king and probably will continue to be king for a while.
Agreed. And although NDI's flexibility destroys a SDI one dollar for dollar, NDI still has its issues with people not taking the time to design the infrastructure like they would with an SDI one. With that said it also isn't as cheap like people make it out to be. Especially if they already have all the SDI in place. Its not like a NDI converter is 50$ and you still need to run quality cable and run it on quality switches. But if done correctly i'll take a NDI network over a SDI one. But like i said if done correctly. Don't get me wrong we still carry a small SDi based workflow for backup but have yet to need it in our remote gigs.
but how do i get my twitch stream marker on my elgato stream deck to work on my stream pc when its hooked up to the gaming pc as its not recognizing that im live
You sign into twitch in the stream deck software. That has nothing to do with what pc you're on since it's a twitch website action lol
@@EposVox hmmm ok i just figured it was something to do with it being live on my stream pc as it says i have to be live to be able to mark the stream for like highlight purposes
it was working perfectly fine until i moved from a single pc setup to a dual pc using ndi
Update: Newtek is now a subsidiary of Vizrt (the company that is responsible for live broadcast graphics, media asset management, and 3D CGI).
thumbs up
Is it possible to use NDI from two different networks? NDI over the internet
yes. there are even services that specialize in this including bird dog which has their cloud service now. hit up ndi.tv for more info.
anyone found an ndi app that works on android? haven't seen anything since newtek pulled theirs from the app store.

I have been doing nothing but playing with NDI for WEEKS
Alot of major broadcast channels use 5g phones mounted on the camera to stream
didnt got notification
Hasn't gone live yet
@@EposVox oups i feel lucky and guilty now

I'm hoping there will be a FOSS alternative to NDI. Their lawsuit threats to independent Open Source developers and stealing of GNU Public License code from FFMPEG is not appreciated.
It's still better just using SDI (and way cheaper)
Hi Adam, could you please offer me some feedback of the VILTROX 85mm F1.8 Lens for Sony? Please let me know when could you do the UA-cam video of that? I sent you many many.....emails and didn't got any reply from you, please reply me asap, thanks a lot.
NDI is great for some multimedia stuff. but not for real broadcast video.
Still no DisplayPort.
The broadcast industry doesn't really care about displayport. and it's expensive to manufacture
@@EposVox SDI is also better for long runs and maybe more importantly, it has tips that screw in.

Pretty cool tech. Price is meh, but I can appreciate it from a distance.
Sorry, but I'd rather spend that $500 on resources that can encode the signal, rather than a middleman. The technology is easily far more impressive from a software standpoint, it's just that the hardware will have to come down in price to woo tech savvy consumers into buying.
I mean, the core ndi tech is free lol
Jaskolski Knoll
I like it better than capture cards because they limit your monitors to 60 fps.
many of the newer ones don't
