@Lord_Numpty She's not a summon, she's a construct. Made with good material too. Enchanted stone is harsh on blades and arrows. Still, he should've made a second before his stock got too low. Or devised another means of protecting his wealth, which may be what he did in the end, the story doesn't cover his next move. But I just wanted to inform that the solo protection act can be and is pulled off with regularity. In fact she's really most comparable to a boss you find at a treasure room. She wasn't supposed to defend the whole castle, just the vault.

Do you think enchanted marble grows on trees? No, it doesn't. It costs money, money which the gargoyle lost by failing to protect the wizards treasure. And he gave her extra chances hoping she'd do better because he probably liked her. But after a while he couldn't take the financial loss and had to let her go. But he was kind enough to repair her before leaving and giving her freedom to do whatever she wanted. The wizard was a kind man, but we only saw him at his most frustrated.

Yes, the wizard should have put thought into beefing up the security, but also "the adventurers happened to be highly skilled" only happens so many times, unless the same crew is coming back over and over again.

I had an idea: what if there was a kingdom of candles (those white ones used when the lights go out at home) and the happier the inhabitants are, the stronger the fire and... of course there would be a candle queen 😅
Leave the wizard alone, the gargoyle wanted to serve him and protect his stuff but it couldn't, and it kept costing him money and resources to repair for no gain. In the end he repaired her one last time and left her to her own devices. I think he would've used more enchanted marble on her to fully repair her, but he ran out. We only saw him at his most frustrated and angry moment, but even then he was still kind and fixed the gargoyle and didn't give her any cruel orders.
Why? The guy was angry at the time because his belongings had been stolen, sure, but he didn't mistreat her beyond shouting duri g that moment. And he even repaired her, multiple times, and did it one last time before letting her. He could no longer delegate the responsability of guarding one her or she would have died again, what else could he have done?
The wizard gave her so many chances and used the best resources he could to make and repair her, he did it until he literally only had candle wax left to repair her with.. and at that point he had to let her go, she would probably break forever if she kept guarding his stuff. Sure he was angry at probably losing a small fortune cause the gargoyle failed to do her job, but he only insulted her not attack, nor did he sell her off to recoup his loss.. all he did was repair her the best he could and let her go. Stop slandering the wizard.

And he tried to recomposite her again and again, but because he didn't have money anymore, couldn't perfect her or create new guards. Sure, he shouted her because he was angry, but anyone would be angry when their belongings were stolen.

Dude was too lazy to make another guardian, or at least make the original one bigger and tougher after the first time. He was ametuerish, and honestly deserved to have his stash stolen.
@chaotixthefox seeing as how even in Dark Souls 3 they go down pretty quickly to strike damage, I'd say they're not exactly indomitable. Just a bit of iron or steel plate would be enough to keep her from crumbling so easily. The wizard was just lazy and arrogant.

Clone spell almost all classes have something that stops them from dieing of old age by the time they get up to the higher levels. Not to mention that wizards get access to wish.
Now, that's a situation right there. On one hand, the wizard was a jerk to speak to her like that. On the other hand, she failed over and over again at the one job she was built for. I'm not saying either is in the right or wrong, just pointing it out.

That is the greatest act of mercy I can think of a wizard giving to a servant that failed to protect all that treasure. Well, the wizard is an idiot. Gargoyles are for spiritual beings, not physical ones. What he wanted was a Golem, a creature of regular clay, sometimes stone but often its clay, brought to life.
Golems should be cheaper and more resilient too. If made right they can be like kinda like clayface from batman, able to deform around blows, able to reconstitute themselves if blown apart, or able to split in numerous smaller entities. Given how abundant clay can be to source, you can literally collect it from near anywhere. The only thing would be enchanting it. I do wish to propose a solution to wax gargoyles possible future limb issues if they get up and moving again. Replace the limbs with clay or even mud all you need at that point is someone with nature magic to infuse it with magic.
There's also the classic army of living armor, weapons, tools, or objects. Even if you get to the treasure no problem now you have to deal with escaping while dealing with previously accessable hallways, doors, or passageways being suddenly barricaded and blocked. Only to be attacked by a carpenters hammer for trying to dismantle the barricade.
Wax and Stone may not mend, but perhaps she will with a brand new friend. Lovely dub!
