I guess I'll be 'that guy'. The symbol on the jerry can is called a Crux Terminatus. It likely isn't a real one (which all include a piece of the Emperor's Armour), but it is the same symbol. Awesome video by the way, it's super cool that you chose to do a different chapter to the first 18!
As much as I joke about it, I do appreciate people letting me know things like this. Thank you!
@@Miniac No problem man
That makes those way cooler now thank you.
The jerry can is a Terminator marine :D
@@lessteel9426 What's left of one after the last space hulk mission, before they pour him into a dreadnought...
I’m gonna miss this series, but I learned so much :)
Yeah so was anyone else like “yeah I could pull that off” and then he freehanded the hawk and I was like “well crap”
J you can still use a transfer and get good results

By the way, Liquitex's transparent Burnt Sienna ink is a reasonably good replacement for the old GW Chestnut ink.
I concur, I have it, and it's great
If you want the original paints, you should watch midwinter minis videos about the 2nd edition 40k starter set. The coat darms line of paints are actually the original GW paints rebranded, including the chestnut wash.
Thanks for the tip. I will definitely be checking that out.
@@squids24 thanks.
@@squids24 Just keep in mind that Coat d'Arms are the GW paints from the early-mid '90s. The inks that most people remember are from the GW range after that, from when they changed paint supplier in 1997-98, and they're apparently quite different to the CdA washes.
I've heard rumours that the 3rd edition-era inks were rebottled Winsor and Newton artist's inks, but I've never actually tested that myself.
Ackshually I think you’ll find that the decoration on the gas can is a Skull Cross Thingimawotsit, as seen in book 74 of the Hurdy Gurdy series
Ye but it akshually dbuted in book 29 when wozzisface slapped a skull on a cross! It's soopah subtle foreshadowin', y'know?
Now I want to see a space marine playing a hurdy hurdy at a renaissance fair.
When you started painting that cloth I looked down and realized I was doing the exact same thing on a Chaos Marine, and I learned that cloth technique from you so. Awesome. :D
Oh man, I love it when he puts his glasses upside down. I am rollin every time!
Damn that gass canister could wear terminator armour if it wanted and has a 5++ save
What is a 5++ save?
@@baronn1504 means an invunrable save.
Ah yes, the good old endless pot of Boltgun Metal. It's on my desk, next to my Chainmail and Mithril Silver.
Honestly these pots were just sprinkled with the Emperor's will: No matter what storage errors they're put through, they shall never dry nor empty. Such is the Emperor's will.
I love how you do your thumbnails, they look really eye catching and show off the amazing paintjob really well without revealing too much. Your presentation is incredible 👍
Love the way you clearly explain your thought process and execution of your work. Many thanks and keep up the good work.
"Yes, I still have a pot, and No, you can't have it." LOL
I have a pot of boltgun metal that is drier than Ghandi’s flip flop
Yesssss been painting Hawklords for a year now since getting back inyo the hobby after a shirt 26 year break, looking forward to seeing your take and techniques on them!
"People who paint space marines are scared of products that don't say GW on them, and we're breaking out Tamiya clears later so i don't want to freak anybody out"
x'D
That's legitimately hilarious stuff.
As a space marine player, I attest this to be accurate. But I've also been spreading my wings into other paints, slowly, but surely.
I use AK Interactive Streaking Grime on a lot of my marines. I like working with enamel paints.
This sounds like heresy!
"People who have that many corks laying around really love it when grape juice burns on the way down."
God how much paint water do I have to drink to be able to do this...
All of it
When you drink the paint you gain its power.
I've given up on painting this well. I paint as well as I can, and I'm ok with that.
Drink the paint, be the paint.
*Yes*
This is strange, lately I've been reading about space marines chapter that specialized in aerial combat Hawk Lords, and suddenly Hawk Lord painting tips appear in my notification
If this isn’t a message from the Emperor itself, I don’t know what is !
@@nicolasbourelier1017 I'm planning to saving so i can buy start collecting space marines (old one), a Stormraven, and pair of stormhawk/stormtalon. I want some sort of Aerial combat specialist space marines chapter using minimarines, and somewhat Hawk Lords is something that close to it.
Google will lead.....you where ever they feel necessary

I’m not even lying, same! These dudes looked dope and I’ve been researching them

Saw this mini in person at the source and have to say as good of a camera setup Scott has doesn’t do it justice. Love me some purple power armor 😍
Eavy metal Marines was the first series I saw when I got in to your channel and I still love it!!
What a wonderful job of painting. The Indomitus model is arguably one of the best GW has manufactured. Thanks for sharing. I find painting models intimidating. At some point, I should get over the fear, and just do it. I really want to do my own paint scheme to depict them as the lost 11th Legion.
I know you have done the Black Legion, and that's essentially black armor. But I'd love to see your take on a Raven Guard color scheme. Maybe even a comparison of what you would do as a tabletop ready paint scheme for an army versus the substantial edge highlighting eavy metal look. Great video, I always enjoy watching all the work you put in and there's just enough jokes to keep it fun. Please, never stop.
You're spot on with the translucent Tamiya paint... mostly used for navigation lights!
As a metal fan thats just getting back into the painting side of the hobby..... I love you....
Literally couldn't have timed this better! My kids are starting painting their Hawk Lords tomorrow morning!
Loved the slower pace, music and most importantly the painting minis ❤️
Love the purple with the gold. It really stood out.
As a fellow Minnesotan I enjoy seeing a vikings Space Marine. Great job as always!
Not gonna lie, I think it's the best of your 'eavies! Well done!
I can only say this video is very crispy, clean AF and tight.
Great Job dude!
As always funny informative video. Plus the kick ass intro and music has had me hooked for a long time. Great Mini, awesome paint job.
I love looking at the new ones and then going back to compare it to the first in the series. So much progress.
Sweet paint scheme! Model looks amazing
Fantastic work scott.
I'd love to see you do a custom gunpla build/paint.
The hawklord's were named after an English rock band called hawkwind or the hot wind spaceship. And a novel by Michael moorcock and the characters the band betrayed on stage. The hawklord's were the final version of hawkwind and only released one or two albums.
Hell yeah. Love this model, really great job. Hawk Lords were one of my first chapters.
Wow dude, the quality of your video has jumped massively! Technically for sure, but also content and editing. Well done!
Purple and gold go together so well.
I think the base is my favorite part of this mini honestly, and that's a tough call since I love me some purple models. The airstrip base is one of the most creative I've seen, the lights really bring it to the next level.
I love the 'Eavy Metal series!
I hope you don't retire it.
Amazing Hawk Lord paint job! Very inspiring, I may have a go at painting a Fire Hawk.
I don't want you hoping for something that isn't going to happen, so I'll let you know that I am going to retire it. That doesn't mean I won't paint a space marine ever again, and that my painting isn't going to be inspired partially by 'eavy metal (it's pretty much woven into the fabric of how I paint), but it's going to how I want to paint them which will likely differ from the team quite a bit.
But most importantly, don't forget, TooooOOOOOOO! PAINT!! THIN!!! LAYERS!!!!!!!!
BeeDadiddlydoddlydooo dududu dooo
Gonna be sad to see this series end, watching you paint these has been awesome!
Scott, you're a fantastic painter and teacher and I love your sense of humor. I don't think it was long ago when I last looked at your sub numbers and I think it was under 200k. You've not only met but exceeded that now! Congrats man.
Ahhh that sweet sweet bolt gun metal... course you GW for retiring it! My dwarves have this in the grudge book!
I’m painting up my first marines later today! Excited and nervous.
"People who play Space Marines are scared of products that don't say Games Workshop on them." I feel so called out. I will say I enjoyed branching out to using different products when I got more into the Hobby. They're a decent stepping stone into a much larger world. Experimenting with different paints is great and a lot of fun comes from it.
Great job, Scott! Looks terrific. I really like the effects on the sword.
The growl is sounding very improved. Great painting as always.
You should try Water Colors for recess painting, they can intentionally be thin to water consistency and they dry as a dust, excess can be removed with a water then Sealed with regular barnish.
Purple and yella, eh?
Sköl vikes, eh?
Ope! Ya can’t fool me, Scotty boy!
That chunky Marine boy is looking crisp as always mate!
Id love to see a video of your paint (like that old gw chestnunt ink) or painting tool treasures, where you show off the stars of your collection, kinda like in the pile of shame video!
I love watching a full start to finish paintjob from Scott, makes you feel like maybe it's within the grasp of plebs like me
Scott Thanks for this video and all your effort. Awesome work.
Love your videos Scott always look forward to a new release! Really stepping my painting game up thanks to yours truly and Jon!
Nice work man. First whole video of yours I’ve watched, and it is very inspirational for a novice painter like myself.
Love these videos, please never stop. The synthy music was really cool at the transition points, had 80s/Stranger Things vibes, and with the white background all I could think about was Look Around You. Pump it up!
Scott, id love to see what/how you have your paints organized and set on the shelf behind you. Is there a “step” so they are raised up in the back? Love your channel!!
There's this one method of painting yellow that I remember seeing that looked really nice. During the priming stage, you use pink for the shading. This will result in a more vibrant, almost sun-kissed kinda yellow!
Oh yay. Another paint by numbers space marine video. How exciting.
watching this on loop to say thanks, love this series please dont end it

@@Miniac :) ill still watch what ever you puit out haha, looking forward to scotty mettal paint series ;)
Those colors looks Terrific
So, I've been a fan of your channel of a while now. I've seen this video a few times already. I have been trying to pinpoint where I keep making mistakes and why I don't improve.
This video figured out my issue. I rely heavily on washing the entire model using multiple washes for specific colors.
Now, I have to tone down on the full wash and just get the colors on and layer up and highlight.
Thanks.
This is an amazing video! I’m returning to the hobby after 16 years away and have been planning to start with Hawk Lords. This has been really helpful thank you
Really pleased to see a return to this series. Would love to see you do a White Scar. 😊
I love there is people who still pump the jam, pump it up, pump it!
whenever i forget to pause your video before the scream it takes me a month or six before i watch your videos again. this time i didnt forget so i look forward to the next one.
I enjoy the heavy metal videos, I can see how you as an artist have grown. How you change your processes and approach and how that has evolved over the years
That Scheme was just perfect! And that Custom Base is THE BASE,awesome video!

It’s leviosaaaaaaa
Ah I just needed a good Emperor’s Children’s painting tutorial or how you call’em.. Hawklords.. ye Hawklords sure!
funny i haven't seen Scott or AFL Hawthorn player James Sicily in the same room.............
@@alexandereames6473 great game though. Good to sink carlton too
I appreciate that you think I have the muscles required to play professional australian football
Hmmm good observation...
Trent H me: well football sucks this week, at least I won’t be reminded of it while watching an American mini painter on UA-cam You: ...
Carn the poo and wee!
You are so much better now than just a year ago!
I think one reason the 'Eavy Metal style utilizes edge highlighting so much is that it shows off the sculpt, rather than being a showcase for the painters skills, and ultimately it's there to sell the models
Good to see Hawk Lords being represented, love their air-superiority and jump tactics. Also, it's a great color scheme when pulled together properly! Representing the 'lesser-known' chapters is great and I think the release of 9th and Indomitus with new Space Marine sculpts will bring out a lot of interest for folks building new armies and delving into those schemes.
Getting ready to paint a Hawk Lords Fleet for Battlefleet Gothic. This was absolutely perfect timing!
My chaos space marines have a similar dark purple/bright yellow color scheme so this was useful! Thanks for another great vid
I'm a huge fan of purple + yellow or purple + gold. Would not have thought the yellow and gold would look good being right next to each other, but they do.
Loved this series! Glad theres a new ep! You've really leveled up your tutorials too.
Unbelievable job man. Great work.
Nice choice! I do like a bit o' Hawk Lords aesthetic. Have been yearning for many years to have an army of them but wouldn't want to freehand the icons
Very cool painted! I think it would be fun to use all sorts of upgrades, I recently saw very cool ones on the site Liber Daemonica
Really beutiful paint job!
Awesome 🤘🏻 🤯
The patreons need to push for an ANGRY MARINE episode
Happy to see some more obscure chapters getting some love! Well done!
Holy shit. This might actually be my favourite space marine you've EVER done. I might have to repaint my old first attempt at painting space marines with this colour scheme, looks absolutely sick.
Slightly odd request but if you ever decide to sell this mini (as I know you dont do commissions anymore) I'll definitely consider it
Quick note: of your first marine was your first paint job, save it. If not, then have fun my dude! Just learn from Miniac's despair, and don't try to do an army of this.
@@MrSJPowell I've got a squad of them so I'd keep maybe one but its definitely a rough and ready paint job :P
I just bought my first set of space marines/necrons minis and really love your channel. I really need to learn alot about painting tho as my first result is.. well.. far from your skill and it kinda hurt my ego but I gotta say I love how calm and focus it make me feel doing it... I think I need to invest in a '"real''' paint set too. Mine seem to be too basic (my skill prolly dosent help tbh) when it come to do any constrast
Very nice! Great commentary, cool to get the thought process behind the tight, crisp paint splashing! . . . .love the Banfi cork...normally there is some nice wine beneath it rather than a space marine on top of it!
Man, that was a lot of work. Really good stuff!
6:52 As someone that started out painting Citadel models, I can absolutely confirm that is (still) true.
Great series and another great addition too it
The yellow looks so smooth on this guy.
This style was part of what drew me into the hobby and after I got my first primaris marines, I thought I might finally try and copy it on my Dark Angels Hellblasters. I think got one model shaded and partly highlighted before I decided that it was too much effort for two ten man squads. Now I just slap contrast on skeleton warriors and sandblast them with a drybrush , much easier :D
I use Liquitex all the time, because I already had some when I got into the hobby. It's great stuff, so don't be afraid to try it, even if you're a Citadel purist.
As a Wisconsinite, the vikings suck. But your painting has really progressed over the last couple of years. The mini is fantastic.
GO PACK GO!
Another sick video, man! Get keen every Friday for a miniac vid.
Please do a Ravenguard next. I would love to see your approach to total-black armour. Anyway, great job on the Hawk Lord!
You heard him this last episode is gonna be special! A whole Eavy Metal Army!
6:45 never laughed so hard at a mini painting video! You are so good!
Even though being colourblind makes it real hard to see the colours on this, I just know it looks amazing.
As a fellow colorblind painter, there are some tricks I've learned:
1. When planning schemes, pay attention to the brightness of the colors you're using. I'm red/green colorblind, so if I'm using a bright red in a scheme, I'll usually go for a darker green, or shift it a bit cooler by adding a touch of blue.
2. Get yourself a color wheel with a movable mask bit. If you can find one for the paint system you're invested in, even better. Being able to visually isolate your colors can help to differentiate them.
3. Swatch your paints over colors you're likely to basecoat or prime with. This can give you a decent reference for your colors, especially when planning a scheme. Further, take notes for your color mixes, processes, and schemes, especially if you need to repeat them on later projects. Color matching is a real bitch, sometimes.
4. Finally: paint test models, and ask for honest outside input, especially input of a critical nature, from others you trust. A big problem for people with our particular issue is hitting a plateau when working in a vacuum, because we lack, biologically, the capacity to see certain issues in our painting styles. Identifying the nuances of a paint job takes a bit of a trained eye, and having someone point out issues can make identifying those small details a lot easier. Think of it as a sort of guided practice for your eyes.
Colorblind painters can be exceptionally good at what we do, provided we are mindful of the little limitations that come with it, and learn to work around it.
"That guy" moment : THE IRON CROSS ON THE RIGHT SHOULDER ISN'T PERFEEEECT !
"This guy" response : yeah but who looks at that stupid cross when you can look at that crispy eagle on the other shoulderpad ?
I watched a video today about the Alice in Chains self-titled album (aka Tripod) and I remember that back in the day the cd came in a yellow cd case with a purple tray. Your marine reminds me of that cd case.
Dear Lawdy this is beautiful!
