I think what we misunderstand about Gally is that he isn't power hungry, he's just scared. The Maze is all he's known as long as he can remember and nothing bad ever happened in the Maze as long as they kept to the rules. Thomas breaking the rules and dismantling their home tends to make one a little antsy and, yes, it was progressive in these films but it's also cause of a lot of fear. He was just a kid and he just wanted to survive.
@@nenemon7376 after he got stung by a griever and realised Thomas was part of wcked, its implied that he somehow followed their path out and chased them
I love how Frypan knew what had gotten into Gally, so he tried to stop him and then went after him, like a true friend. I think that even tho Gally thought he had no friends, he wasn't lonely in the Glade.
agree with Gally images someone come up the box than everything change Ben and the leader alby is dead the maze door did not close at night everything Thomas does change things I be suspicious of him to
What was Gallys plan to live in the maze happily ever after? At some point everyone’s going to want to get the hell out of there. Very power hungry in the 1st movie
I mean I kind of agree with Gally. Some newbie shows up and starts breaking the rules, the rules that held everything together, and then gets away with it.
at least in the movies he's not an unreasonable psycho like in the books, I remember reading it thinking "What is WRONG with this guy?" sure he got stung in the books but yeah he was just off-the-rails whereas Will Poulter's portrayal actually shows that he has a conscience, you know? However stubborn he is he acts in what he figures is in the gladers' best interest, not purely vengeance against Thomas for stuff he only just remembers from getting stung.
Wasn't power hungry, it's the fear. He saw the situation from the other side, with everything suddenly happening as soon as Thomas arrived. Not only that, but he broke the rules and such, while the rules were always followed. You have to remember that they are all still young and in their teenage years. Just imagine being stuck in a box with no clue of how you got there, only the fact that you have to survive. It's scary as hell.
People in the comments being like "Gally was so power hungry in the 1st movie. Glad he improved." And all I see is a Gally, someone who is simply scared that having the rules broken will destroy the peace of his home. Poor baby is so misunderstood. He isn't even a mean character (aside from after he's stung), he's just a guy that shows affection through rough-and-tumble play.
I'm glad they didn't make Gally look the way he's described in the book. In the books he's described as super ugly, with a crooked nose and with teeth not even CLOSE to the color white. Here in the movies he's actually not that bad.
In the books, before Thomas came to the Glade, Gally was stung by a Griever and much like Ben, he had visions in which he saw Thomas helping WCKD. That's why he was weary of Thomas. (For those who wonder; Also in the books the Gladers recieved syringes of the serum Alby got in the movie along with the monthly supply. So those who got stung, recieved it and went through what was called "The Changing" - because you're not the same after that. Example: Gally and Ben).
After newt escapes he wore a cowboy outfit and got really good in chess and eventually became the ussr champion to play against rising kentucky state champion beth harmon

I’m kinda disappointed that the gathering decision scene looked like this, it’s like completely off from what the book described it to be. In the book, there’s shouting, opinions upon opinions, tension, and they were sitting on chairs in a circle with Thomas in the middle. Here, they’re standing silently with an opinion made within a minute
Someone's probably already said this, but the Glade's society wasn't meant to be a dictatorship -- yes, they want to keep their family alive, but you can't take away peoples' choices: only educate them and be upfront with consequences; were they planning on keeping Thomas chained and working in the kitchen with Fry for the rest of his life? Side note: It takes forever for the keepers to explain to the poor traumatized greenies all of the reasons for their rules. They want to keep people safe, but unfortunately the maze isn't about safety -- which is why Wicked starts escalating the experiment. What I love about these movies is it starts off with Lord of the Flies with the Maze being a common enemy so they avoid turning on one another, changes to a zombie survival movie then an escape / rescue with zombies in the third film. I'm impressed how well they did the books while also allowing the movies to stand on their own, and the acting is top notch.
Gally is actually right the whole time. The rules are the only thing that kept them together and assured them the peace they always had.
