  • A Podful of Saints: S5#26.
With Lee Wood, Jake Ellacott and David Tavener.
St Albans City continue to make this a bleak mid-winter for a succession of clubs with Farnborough and Hitchin Town being the latest victims of David Noble’s resurgent Saints.
City made amends for a defeat to Farnborough at Cherrywood Road earlier in the season with goals from Dom Hutchinson - his first for the club - and Mitchell Weiss securing three National League South points at the expense of Spencer Day’s Hampshire side on 6th January 2024. Victory lifts City to tenth in the table while Boro slip to 13th.
We took a break from league football to move through to the 3rd Round of the Herts Senior Cup on Tuesday (9th) with Shaun Jeffers marking not only his return to the side but also his 150th game for the club with a four-goal salvo against Mark Burke’s injury hit Hitchin side. Ibby Akanbi opened the scoring with his fifth goal in City’s colours while 19-year-old defender Kieran Gauthier notched his first for the club with a sumptuous overhead effort that caught Canaries ‘keeper and captain Charlie Horlock completely off guard.
Jeffers now has now scored 89 goals for St Albans including five hat-tricks.
The Saints are back chasing more league points on Saturday (13th January) with a trip to Eastbourne Borough who have a new manager in Adam Murray following the dismissal of one-time Saint Mark Beard. A few more miles will be clocked up on Tuesday (16th) when we visit Hampton & Richmond Borough.

4 good goals by Jeffers, but what about his running data?
Noble will probably start a headless chicken against Eastbourne, and leave Jeffers on the bench😂

I see stats saying Shaun Jeffers is tied in 11th place for most goals in the league this season with 7 goals. Clearly the biggest goal scorer for the club with Dylan Fage at 4.
...... So lets keep him on the bench and utilize him when the starting strikers struggle and the defense doesn't keep goals out?????
      Brilliant.
