5:50 You say this is "probably springtime". When using the street view feature in Google Maps, there is ALWAYS an image capture date (month/year) in small font in lower right hand screen. In this case, the capture date was July 2015. BTW, I love your videos! I used to work at Google, and wish they had produced material like this. However, your personality and presentation skills are perfect it. Thank you!
09:55 When you know you have reached the peak of being a loser then take the extra step and become a google maps local guide!
Aw . . . puppies!!! One of the most touching Google Maps things I did was when I looked up my mother's favourite auntie's address. She hadn't been there since the 1950's but we took a "walk" down the street. Mum loved to travel, so once she learned how to use it, she was off "visiting" her friends and favourite places around the world.
Once I did a street view of my former home in West Virginia. Apparently our 12 year old son was shooting baskets on the driveway when the Google car came by.
My biggest takeaway here was moving the little orange guy. Amazing how little we learn to utilize the technology we use every day. Thank you.
I call that "job security"
My mother's ancestors came to US from Newry, Ireland. I used this Google Map feature to explore the city. It was fantastic and no airline travel required!
Hi Steve, as a British primary school teacher, I am very grateful that you shared how to view museums using Street view. This is extremely useful. I know Google created it but I heard about it from you. You're my hero. Nick B
My favorite activity in google maps: When I read something interesting in world events, I go there in Maps and I peruse the local restaurant scene and check out the great food pictures people post. I tell friends that I was in Istanbul or Prague last night and they understand I meant google maps.
Thanks…I didn’t know you could explore inside building or in canals. What fun!
A few years ago my wife and I were talking about visiting the Galápagos Islands, Ecuador. So, I visited via Google maps; saw all kinds of cool looking creatures, including the Blue-footed booby. What a sight. Finally I was meandering around one of the islands and headed out to the beach. Before I knew it, I was snorkeling around underwater and seeing some of the most amazing sea-creatures I've ever seen. It was wonderful and a very pleasant experience.
5:50 You say this is "probably springtime". Nope. When using the street view feature in Google Maps, there is ALWAYS a date (month/year) for when the image was captured (small font in lower right hand screen). In this case, the capture date was July 2015.
As a matter of fact Kulusuk (Greenland) isn't that complicated to visit. You just have to travel to Iceland and there are planes flying from Reykjavík to Kulusuk International Airport quite regularly. :)
My much loved DC area has many museums one can explore here too, and also walk through the city itself!
I wanted to look at a property in my town, next to the local church, today.
Pegman took me inside the church! Being a Pugin building it was great to be able to wander round it.
I did not know you can get inside museums etc. GREAT video and keep'em coming! !! !!!
More to come!
YOU CAN GET INT SOME STORES AND SHOPS TOO.
Thank you very much. I appreciate your totally relaxed presentations.
Thanks, Dotto. Saying this in advance, as I haven’t actually watched it yet. Will do so tonight.
I have "visited" a lot of villages in Greenland. McMurdo Station, Antarctica and other fun places. I also like national borders and extreme points.
The elementary school I went to was torn down. The major street shows the new building but the side street view is much older and shows the old building. A weird experience by turning the corner.
Wow!!! Thank you. Who knew there’d be more after the last Google maps goodies you showed us?
Ooohhhh yes, pegman is simply the best, I love exploring with it. I loved visiting the pyramids in Egypt, and heading up into the Statue of Liberty. Such good fun. I used pegman in New Zealand to see what certain locations were like for me to visit, whether they would be worthwhile or not. I even found 2 amazing swinging bridges to visit, so they went on my list. I use pegman a lot to suss out lots of locations I am visiting. I did know about the spaceship over area 51 and the loch ness monster - tooooo cute.
I use satellite view a lot. I write about wines and wineries. To verify if a winery has vineyard on site, I look on the satellite view. The rows of wines are usually easy to spot. Although some older images are high altitude and blurry. Thanks for your Maps information. Between you and a friend, who is a level 8 guide, I plan on adding this to my work this summer. I was going to create a lot of UA-cam videos, especially local BBQ & Mexican food. My level 8 friend, has the most Google Map image. A view of Boulder Dam. He gets 1 million Google Maps
hits a week
What a delightful video! Thank you so much, Steve!
I am a school bus driver in Stockton Ca. I use Google Maps to layout all my routes, wouldn't leave home without it.
Hi Steve, awesome video. I used to watch you before on your TV show and lost contact, so glad I found you on YT and subscribed. I learned so much from this video, street view is amazing, didnt know about the drop pin feature and that they go inside some buildings, very cool. I have been to Alcatraz too so that was interesting. Keep up the great videos!
I love it when an old viewer reconnects! Glad you found us!
That's the hotel my wife took me to for my 60th @03:04. The Bauer Hotel, and at 03:33 the view from the terrace at breakfast across the Grand Canal to Santa Maria della Salute. Since the beginning of COVID we have been pretty much housebound, but have used maps to re-visit several of our old haunts, and many places that we hope to visist in future.
I've explored lots of places like that. A sweet feature Google should work on would be motion instead of clicking the fussy arrow
Learned something new again, love your dogs photo Thanks Steve
Steve, pretty cool features of Google Maps!! Amazing how easy it is to use and explore the world from anywhere!! You just have to love it!! Cheers!!
It really is!
I think your videos on Google products are very beneficial and helpful. About your one on Google Docs you had a feature on the speaking into it and it would type it out. My Android phone had that feature not too long ago but then I updated and it went away. I was wondering if I could get that back. Since I am not a very fast typer, especially on a phone, it was very helpful to me.
Thank you so much for sharing this helpful information about Google Maps, it has really changed the way I use it now👌
Fun. I love little Easter Eggs like this.
Great Vid! Exciting Coverage and Delightful Commentary
🇨🇦/🇺🇸... A few years ago I had a Microsoft Windows theme background image from some place in the UK. The photographer's name was on the background image and so I found him... saw several of his "gallery" images... found the village that was in the image and "drove" around that little village. I then noted some of the small businesses (stores... shops etc) and emailed them to say "hello", introducing myself from across the pond. It was great fun!
You don't have to drag peg man. It is easier if you just do a single left click on peg man right where he is. Then all the roads will light up and, stay lit up in blue as you click all around the world.
Great tip! Thanks.
As a Castilian hidalgo of 95 quarterings, I would have preferred to ride through the streets of Venice. But owing, I presume, to an unusually wet season, equestrian exercise is impractical! ... The Duke of Plaza Toro (Gilbert & Sullivan's The Gondoliers)
Really enjoy your videos, and your delight in the puppies just made my day!
Glad you like them!
Excellent video! Thank you so much!
Rad features; thank you!🤩👍🏾
Steve, great find!! Wish Id seem this years ago!! ( as you can see!) Have fun!
Loved the PegMan!!!
Sorry, but @ 1:56 you didn't land in a gondola but in a cargo boat. But, then again, whatever mode of transportation you use, Venice is a blast. Thanks for all the Google Map tips.
I used in my last trip to Hawaii, I took a paid photo tour and at every stop I saved the location so I would be able to revisit these same scenic places in the future.
I visited New York and Seattle with Google Maps some years ago. It was fun to go some place different since I've spent most of my life in Montreal. Thanks for sharing :-)
THAT was AWESOME! Thanks!
With the greatest respect my friend I don't think that the vessel used is a gondola. A gondola in Venice is usually an ornate, flat bottomed boat, propelled by a pole. They are used to carry tourists around the canals, and can be very expensive! I think the vessel used by Google Maps is a basic utility boat. Been to Venice several times and it's a magical place. Hope you don't mind the comment, I've just discovered your channel and I'm hooked! Thank you.
Thanks for the info
As an Italian that has visited Venice multiple times, I can confirm that is not a gondola but a simple utility boat. Gondolas are almost like you described them: ornate, slim, flat bottomed boars, propelled by a human with pole and traditionally black.
Great again, Steve!
Wow, the cells in Alcatraz are bigger than I might have expected.
I shall be using this feature more and more. I didn't know about it before.
Another cool feature is scanning business cards. When you scan the card into Apple Notes, you can tap on the information, like the phone number and it will make a call. Same goes for emailing. It is really slick.
I came across your channel some weeks ago and I'm really enjoying all the content! Already a fan!
Awesome, thank you!
I saw the other video on google maps and was surprised at how much I did not know about the capability of the maps. Then this one popped up on my subscribed list and I am amazed at learning more that google maps has to offer. Thanks for sharing and "thumbs up!"
Glad I could help!
Looking very snazzy!
6:36 cute puppies, I wonder though if the owners of this place would feel that their privacy has been invaded.
Great info, thank you!
Oh my!!! Interesting!
Thanks for the delightful content! My daily "Worlde" excursions are certainly going to be much more interesting and informative with this info!! 🤯
Have fun!
Love this!!
They used Hashima Island in the Bond film "Skyfall"k
Great video Steve. I use Pegman to tale a look at an area that I am going to so that I will know what it looks like before I get there. A good example is finding a specific store in a strip mall or a road intersection off of the main highway. I also fall down the rabbit hole of just sight seeing. which can eat up hours, but, I am 85 and have little else to do.
I have just become aware of your work and I can say that it is great. Thank you for putting so much effort into them.
g
Nice to know you visited Duxford when you came to UK. I live about 35 miles away. Great video
Lovely area!
@@dottotech Thanks.. All the best.
Thank you for sharing this post
Thanks for sharing this interesting info! I did not know you could explore museums like this!
Interesting tid-bit.... I noticed when you showed us Pitcairn Island, that between 11:07 - 11:14, the islands name changes from _Pitcairn_ to _Henderson_ ... Do you know why that is???
There are actually several islands that make up Pitcairn, Henderson is the main one.
@@Brian3989 - thanks... I was not aware of that 👍
😄Another great video.
Not a gondola, just a workboat, but interesting nevertheless
Thank you
This was fun. I have done this befor , but not in a while . But it is fun to look at differant places. I did not know you could go inside places. I looked at the West point Museum, for fu have been in there plenty of times. You can see the sub level, inside.
Thanks for the fun.
Sounds very cool, I will have to try that.
Venice: thats NOT Gondala!!
thats Venice's version of a local delivery truck!
Glaqd we got that straight
I contributed as a Guide for years. I spent a lot of time, answering questions and contributing reviews and photos. One day, Google removed me from the program, without explanation.
Great videos. They are very interesting ! Your videos are informative and interesting
Glad you think so!
Just stumbled across your channel, this is what makes the internet fun, great stuff sir - sub dropped.
Awesome, thank you!
This was a truly delightful video my friend. I think it is funny how much Google gets hated on, yet they do so much good and make things so much easier and better in life. My perfect piece of tech is Apple Hardware with Google Apps. That is how I do business. Hahaha. Hope all is well Steve.
Thanks so much. I agree. I am well thank you.
Great information and entertaining
Glad you think so!
What a delightful video, full of surprises aren't you.
love maps
Check out Whistler Blackcomb. You can see all the runs.
Very cool! I can finally survive a Black Diamond!
How often is Google maps street view or satellite view updated I recently looked up my house and it had roof damage that has since been repaired by someone before I moved in and that I've been here years ago so how often is Google maps street view or satellite view updated?
Chernobyl is worth a "visit" with the little man on GM
Cool :-)
I have found, quite by accident I assure you, local guides and street views of topless and nude beaches.
Can you suggest a way in maps to create a delivery route for any routine product with address list.
I am looking for a map that that tracks my runners on my race route
Google Maps and earth need to synchronize
I enjoy your video's, but what I don't know how to set up my apple I-phone or report is speed trap/police in front of ne or speed trap, would you please do video on that or guild me to a previous video where you or someone can show you how to set up?😀 thank you, mike
Something is wrong here ,,I cannot remember there being a beach on Pitcairn island
once you 've dropped peg man into a location, how do you undrop him?
Its great, true, but i find navigation is a little too jerky and sore on my eyes...if used too much!
Hi I'm 54 had my car stolen and happen to find it 6 months later so when I pulled the address up on google maps,it does not show my car in there driveway,so how do I show realtime now march 2022
You can't get realtime. you will see whatever Google has captures, on a specific date
What the hell is PWA? How do I prepare for this? Thank you.
Google is moving away from the "Google My Business" to Google Maps.... How about a video. Thanks... h
Sir i would like to as a help from you would you like to help me please
Thanks to making me to no about my Google account privacy, only one thing i want to no how comes people in your community have my
Google account and people that call me all the time ther numbers ? Please help me to solve this problem
A related app of interest is geoguessr…
It’s a game where they drop you to sub place on earth in Street view end it allows you to travel around any attempt of trying to figure out where on earth you are using all of the information you see from street view.
What type of trees surround you? What side of the road are the cars driving on? What language are the street signs printed in? What type of buildings can you find? Etc…
I have not played In a while, but I can spend a good deal of time on it, and have fun doing it, when I have the time.
But, like I said, this is similar to the activities you were showing on google maps.
I like that!
@@dottotech it’s kinda fun if you are good at determining location based on varying factors.. geology, economy, vegetation, language.. etc…
Would your credibility suffer if you posted images of a place without actually verifying whether those images were real or forgeries by spoofers ? - Please examine your item on Pitcairn island, as far as I can tell the images purporting to be from Pitcairn are actually of its neighbouring island Henderson island about 40 miles nor-northeast of Pitcairn. Pitcairn has no coral sand beaches.
I can't afford to actually travel so I virtually travel on Google Maps.
Google Maps was a great way to travel around the world during the pandemic lockdown. And, no masks required ✈️
Thank you
