Why is Mary so hated, like her actions are quite something that would be antagonist type vibes but she still is a character that just wish for freedom. Cut her some slack fans ;-;
Yes that is true. But let's look at the reasoning towards it. Mary objective and only Goal in life *(I mean only)* is to make it to the Realm of Reality (Ib's world). However, she needs to sacrifice someone (Garry or Ib) to actually leave. This puts her in a situation of she's trap without the goal she so desperately wants or to actually push forward. And she needs that *Sacrifice* dearly because if she leaves without either Garry or Ib dying, this leads to "A Painting's Demise" where Mary does exit but ultimately dies for not replacing someone. The only ending where she is truly free to see reality is *Together Forever* which is when Garry dies. It isn't that She wants to kill, it's that just has to, to actually leave and finally reach her goal of reaching reality. If a sacrifice wasn't needed then she would of dip similar to A Painting's Demise.
She does consist of the role *Antagonist* but it's revealed in other endings she is very lonely and wanted to leave her world to be with others. She quickly grows attached to those she spends time with, already seeming to view Ib as a friend, despite knowing her less than a day. Girl even got a book on "How to make a friend." Garry she shows dislike from him but it may just be jealousy itself since Ib trust Garry so much. In the endings of "A Painting's Demise" and "Welcome to the World of Guertena" she does ask for help from Garry and Ib at once. So yeah it's honestly jealousy. But in other scenarios it is shown that she hates him. It would appear that Mary does not hate Garry as a person, and even sees him as a potential friend, but her love of Ib and her desire for freedom forces her to view Garry as competition Let me stop here because I could honestly pass with a A or B in language with this long of a paragraph/s. I ain't saying that they should like her, I simply saying she doesn't deserve that much hate.
