    Question: do you know why sometimes Linux decides it will mount the ntfs drives as read only?

      Its because when you shutdown windows it leaves ntfs drives in a hot state so it can boot faster you can turn off fastboot on windows to fix this or run ntfsfix on linux to fix this on linux without rebooting

    Gnome disk utility in the aur has a nice gui that is easier to interact with I’ve been using that for awhile.

    you can also use autofs. it also works for mounting smb or nfs shares
