14 vws in I would say that buying oem parts for your VW makes a huge difference, unfortunately these cars get a bad wrap but if taken care of properly they can last a very long time good video 👍

I've had windshield wiper motor problems. The dealer wanted 1000 dollars to replace the motor and linkage. I did it myself for around 160 the price of the motor using the same linkage, took around an hour to complete.

Good info. Thanks. My $.02? I just bought a 2013 Jetta SE and I love it. It has 40k miles and I paid just a tad over $10k for it. All leather with the sunroof. I had two minor issues with it after purchase that I was NOT going to hassle the service department for because this isn't my first rodeo with a used car purchase and didn't want to derail my life over it. One, the remote's battery was dead. Now of course this is covered under the 3 year bumper to bumper warranty I bought and since it's a sealed remote I thought they should fix the issue. Well after a runaround I had to make an appointment with the service department who said their locksmith expert was only available one day a week and only till 3pm. Grrrrr. Well a simple UA-cam search and a $2 trip to Walmart solved my remote problem. Then there's the low tire pressure warning light. It wouldn't go out even after I made sure the pressure was up to specs. I did another UA-cam search and discovered all I needed to do was reset the sensor using the switch inside the glovebox. Whammo! All good. Now if I listened to the dealership they would have me take it to the service department for all these minor issues, when all it took was some research. For many it would cost them $$ when it isn't necessary.

You’re complaining because you didn’t know how to change a battery, read the owners book that shows how to reset the TPMS light?

just traded in my 14 jetta tdi 6 spd i’ve had enough . drivers leather seat ripped right down the stitching seam, i have to pull hard on window switches if i want my windows to go up , $600 starter went out ,both rear brake dust plates broke through at mounting bolts and last winter went to open passenger door and the cable inside broke so i had to rachet strap the door closed just so i could get home . Now the engine light just came on and don’t forget the $$$$ HPFP that if it goes out could be a very expensive repair

I'm interested in getting the 94' MK3 Jetta 1.8i for regular use as a first car. I have seen the problems with the newer versions but it seems like the old wheelers don't talk about it that much.

  • @justinb954

Oil changes are so important on the turbo charged VWs. On non aspirated you can go double the oil change you can on a turbo charged charged car and vw tells you so. The earlier MK4ish 1.8L engines were a nightmare for 'non attentive turbo drivers' throwing valves & rods due to oil starvation. it can be scary.

Hey man, I know it's been forever since the release of the video but I have 2 questions:
    1. What is the orange convertible car model you have on the left of you? I think I used to have one like that as a kid but do not remember what the model was...
    2. The list you mentioned in the beginning is not loading anymore, do you happen to have retained a file that you could send?
Thank you very much for the video

      @JustinPritchard  Рік тому

Yup it's been a little while!
Unfortunately the list is long gone, though it was basically the script for this video so maybe consider watching a second time.
If you Google my name and then the words used Volkswagen Jetta you'll find an article or two that should help if you are considering one.
I think the model you're mentioning is the Dodge Copperhead! Concept car. Very popular but never ultimately made it into production
      Cheers from Sudbury

Looking at a 2012 Jetta, has 180k miles on it, for 4k. Mostly freeway miles, and driven around Atlanta, GA. Dealer just put new radiator in, fluids, brakes, a bearings changed. I really like the car, but I'm afraid how long it will last past 200k. I dont think the owner kept up with maintenance well due to the radiator needing replaced. Is it worth the gamble?🤔

Really usefull vid bro, excellent tips.
Just wanted to tell you about my experience; i got a 2002 jetta, so maybe this is not too much related, but i did not test the wipers when i got it; i realized they were not working until it rained hahaha anyway, the thing is that the issue was the wiper relay, it had a broken electronic soldering point, which fortunatelly i could repair myself (i decided to repair it myself when i found out that the spare relay price was $45) hahaha
    Thank you for the vid.

I love VW for the upscale feel and styling as stated in this video however. If I didnt have an extended warranty I would be fucked. I bought my Jetta in 2015 off a certified pre-owned lease with 44k.
    - drivers door latch and cable replaced 3 times. All broke durinf winter.
    - all remaining 3 door latches seized during winter, replaced.
    - front left spring snapped dueing winter while I got into the car... Im 180lbs...
    - valve cover leaking 95k, replaced
    - throttle body 95k replaced
    - purge valve 95k replaced
All together over $5,000 worth of repairs.

There's a very serious problem in this country on Volkswagen and Honda and foreign cars they no longer have the parts people all over America have been waiting over a year to get parts for their car that is just sitting in the garage that they can't drive or use because no one is able to get parts for the car anymore this has been going on for a couple years now it's getting a little attention very little news on it !!!!! If you're thinking about buying a car you should do some research on the internet on how hard it is to get parts for that car listen to me carefully do not trust the dealer. My advice is to look at American cars where the parts are made in America. I had to fine out the hard way. My 6 year old Volkswagen Jetta I had to send to the junkyard because parts were not available !!!! Following this I did research to find out all of the above !!!
