    Athletic shoe salesperson here: you will be doing yourself a big favor by alternating two pairs of shoes for your runs. The EVA cushion in the midsole breaks down rapidly if you are on them frequently, by giving the shoes an extra day or two to rebound the foam , the shoe lasts longer. In other words, an average lifespan for running shoes is approximately 150 - 200 miles. Daily use reduces that mileage. Good luck!

    Trainwell was huge for me when I got finished with cancer treatment. I had no direction and was flailing in the dark. I'm on my third trainer and I really gel with him. Keep going, Bea, keep conquering the running. I'm in the same boat, always hated running, but it's a personal goal to learn to love it and a bucket list item to run a marathon!

      Hi @juliephillips6594 Julie, how far out are you from treatment? I’m 2 years in remission and my strength and stamina are still a struggle. I think I’m coming out of that “in the dark” stage and I’m trying to find how to get my strength back.

    • @juliephillips6594
      @juliephillips6594 Місяць тому +6

      @joy.275 I finished all treatments and surgeries in late 2021. I started trainwell (then copilot) in 2022. I had to start slow with no chest muscles left (had a bilateral mastectomy). It's been a long journey, and I've had to work through neuropathy, weight gain, and no muscles. The trainers have been very understanding. Good luck! And if you do start trainwell, let them know where you are coming from. Don't hold back. I also keep in the back of my mind, if I don't move or exercise, I have a increased chance of a reoccurrence.

    • @hollywebster6844

      Julie, they have trainers who have experience with people in recovery from medical issues? I've been released to begin "normal" exercise, as opposed to medically supervised, but I'm so weak and have very little stamina and my way back needs to be very slow and steady. Trainers sometimes want to push and don't understand that recovering bodies have different needs.

      @@juliephillips6594Congratulations on your progress. I am similar, surgery (full hysterectomy and tumor removal) and treatment late 2021. Finished treatments early 2022. Neuropathy has been in charge of my life since. Full damage in my feet and significant in my legs as well as some in my hands. I did 2 mos of physical therapy and that really helped. But now I need to either get back to rehab or start a new program. I never considered a trainer, thinking it would be way too intense. Thank you so much for sharing, it’s helped me see that maybe there’s an option for me too!

    • @juliephillips6594
      @juliephillips6594 Місяць тому +1

      @hollywebster6844 the trainers are all certified for training people. What I like is I was very up front about having to build my chest muscles back after having all of my muscles cut. I also have been having issues with my knee, so my trainer and I have figured out a plan that doesn't work my knees. They always ask for any feedback on any exercises. With Trainwell trainers, you are in the driver seat. It's not the trainers goals that they are trying to accomplish, but yours, if you do something that hurts or your not comfortable doing, you don't. And if you don't gel well with your trainer, you can swap. But, the one on one you have, tell them everything that is affecting you and they will tailor the plan to accommodate those issues.

    I ALWAYS hated exercise, I would have spurts of being really interested in something for a short period of time but then quit from lack of motivation/boredom - but this January I found reformer pilates and LOVED it. Its not always the most accessible form of exercise (I'm lucky as I live in a walkable city and there's a studio near my house) - but its the first time in my life where I've genuinely enjoyed working out and don't have to force myself to go. I'm going to hit 200 classes so far in 2024 today :)

    Bea, yay on the running. Check out Run Slow to Run Fast, lots of vids of that online as well. the fitter your heart and small muscles, tendons, feets etc get by small consistent slow (lower intensity) runs, you will find "almost by accident" you can run further at low intensity, and hence fitter and likelihood of fewer injuries. Also can read something about 80/20 method thinking, similar concept. And just maybe you inspired me to get out the door today, AND get a new pair of Glycerins. I am starting again after years of running, and 14 years of not running + 37lbs, so I'm restarting with you. p.s. You look happy!

    • @ildalina
      @ildalina Місяць тому +1

      Yes, this, yes! This is how I began loving running for the first time in my life at the age of 39! Listening to Dr. Peter Attia's podcast got me into doing regular lower-intensity cardio (zone 2) on the stationary bike, alongside restarting my resistance training in the beginning of the year (alternating days - hard weights-easy cardio- hard weights-easy cardio). I was coming out of a severe burnout and needed something to start injecting some energy and energy management into the system. I also needed to stay consistent and progress in my training without injuring myself. I transitioned into running in April largely on a whim, but still kept it super low intensity for the majority of the time. I wasn't even able to run in Zone 2 heart rate for the first weeks - I had to go with lengthy incline treadmill walks, building that aerobic base. My patience got rewarded, though, because eventually I could go for some speed without dying. Fast forward to mid-June and I managed to finish a 10K race in a bit over an hour, and most recently my local 5k parkrun in less than 30 minutes... I still keep the majority of my running really slow, while increasing the milage gradually. But, most importantly, I fully enjoy running now! Never in my life I thought I would see myself as a runner, but I do now!
      Search for Zone 2 Training, 80/20 training, MAF method (there's difference in the methodologies but the core ideas are the same). Floris Gierman's UA-cam channel is an excellent rabbit hole to dive in (don't start watching if you don't want to find yourself suddenly signing up for marathons in a surge of inspiration :p)

    Bea! I know this is kind of an armchair diagnosis, but speaking from experience, I'm encouraging--nay, begging-- you to see a physical therapist and get assessed for hypermobility. What you experience with your calves and the rotation of your feet--which I suspect is supination, or rotation your feet to the outside--is very common in people with hypermobility! Just looking at your new shoes, I can see that they have a low heel drop, which is recommended for people with hypermobile joints--makes sense why they came recommended. Sneakers with low heel drop, barefoot shoes, natural foot shape shoes, and flat shoes (no/low cushioning, such as converse and vans) are all ideal, because they increase stability.
    That being said, ! completely agree about the forward bend. We're about the same size and my knees hyper-extend in exactly the same way yours do. I can hinge forward to touch the ground with my hands but a bit of a belly in my lower abdomen and can't flatten my hands all the way. I used to be able to! I suspect that if I ever manage to lose my lower belly, I would be able to get my palms to the ground.

    B: been wondering for a looong time if you would be down to do a full video of your workout equipment? Why you bought them, what each one is used for, what you like /dislike about them, how you integrate them with the copilot/trainwell routines, which ones you use without the service, etc.? I want to invest in equipment other than my treadmill but I'm with a lot of other people.. too afraid to ask the gym people for help and I'd rather start off at home but no idea what different pieces are for! Your videos make it look so organized and I would be so scattered 😂

    I've been watching your old running challenge videos, and your running had definitely improved! There's a clear flight phase in your stride now, and the posture looks great! Also, kudos making videos. I started filming a workout challege just for myself to watch, but it's so much work getting footage, angles, editing, BUT it got me into a routine! Dunno if I'll ever finish editing the video, but I've definitely built the disciple now to watch my portions and exercise 5-6 days a week. Finding a workout that you enjoy is so important. I hate all exercise for the most part, but I've always loved dancing. I've gotten into belly dancing and as long as I mind my calories/portions, I can lose a pound a week just doing 30 min of that each day. Never bored, always finding new songs that work with the dance style, and one of the belly dancers on YT (Belly Dancer Diaries) is super helpful in perfecting technique. I'm drenched in sweat after a good dance 😆

One suggestion I may make (if you are open to it) is to get a more supportive bra. I struggled finding a good one, but when I did it made a huge difference with running! I would recommend the Shefit Ultimate Sports bra. It is a little pricey, but I've had mine for over 2 years and it is still in really good shape. The best feature is that is has velcro shoulder straps and band so if you need more room or less, you can just adjust it as you need. It is also moisture wicking and I haven't had an issue with sweat. LOL 🤪

    Hii Bea :) For the front fold stretch, also called Uttanasana, progression of the stretch is actually in your back/spine. This has nothing to do with having a belly, all you need to do is to focus on extending your back. And every time you breathe out when you’re already in the stretch position, try to bend deeper slowly as much as you can. Try to also relax and don’t round your shoulders to touch the floor.
    Not sure if it made sense, but you’ll probably find tonnes of progression videos online for it :) Good luck and you’re already doing so well. I love watching your videos ❤

    Awesome progress! A year and a half ago, I started a health journey and landed on Pilates and yoga as my “thing”. I still can’t believe I’m hearing myself say - ugh, I need a Pilates class tomorrow! But at 48, it helps my aches and pains SO much. ❤

    Big girl runner here. I run 4 or 5 days per week for about 30-40 minutes. For most of my runs, I have better success when I ramp up my run for 5-8 min, and then start the cycle over again...I never stop running but my speed is constantly changing. I feel it's more of a mental thing for me to keep running the entire time. For example, I will start the run at 5.0mph and increase by 0.1 mph every 30 seconds until I get to 5 or 10 minutes, then start the cycle over again. I will do this cycle for most of my runs but usually will also do more of a HIIT running workout for at least one of my cardio days with sprints.

    Thank you for posting. I had a really rough day today. I wanted to go for a walk after not engaging in any activity the week my kids were with me, so I was really looking forward to getting in some movement.
    I was met with a really weird feeling while walking, and couldn’t push thru my walk; and granted, I love my walks - I could walk for hours! But My heart rate was crazy high just ‘walking’ my left foot was tingling and my back hurt, so I simply started freaking out.
    Feeling defeated but safe, I came back home to my partner. HR has still been high all day, idk, but I’m glad I listened to my body and have a space around me where I feel safe but equally disappointed I couldn’t enjoy my movement for the day. Ugh.

    when i started running, at like 30 seconds my ankles and calves hurt, and my thighs were so weak. what really helped me was following the couch to 5k workout plan on youtube, and from there i slowly built up the stamina and strength to run 5ks daily. the hard truth is that its going to be really hard in the beginning, but be proud of every little kilometer further you go, because its progress.

    Spring and summer must be your seasons, Grace. You are glowing! You look great, and you look so strong. I completely understand the desire to want to be able to run. When I see someone running, I am a bit envious. But, btw, I never ever consider what they are wearing or what they look like, boob sweat or no boob sweat. If I ever saw someone with b.s., I would cheer them on in my heart because they are out there working hard on it!
