It does! I also use this technique; I came up with it independently because in my band I switch between pick, fingers and slap a lot, and I didn't have time to let go of the pick in time for slapping sometimes. So I combined them. Nice to see I'm not the only one who had this idea :)
Checkout polyphia. Their bassist usses this technique most of the time and his lines are incredibely tasteful. All the band members are insane at their respective instruments, they´re one of my favorite bands
@@JackieTheCatfox i think they they're not a band that actually evoques so much emotion. When hearing polyphia you're not gonna be on a rollercoaster of emotions. Ig it's just a band to vibe to, a band to be impressed with (more if u are a musician), a band that makes feel like a badass more than anything. So yeah, i can see why a lot of people might not like it, and that's totally fine :). I just think that making technical instrumental music digestible to people that may not have that much of a background in music is admirable to me. Idk i love them :)
I've been playing this song on repeat with my guitar (I think my neighbors want to kill me! LOL). I never tuned into the bass track that much, but now that you've clarified the notes, I can hear how much they add to the groove of this song. Of all the instruments, the bass really pulls this song forward and makes the "soul" dance -- it's doing a lot of the heavy lifting melody-wise. The guitar, on the other hand, mostly just marks the time (the complete opposite). This was fantastic. Never stop playing!
Yeah, really satisfying when the timing is perfect like this. I also recommend Amos Williams playthrough of "King" which is my go-to when I have that itch
I'm blown away that this is something I've never seen/thought of/anything. It works great. I don't ever play with a pick (basically because I can't figure out where I am if it's not fingers) but this is interesting for sure. And seeing something new these days is very rare.
Check out the band Polyphia. Their bass player has been using that style for quite a while. Stumbled onto this style about 6 months back. Not anything I'm gonna try to master, like you I'm all fingers, but quite a few modern pick players are using it.
Like how the pick does not include the slap "whack" sound keeping the low frequencies slightly cleaner while the pop pops out as usual. This is interesting. In this song, I am not sure if I can really hear the difference between this technique and a hands only slap technique involved keeping the thumb close to the strings and hitting with a vertical motion. I am sure there would be other songs where this technique can make a hell of a difference! Nice work!
That bass is freakin GORGEOUS
I came here to say the same thing! 👍
Moon bass
Indeed! Which model is it?

for a persian millionaire running a south florida night club in 1986, yes....

@@joaquinperoni3363 Yup! I personally don't like Polyphia at all, but I do recognize that they're outstanding musicians with amazing technical skills.
