The flower bouquets, oh my. I had a few dozen white roses for my wedding bouquet and it was heavy, ha ha.

Same! I had a couple of dozen white roses, fern, and baby's breath. The blooms, etc., made a circle nearly four inches in diameter. It was a gorgeous bouquet, though it never occurred to me it would so crazy heavy. 😂

Just think of all the new beginnings these pictures represent.
This slide show is particularly good. Keep it up!

I have a photo of my grandparents the day they married in 1920. It looks just like many of these photos!

Absolutely stunning, but can't you see the division between rich and poor?

No, not really. I see city and country churches or large and small venues. Weddings are not a good measure of one's finances: Today, people who have little to spend go into debt to put on big wedding shows. I know millionaires who are humbly attired and forgo the mansions and trappings of external wealth (expensive cars, clothing, lifestyle choices) to live in average circumstances. I am sure it may have been the same in the 1920s, a time that had a lot of economic uncertainty. 😊

Life has the rich and the poor and always will. Get over it.

Really a good showing! the pictures at 4:13, 5:13, 6:52, and at 9:13 were my favorites. This was a fun one to watch.

My grandparents got married in 1925. My grandma’s dress was white satin short sleeve with about 6” of lace below. It was about tea length. Wasn’t real elaborate. She had a cap style headpiece with a long veil. Huge bouquet. My grandma’s sisters were the same. It seemed like the theme were dresses that were shorter, long veils and huge bouquets. Not sure why the bouquets were so big. My bouquet was a quarter of that and heavy after awhile.

I've seen more smiles at a wake.

The cameras of the time required that the subject sit still for up to several minutes, which may account for the lack of (or forced looking) smiles.

The dresses are shapeless and the headdress are hideous. The flowers are beautiful!

The veils and hats of that era are not flattering to most women. I love cloche hats but they don't suit everyone.

The wide picture hats are fabulous. There are some lovely dresses, most of those "shapeless" silhouettes were heavily embellished witb satin or lace. 😂

Such lovely scenes, though a few of the brides look like men in drag. Was that a thing back then?

You are too used to looking at Hollywood cardboard cut-outs.

Wow what a comment, 1920s was a time of freedom for young ladies from the shackles of the long hair and long gowns. Hair was cut short in bobs and the dresses became more lightweight and shorter. What an amazing time to live in as a young lady, no more corsets, hot petticoats etc.
These women look nothing like men in drag, my hair has been short for 20 years and I do not look like a man🤣, my hair is alot shorter than theirs.

The beauty standards of the time were different than they are now. Limited media likely made women less affected and image conscious than they are today.
