Either you're an architect an architectural student or you did mad research for this. Either way a unique way to approach Minecraft and I really love all the information. More videos!
Or, there's such chance, she's a teacher.
Or just is interested in Gothic architecture lol
i don’t mean to hate but if i have to be honest, the scale is impressive, anyone who wants to can learn how to build like this
@@doursen nobody said they can't. Few Minecrafters would know all the technical terminology for the architecture though hm.
Beautifully executed tutorial. People will be using this for years to come. Everyone wants to build in the gothic style in Minecraft but everyone just ends up making rectangles.
I'm a bored architecture student. Looked up minecraft gothic architecture and I'm thankful I stumbled upon you! My university doesn't really delve deeper into traditional architecture like you are teaching in this video. So, thank you!
The first video in this series was so good I was like, "I'm not sure where we go from here." But oh my god was I wrong. Your builds are stunning and I cannot wait to finish the third video and then go make one of these in my survival world.
A note on the fog effect: where you have a colour change, you don't need an air gap, so you can get more fog into less space. That said, if you're trying for a gradient, so you need some places to have all the same colour, I guess consistency is preferable.
Well, Whaddya know? You're absolutely right! Well, that'll pare down some of my stained glass windows in the future haha. But yeah, if you need all the layers to be the same color, that doesn't work the best. But good to know!
I am so grateful for this video. It took my over a day to put together my stained glass project. Truth be told most of the videos about architecture in Minecraft, are simply primitive. You deserve way more attention. Your dedication, attention to details and sacrifice to these constructions are breathtaking.
I can say that as a painter, sculptor and the musician.
this is literally the best way to do windows i have ever seen by far
As a revvit qualified architect... I approve of your knowledge and explanations.
More over I love what you've achieved here
so Revvit from DinoTrux qualified another... interesting.
I welcome you as a brother in the DinoTrux family, partner.
I really like these tutorials about gothic architecture, using them to build my base. Any plans to cover non-religious gothic architecture?
From what I can tell, castles, universities, and town halls built with Gothic architecture use the same concepts as a cathedral. Vaulted ceilings, flying buttress, stained glass windows, etc. I can try looking up specific differences for you if you'd like, but I probably won't make a video on it until I've finished covering the cathedral.
@@shells124 no worries, thanks, I will continue to look at reference photos. Keep up the good work :)
you might be looking for dark souls type structures. if you’ve ever played demon souls, dark souls, elden ring etc, these buildings would be more what you are looking for. but again, they look kind of like this^^^^
I never thought I could be so entertained by a 30 minute long video about windows
Good job! Pretty informative, i really want to make one of these now.
This is such a great video! Love the gradient work and the tracery! I hope you can keep exploring real architecture with Minecraft videos!
This is amazing! Exactly what I was looking for as inspiration. Love how you colored the windows.
Came for the architecture, like for the Trogdor reference! 😸
that what i seraching for a long time, thank you, my cube princess
Wow fantastic detailed tutorial!! Thanks for sharing!
idk why i am watching this but this is so satysfacing (IDK HOW TO SPELL IT I'M BAD AT ENGLISH OKAY)
I was thinking for the Stonework, I'd probably use red nether brick, and some deep slate Walls, and Blackstone Stairs, going along with the traditional Vampire Gradient, of Red and Black. And the same with the Stained Glass Windows. I thought of doing the circular window in the Shape of an Egyptian Scarab Beetle. I'm not Very great at building statues, but I think a huge Goddess Statue (Whatever Goddess you are interested in building) in the middle of the floor in front of the big (Normally Circular) window. But this is just my idea to add to the interior decoration.
I love this so much! are there any examples of churches where the big window is used? I really want to use this tracery on a gothic church I'm building but I can't find anywhere to use this kind of big rainbow window
Alas, cathedrals and churches don't use big windows like this that cover an entire wall. I think real life physics would have made a big window like this impossible at the time of the gothic era. That shouldn't dissuade you from putting one in if you want to anyway. This is Minecraft after all. The place I would put these big windows is on the north or south entrance of the cathedral. Most traditional cathedrals are shaped like a cross and are oriented where the main entrance and bell towers (bottom of the cross) are on the western side of the building and the top of the cross is facing to the east. The smaller branches to either side of the cross face north and south and usually have smaller entrances there. But you could forgo the entrances and have giant windows there instead. Or, if you want the window to be centralized in your build, you can have the window on the eastern wall behind the apse. That area is usually rounded with an ambulatory, but some can be flat walls, especially if you don't want to deal with circles.
@@shells124 thank you so much! is there any chance we can have more of these cathedral tutorials?
Absolutely! I'm working on one talking about ceiling vaults at the moment.
Helpful, fun, and educational. Love it!
Love this! If I may, could I ask about the spires on cathedrals and what purpose they may serve? I've seen some minecrafters build them as towers with functional rooms.
Thanks for asking! I'll probably do a video on spires in the future. But to answer your question, spires are mostly used as decoration since they added height to the church and symbolized the saints aspiring towards the heavens and reaching up towards God. I think that any rooms attached to them were usually attics, but I'm honestly not sure and will have to research more on the subject. The only exception that I know of would be the bell towers which housed the bells. I know when I'm building in survival mode, I usually use the attic and space under the spires as my storage areas and functional sections of the base that don't really belong in the cathedral proper.
Thank you! Never knew learning architecture styles would be this much fun. Thanks for your gothic videos, they are really good!
Man tell me about thickness. I just finished doing the glass part of a massive build. It was 9 shulker boxes of glass per layer of glass. Can't tell you how happy I am to be done with that part. Honestly don't know what was worse. Doing the glass or doing the initial terraforming so I had a large enough flat place to build.
this is amazing! such a great job keep it up im learning so much from your videos! :D
yessss
make us a schem plzzzzz
love it
I was thinking about including the schematic, but there is a rather large gaping hole at the front. Should I post it as is? Or try to finish it as a stubby church?
@@shells124 As you want but I think its ok to post what is in the video rn and do another schem if you continue in an other video, so people can see in real what it look like
@@iHuntermc The schematic has been added to the video description!
ouh how pretty, my minecraft skin is of the new (formerly recent Zelda) Zelda skin from Breath of the wild so I love seeing people use other princess Zelda skins ALSO this build/window looks stunning and i want it in my world (next to my rainbow glass castle).
Also it's the white dress not the blue outfit you see in the game
wow this is amazing
Great Work Holy Moly!
beautiful..
love this!! ❤️
Can you please do another style of architecture too please?
I will. I'd like to finish talking about Gothic Architecture first though.
@@shells124 i can wait :) love your series!
A lesson to me, thx
This is beautiful, thank you so much!
this might be a stupid question, how do i get my stained glass to not show the lines from block to block?
That's not a stupid question. In vanilla Minecraft, you unfortunately can't. I have optifine downloaded that makes the glass textures connected.
@@shells124 Thank you so much
i wanted to showw you but we cant put pic link in youtube, I test it it looks very great thx Shell
Does UA-cam let you send Imgur links? I know Reddit does. If you want, you can send me the imgur link on my reddit account.

hi
Shells please come into my world and help me on my stained glass 😩
Haha I can't exactly do that for everyone you know. What exactly do you need help with?

Love the information provided for each architectural feature, im learning real life architecture while building in Minecraft. Please keep them videos coming, theirs a lot to talk about when it comes to cathedral building. Maybe make a video on gothic and romanesque cathedrals and the differences this two architectures have when it comes to building them in Minecraft. Love your work stay safe.
5:00 A cool thing regarding the gradients, which I learned in another video about beacons somewhere on YT: the gradients actually work like binary counters! If you want to create a gradient between two colours, with, let's say, 4 layers, you assign a binary 1 to one colour and a 0 to the other. Then, you start building 4-digit binary numbers with your colours of choice, starting with 0000 (4 blocks of the colour you assigned the 0 to), then 0001, 0010, 0011, 0100 etc., continuing the ascending binary pattern until you reach 1111. For 3 layers, you work with 3 digits, so you start at 000 and end at 111. With beacons, you don't have to put any air gaps between the layers, but for windows/wall transitions, you should use the gap to get the effect right.
That's really neat actually! And I appreciate the way you explained it so a visual learner like me could understand. :)
wow your window look extraordinary and your video was fun to watch and learn. Thank you so much for sharing your skills. I'll definitely try sneaking this into in to a few builds of my own.
Can't wait to use these lessons! Architecture was my favorite part of art history in college! Seriously well done can't wait to see more nifty tutorials!
I found a cool trick to hide some of the lighting in the frame if you're using darker blocks!! If you fill a cauldron with lava it emits the same amount of light as sea lanterns, but it still emits even if you block the top off! That way you can hide them pretty inconspicuously in the vertical sections of the frame while still getting the same amount of light :D
That's pretty neat! I'll have to remember that!
Awesome video, I really enjoyed learning about tracery's and how to build fog windows. Your video is very inspiring!
I am going to use this for evil and also many overly aesthetic rpg builds in multiplayer
This was hella informative and I enjoyed learning more in depth on these really cool features. Certainly will have to play around with what I've learned!
Could you do Egyptian architecture? That would be amazing. No one really does indepth Egyptian Minecraft stuff
This is amazing! This is the first video of yours that I watched and now I have to find a build in my world in which I can incorporate this design... Very inspiring!
The fact that I thought of Trogdor right when you started talking about s shapes, then you made that joke, makes this the best video. I am learning so much with this series
this video is a masterclass and it needs more recognition
I love your build here also ypu sound like doja cat+ mickey kouse in some sentences lol its funny not a bad thing if it sounds like that sorry but its cute
+ I love the way you approach information and I love the way you teach us
I love that you quoted strongbad! I learned a lot about architecture in this video. Thank you ! 🙏
😮😯😲!! Absolutely just blew me away. I dunno if I'll be building a cathedral anytime soon but your attention to & explanation of the finer details is very much appreciated. I can see using these techniques in other builds of smaller but similiar gothic style. You are The Master of Stained Glass in my book. ❤

wow really amazing and informative video! i cant wait to build something like this in my world
I've just found your videos and they're the most interesting and entertaining things I've watched in forever!! Usually I tend to skip through videos with a lot of talking because of a short attention span but I was completely fascinated the entire video! And your minecraft building skills are as incredible as your teaching skills!
haha to fix the glitch give your window a smooch, that was funny
Very Informative, I love gothic architecture
oh my god you are amazing this is great
You learn way more from these styles of tutorials
Thank you! This is exactly what I was looking for! :D
these look sick
you know all those intricate shaped but dont know how to make a roof???? just turn those pretty curved lines 90 degrees and duplicate it a couple times and you have half a roof!
Haha oh I know! I'm mostly just being silly. And lazy. :P
This is still the best building video series on YT.
Can you do some tutorials for Vampire Gothic builds? I really want to build a Cool Vampire Castle Map, and Craft an Epic Storyline to go with it, sort of like an Adventure Map.
I've pretty well laid out all the basic tools you would need to make any Gothic build, vampire castle or otherwise. You don't have to stick to the cathedral floor plan. And since Gothic vampire castles are a thing of fantasy, there is no set layout or design for them so you can build it however you want. All you need to do to make it Gothic is incorporate Gothic arches and vaults. Have fun building!
How do you get the borderless/seamless/connected glass within vanilla Minecraft? I downloaded the World linked to here but, not matter what I try, short of using Optifine I cannot get the seamless glass look. The borders take away from the effect. Super curious; using Java, 1.19.4
You said it yourself. Optifine. Yeah, I get it. I wish there was a way to get connected textures in vanilla. I've actually turned off optifine in future videos to better show what it looks like in pure vanilla. Sorry for the confusion.
Could you do a tutorial on how to make that building you were working in. It looks insane
If you watch my Gothic architecture series, that should tell you the basics of how to build the building. Glad you like it!
So cool
If you build a layerd window the colors have a binary gradient as mentioned in the comments already. Making the "frame" between the outside and middle glas with redstone lamps, could work nice. If it's too bright you can dimm them with trap doors. Bamboo and birch should work fine.
XD not really gothic but also interessting you could build one line of observers upwards, one observer facing the line of observers and the red dot facing a redstone lantern. Now you could hide a simple redstone clock underneath the pillar and voila you have a gothic-disco light show.
beautiful!
Wow.. i look at my house which was made from any and all blocks i had left over...the roof had holes in it..and then i look at this...no words...feel lucky i stumbled accross this..in this life ..would have missed it really
I love her voice, she just sounds like typical architecture student
Also helped me study for my Art History exams
Subscribed. This was beautiful. Thank you.
I cannot understand why I hadn't come across your channel before. Thank you for the great work!
13:06 You can use lamps. Also you can use glowing blocks to imulate sunlight
so cool! u r so underrated, u definitely deserve a lot of views and subscribers ❤
Straight up one of my favourite videos on UA-cam
Fantastic, thank you for the tutorial and inspiration!
dude you're so skilled wow 😵
Saw this post on reddit. Amazing!
You should really try these with rtx
Ah, if only my graphics card were that good haha.
@@shells124 Understandable, I can relate to that. If you ever manage to get your hands on a sufficient card, ray traced lighting will add a whole other dimension of creativity to these amazing builds
Great video! I wish more people could see this!
This video is amazing
Well this is beautiful, Thank you for the tutorial.
so informative I really love this
You know Grian definitely watched this video while making future base plans.
I can only hope haha.
This is amazing work!!!
Hello!
Insanely helpful guide, but could you show the ceiling in the new cathedral in more detail? I really liked it, but I can not repeat the entire structure from the video. Unfortunately, I do not use schematics and cannot see what you have shared. If you could share a piece of the map for a little while that would be great. In any case, thank you very much.
Sorry, I didn't talk about the ceiling since I used the same steps from my last video to make it. If it makes you feel any better, my next video will be all about vaults and ceilings. I will be releasing a world download of this creative world once I've made all the videos I want to make on cathedrals. I have at least two more videos I want to make on the subject. Thanks for bearing with me!
@@shells124 Okay, I'm looking forward to the new video. Thank you for being!
Lovely video! You are such a talent builder. I’m wondering if you are planning to make another video for the roof design
The roof or the vault? I have two videos out already talking about ceiling vaults. The roof itself is pretty boring. Not sure what to talk about there, really. Or are you referring to the flying buttresses?
Sorry. I'm asking because I genuinely want to make videos covering all you would need to know to design a cathedral. I just didn't do anything special for the actual roof of this build so I'm not sure what you're talking about.
@@shells124 Thanks for your so quick reply! The roof I was referring to is the roof itself on the outside. I have watched your series of videos talking about building the cathedral, and when I was trying to build I found that the roof is a little boring when looking downward (from outside).
@@THESNAKE_666 ah, yeah, some of the issue is that I'm not the best at building roofs. I do have something I need to explain that wasn't in my first video that I incorporated in the rest of my videos that will probably help though. There's a piece that goes between the lower arches and the upper stained glass windows called a triforium that is a gap bridger so you can have more of a peaked roof over the smaller arches instead of just a flat thing. The triforium looks like a bunch of small pillars or arches from the inside of the cathedral. Then the roof line goes from the top of your arch up to the top of the triforium. I can try to explain more in a future video. Hopefully that helps.
@@shells124Thanks so much!
i love this. Can you do a build tutorial on the building itself
I've been making tutorials on how to build all the individual parts of a Gothic cathedral so people can design and build their own cathedrals. Feel free to check out the videos I've made on the subject so far!
@@shells124 Your actually my new favorite account. Thank youuuu
This is the first time I heard of such a special matte treatment method. I never got the same information from other architects. At first, I just used Google to find the video of your spiral staircase for the purpose of making a Sagrada Familia (Barcelona's Natural Wonder) huge details, but I saw With your final forest cathedral, I thought I'd first try to build a gothic cathedral entirely by myself using the techniques I learned here. It's very impressive.
