I always enjoy your videos, and I love the way your tanks look. I'm just starting my nano tank and I am vigorously doing research on methods. This is a great tip to keep up the sleeve. I do want to mention one thing. I am a chef for 38 years. And I've seen this happen over and over. The dishwashers always used scrubbers and or brillo pads to wash the lexan tubs. (A clear plastic tub such as acrylic) and over time they would scratch the surface and become opaque. I saw you washing your top cap of the Skimmer with that scouring pad. Use a sponge! No scratches..lol reason I say this I've noticed you are very neat and clean. And this will bother you later on when it does scratch! Have a fantastic day. I hope my tank comes out as gorgeous as yours.
exact same thing with my GW7... i wish i knew this. it happened for the first few months everyday, now its just the first day i clean it then i put the lid back on properly and it works fine for the week.
If the water is to “clean” the surface tension will prohibit the foam from “popping”. Obviously this is often the case with new tanks, but can also happen if you do a very large water change. Oil ore Vaseline will break the surface tension as you show in your video. :)
What loser down voted this video. I swear sometimes - people just suck- thanks for the share I was literally dealing with this today. Now it’s fixed !!!
Totally doing a follow up to your video and testing if it works. I swear I'm not ripping you off. I just gotta make sure this works too. Btw it is looking like its working so far! Nice video!
I don't know too much about the vegetable oil but I do know my local fish store where I just purchased my aquarium from use vegetable oil to drill the aquarium
my bubble magus curve 5 is filling slowly.... lots of foam collecting on the lid where it should flow down... I have some skimmate im the cup... its just happening slowly... good or no good?
I think you need to lower the water level or pump speed and run a lot dryer. Pushing the boundary will lead to the skimmer dumping over in to the sump.
Another way to do the same thing is vaseline! Cleans off easily, as well. Worked really well for me when my skimmer went crazy after using chemiclean. Edit: LOL should’ve watched the whole video first. You mentioned it 🙃
Your tank is cycling. It's a new system thats going threw another cycle because you added livestock. I don't see why you say you don't know why it's going threw a another cycle when all new tanks go through multiple cycles before there good. And in my opinion any tank at any time could go threw a cycle of some kind for many reasons.
Just turn skimmer off for awhile let tank run without it. You have filter suck doing job, new 180 tank probably still cycling. I would never put any oil in my equipment or water. I try to keep my human oils off the tanks as much as possible
Thanks for the shout out. Delighted.

2 words I never thought I would hear together.
Its actually 4 words
Never knew this trick! Had to clean my cup full of foam every 2-3 days. Tried vegi oil, now it' works MUCH better! 👍👍👍
Wow what a great tip!! My nano skimmer fills with foam so quickly. Hope it works!
Rather interesting for sure. Will have to keep this in mind when I start a new build.
Awesome video ! thanks I was in the same situation, had to drain the collection cup every day because the amount of foam. Can’t wait to try it
This is a awesome idea Antonio. I having the same issue just finished the video ran to clean the cup and add oil..🤪

Awesome tip, I have the same issue with my skimmer. I'll try this!

I’ll definitely be doing this I have the same issue, cheers!

if you buy Royal Exclusive Skimmers, they advice you to grease the skimmer in the manual.
I was always wondering why my Tunez skimmer kept filling only half way and the rest of the foam spill out. Good info
Great little trick and thanks for sharing. Your skimmer looks pretty small for a 180 though...I have a Reef Octo 200 for mine.
Great idea! And thanks for the reccomendation on the cadlights skimmer for my wb 65.4
Thanks for the information 👍👍👍

Always when I watch this guy I get an akward feeling of ocd. Everything has to be so perfect.
I use the same oil for dishwashers when someone puts wrong detergent and it overfoams.
One of your best! Gotta love the colour of that fish poo!
Great tip, thanks!
I use the spray light 1 calorie a spray stuff .
It's even lighter than veg oil and u can just do one squirt on a tissue and a way u go
Thank you very much for the info.

What?
Silicone or waterproofing spray does a better job and doesn't breakdown over time or be consumed by bacteria.
Try Omega 3 Fish Oil 😀 if you get any in the tank it’ll be good for the fishes joints 🤣

Going to give this a try
Also when you’re done with the skimmer cup, you can make some fried chicken… LOL
sup! wanted to know which lights you're using for under the cabinet?
Cool tip
Tried it and it works!!!
Cool tip thanks
Nice gloves bro! 😂
It's the BP Deepwater Horizon Reefing Method! 😂 😉

@@cmjacques are you in Australia?
why is this an 8 minute video? literally a 2 min video would have been perfect
You can raise the skimmer up. The water level is too high. Problem solved bro.
😱😱😱

Homie just go buy some PE mysis. Take care of that shit real quick
Do you know why adding that food works? Frozen, or pellet?
@@vincentjames1995 frozen. It's super oily and greasy. It would probably accomplish the same job as the oil does inside the cup.
