Unlike many posts on this particular guitar the owners are not accomplished musicians, and you really don’t get to get the full capabilities of the instrument. This gentleman is a gifted well seasoned musician showing every aspect/nuance of this guitar. Well done Sir, best video I have seen on this guitar!
So, I was watching Rick Beato's live stream and he said we should check out your channel. I'm going to have to go back and thank Rick! You have some serious chops! That's one more subscriber for you! :)
Forget the review, that was the best jam with a FF338 I've heard! I got one of these in blueburst finish just two weeks ago, and I love it. I love your playing even more, oustanding! Oh yeah, SUBSCRIBED for sure!
I like your split screen playing, great stuff. I have 3 firefly 338. But one, a clear finish blond has a different neck. Its slightly wider and thicker. It's for sale. But I love the other two.
I have one of these in black and love it. I replaced the bridge do to rattle and am about to replace the pick ups. I have a 490 for the neck and 498 for the bridge. Love your playing on this video!!!!
Thanks bro! I also replaced the bridge and the pickups! The guitar kills now. Make sure if you replace all the electronics, that you get a set that fits through the F Hole. I got the CTS pots and had to pull mission imposible to insert it in the guitar hole.
I really enjoyed that intro song. Any chance you could do a breakdown on the rhythm parts of the different sections? Like a lot of us, I've been keeping an eye on Amazon for these to show back up, but haven't lucked into it being available yet. The hunt continues!
Great video and great playing. I have some of your presets and they are great. Always very helpful. I have a Tokai 335 copy which I love but this sounds like it is as comfortable and pleasant to play as the Tokai. Impressive. How do they do it for the money?
That was a great song and things are much different now but it's always good to wash hands! And everything else. Yeah you still have to change out most things on the guitar because the hardware and electronics are not good enough. Not that I'm complaining!
Hey man great video! Thanks for doing a play through - what are your ultimate thoughts on the guitar ? Will you keep for gigs or does it not inspire you ? I want to buy one but I’m wondering if it’s worth the price of adding extras ( pickups etc )
I have a set of Gibson Burstbuckers laying around, so my main reason for getting this was to put those on it. So far, I'm keeping it and I am expecting the Gibson pickups to make it even better. If you got $159 laying around, and maybe don't mind spending a little more bread to improve it, it will probably play as good as any 335 style under $1000 (or even some over that amount). However, if you wanna spend some more ($600-$700), that Sire Larry Carlton Signature 335 looks very promising!!
@@CamiloVelandia Hey dood! This is an old video, and the one where I found you.. (I was the guy who gave you the heads up for your channel that having any videos marked as kid friendly turns off the notification bell option for your whole channel) After two years, learning how to do really good setups and getting all my old guitars out of storage and bringing them all back to life, I am finding that there is a reason I needed to have the Bright (actually "bite") switch engaged on my Tech 21 Trademark 60 combo for this guitar to sound gorgeous.. because the pickups are way overwound (like 14k) and way dark and get wooly otherwise.. I thought that my Carvin DC145 was too bright and then I got the Strat back, and IT was too bright, and finished setting up my 1987 Ibanez 540 Radius, and IT sounded too bright. Yeah, the pickups in the FF338 I have, and even more so the FFLP I have are so dark that I can't use my pedalboard with both a Firefly and any of my other guitars. Time for a pair of Bootstrap pickups (or if anyone else knows of a USA hand made pickup manufacturer that is that ridiculously affordable and well built, let me know, cause his humbuckers have been sold out for months. :)
@@christopherjbutler hey Chris!! I pretty much replaced the pickups and the bridge right after this video. I replaced the pots with CTS pots, which was a pain in the a$$ because theyre somehow bigger than the ones in the cavity, so maybe keeping the pots in there and just changing the pickups and the wiring may be an easier idea. I also got a tune-o-matic roller bridge which works great. The intonation is pretty good, but could be better, so I may replace the tuners. I recently bought a Sire H7, and this one, with the upgrades actually puts up a great fight. I did compare it to a Gibson, and although soundwise it wasnt night and day, feel wise it definitely was!
@@CamiloVelandia Did you find the original pickups to be overwound and dark? Your run of FF338 is almost definitely a different one than mine, so it could be a different factory in China that did our respective ones. I also bought a Firefly FFLP (a 59 cherry burst Les Paul knockoff) from their direct website: guitars garden.. I lucked out, mine, after I cleaned the fretboard with steel wool and Murphy's, treated the board with some lemon oil, and polished the frets with 2000 grit to 12000 grit microfiber, and did a proper setup is PERFECT... It sings when not plugged in, and the action is low and buzz free with a decent medium jumbo fret size.. When PLUGGED IN however... not perfect. Aside from the wiring which is set up where both volume controls are completely independent, which is the ONLY perk of that scheme, It is NOT perfect. IT is Dark too I think. Either that or every one of my other guitars is too bright (I have a Carvin DC145 HSH, a Carvin DC127 one piece Koa neck thru HH, A 1990 american standard Strat loaded with EMG S pickups and a custom hard rock maple neck with quilted maple fingerboard by John Buscarino, an older chinese squier strat wtih a full depth body, loaded up with all the original electronics from the American Standard strat, and a 1990 Ibanez 540 Radius HSS (stacked humbuckers) and all of them sound great through my pedalboard Basically I have gain pedals and a compressor feeding into basically a Fender deluxe kind of pedal platform sound using a first run SansAmp pedal for that, it feeds the time based stereo effects pedals, and on to a pair of EV-12M loaded 1x12 Thiele ported cabs powered by 200 w of class D per side. All the other guitars sound killer and balanced through the rig. But both the Firefly guitars sound dead in comparison. Anyway, hope you are still doing well. I definitely am going to be keeping both Fireflies and having the electronics swapped out. I did the same thing as you on the FF338, roller bridge. Got Gotoh locking tuners for it too. The FFLP needed NOTHING hardware wise.
@@christopherjbutler I dont recall it being overly dark. I kinda dialed the amps to what sounded right, But perhaps if I would’ve compared it to a single coil guitar, it might’ve been dark. Have you messed with pick up height at all?
Haha yeah a buddy of mine got a Les Paul from Gibson as payment for doing some work for the Memphis shop, and he never played it. It was unplayable. It's a hit or miss with Gibsons sometimes
@@CamiloVelandia you need to buy Gibsons from reputable dealers, I got mine from Dave's Guitars in the USA and it's FANTASTIC. They even asked me what gauge of strings I wanted on the guitar....came with perfect setup, no issues.
Wow! Never mind the guitar - your playing is STELLAR, man. Love it!
Thank you bro!!!!!!!
Finally, someone who can actually play is demoing a guitar, taking an inexpensive guitar and proving that it's in the player's hands and minds.
This guy could make a plastic Hello Kitty guitar sound good. Also, thanks for doing the sweet playing demo first in the video before the talk.

Camilo...you can play any guitar in the world and make it sound awesome! You are a master guitar player.! All in your hands....grettings from Chile!!

I like the guitar and love the demo, but man you are an amazing player! You just added another fan to your list.
6:21 Peg! Haha great stuff Camilo!
This guy’s musicality is ridiculous! Great playing!!
Thanks so much!!!!!!
Finally I can see a great demo of that brand. Kinda same here about looking constantly on amazon for one of those.
Yeah! Apparently they had Les Pauls at one point. Haven't seen those. Pretty impressed with this one.
Loved all those influences of yours subtly shining through and segueing. Flawless execution.
Thank you so much!!

This is a little deceiving since you could make an old tennis racket sound good with your playing. ;) Going to keep an eye out for these.
