In this video, the instructor is working on teaching Malerie how to wait for a preferred item. The video is a demonstration of the correction procedure that can be used with the program that is included in the webinar. Notice how the instructor re-sets the trial and states "wait" again after Malerie calms down. This is an important step of the correction procedure in order to develop the behavior chain of waiting calmly when told "wait". If the instructor counted 3 seconds while Malerie was protesting and provided the item, this would reinforce protesting. If the instructor re-set the interval but didn't re-state the demand "wait" a chain may build where the child immediately is upset when told "wait" and then eventually calms down as opposed to the child calmly waiting when told "wait".
All programs should be overseen by a BCBA and individualized to each learner.
