Nice work, I love it! My neighbor found an Accent Evolution 10" tom that some college kids were throwing out. He gave it to me and I fixed it up and re-wrapped it to match a Ludwig Classic Birch kit. I sunk more into it than it was worth, but it was free to begin with it and was a good learning experience.
Zach Barocas is such a bada$$, great to hear someone mention him. I picked up an Accent CS Custom about a year ago with a bunch of other crap. Sold the other crap for $50 more than I paid for everything. Was going to sell the drums too, but they sound awesome. I think they're all birch shells and just have a great sound. Totally underrated/undervalued and horribly marketed by Ludwig in general.
Zach is awesome. I actually recorded his band Bells 5th anniversary show and it’s here on my channel ua-cam.com/video/p-MR4nZosgU/v-deo.htmlsi=alyA3sseHj-6tvA6. The full show is there in pieces .
My coworker gave me a 6 piece Ludwig Accent Custom Birch kit for free and it's really nice, it was blue stained but I wrapped it in blue aqua glitter. I was totally surprised at how good that kit sounded once I got it tuned up, it already had the exact heads I use which is Remo Emporer so i didn't have to buy Tom heads but I did buy bass drum because it had Aquarian super kick which i don't like. I found a new set of Pearl stock heads for $30 on Offer Up and they are like Remo Powerstroke which is what I use. Your kit sounds pretty good 👍
I use that exact snare drum to play out. I really like it, mine has a Remo ps3 coated batter, otherwise 100% stock. Also, I tune it very tight, and it sounds amazing. I like the color of yours too.
Closest I've tried to the Ludwig Accent is the Backbeat (Ludwig doesn't list this kit on their site). As far as I've found, the Backbeat is a rebranded Accent, sold exclusively at Guitar Center, and I was fortunate to grab a new one at $380 (normally goes for $500...along with the Breakbeats). From personal experience, the Backbeat is a good starter kit, just don't forget to grab better heads and cymbals (thinking of some Remo heads for Christmas, and I've been eyeing the Paiste PST 5 Rock pack for cymbals).
Yeah, those Backbeats look pretty decent. I think it's a slightly different kit though than the accents. The sizes and finishes are pretty different, as well s the badges. PST 5s sound great for the money. PST 7s and 8s are also really good.
@@demonicsweaters ...I wish Ludwig didn't have two kits with a similar naming theme (I'll admit it's kind of funny that Tama has 4 ((formerly 5)) kits with the Club-Jam branding). I mean, we have the Backbeat (the Accent rebrand from Guitar Center, complete with hardware and cymbals), and the Breakbeats (a 4 piece shell pack complete with Remo heads, and gig bags). Never tried the Breakbeats, but it looks like a decent deal.
@@ethanator6015 Yeah, but Breakbeats is a totally different kit. It's a compact setup that's very popular and is definitely made by Ludwig. Great little kit. The Backbeat I'm not even sure is the same as the Accent. The floor tom brackets look suspiciously similar to my PDP Encore (also a guitar center exclusive) I'm wondering if neither of those kits are actually made by PDP or Ludwig and are just licensed by GC and produced in the same factory by GC.
Hi Corey, I do still have it. I just got it a couple weeks ago. The little tom I'll probably use with a different set. I'll make a video about it at some point probably :). Thanks for watching and the comments.
Thats not an old cheap Ludwig accent kit. Its a quality, undersold, under valued under appreciated kit, that in 05,06,07 was like 4-500$(my friends brother had one) and these days the same type of set is twice as much, with less beef, thinner cheaper shells in most cases, but with more colors.maybe the wrap is applied nicer,or they charge the premium for a decent laquered outer ply
@@demonicsweaters Thanks for the reply! It took me a long time to warm up to them after always using a PS3/eq4 style head (meaning single ply with an internal edge ring). If you ever feel like experimenting, especially since you now have an emad to play with and don't have to buy a new one, here is what I found that works great for me and what has caused them to become my go-to bass drum head: 1. Tension the head slightly higher than you normally would. They use a different film for emads and it is infact softer so you can take it up an extra half turn on each lug and not lose playability. This also gives them a bit more tone. 2. Never use the bigger foam ring, only the smaller one. 3. Don't use any other muffling, pillows, tape, etc. 4. Port your reso. The above recipe works for any bass drum I've ever had and any style I've ever played. You can lay into it for a nice slappy punch or you can feather it for a soft boom. I totally understand these heads seem like a one trick pony but they can do a lot more than people give them credit for.
@@demonicsweatersOn a gretsch renown maple 22inch with no port, no foam ring and just a little PILLOW contacting both heads. Emads sound awesome! The tone is amazing!
You hate eMads??? Why? Curious, not knocking your opinion. My favorite kick head combo are the Attack Orbit set. I never need any muffling and they sound great. Have "Kick Port" installed from factory too. Nice haul. What, $130 all in? Not bad.
I just never liked the sound of them. Something about that foam muffle ring just sounds too generic to me. The head and how I tune my kick greatly depends on the size. 22" kicks I like a single ply non-muffled head with the old pillow inside and a ported resonant head. 18" and smaller I like an Evans Hydraulic on the batter, with no port on the resonant and small muffling inside.

You did a great job with this...restoration projects make for a good life story of the instrument. it puts "your own footprint" on the drums so to say
Thank you! yes, these kinds of kits are always my favorite kits

damn, those sound really good for the price!
maybe i should get one, i still see people selling these dirt cheap. 😁
Yeah, they pop up on sale all the time. Ludwig sold a ton of these things.

Great vid. Have you ever tried aluminum foil for pitting? I’ve had good results using aluminum foil with a little wd40.
#0 steel wool works great for me every time. I got all of that off on this kit very easily. Forgot to film it though, haha.
Yo!
We had an accent oak kit at our practice spot, I liked how punchy they sounded.
Great video, thank you!
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching!
Impressive!
That would be a great set for an E conversion too.
It would, but I feel like it would be a bit wasted that way. It sounds so good acoustically, I want to keep it that way.
Justin what a deal and it sounded great too!!👍😀
Thanks Zax!
Ludwig sounds really nice.👍
I’ve never saw a Ludwig kit with pearl mounts. Usually a single mount outta kick.
They've made many like this actually. Still do.
Quality video and restore. And also, I learned about WD40 for stickers. What is that piece called for mounting the toms on the bass drum?
Thanks James. Normally you'd call it 'mounting hardware'.
It’s called bass drum Tom holder.
Do you still own this Ludwig drumset (and can it use the 2 rack toms with the floor tom sometimes)

I agree they're far nicer than many of the entry level kits sold today. Just as good as many kits that cost 3x as much.
Just curious, what don't you like about the Evans emad?
it's so funny how so many people are commenting on that. I don't like them because they sound and feel like a wet turd.

Don’t like emads...wow best selling kick head in the world for a very good reason🤔
Yep, because whatever is popular is always best, right?
