    Nissan Ariya Long term report: www.electrifying.com/long-ter...
    After six months of driving our Nissan Ariya, it’s time for us to hand the keys back and say goodbye. Would we choose one over a Tesla Model Y?
    Tom has been mesmerised by the constantly same-shifting Aurora Green paint, but there are plenty of other reasons the Ariya is attractive.
    It’s also the e4ORCE model, which means more power and four wheel drive, which we put to the test on an indoor ski slope.
    Our car is the Evolve, which after the recent price cut of £3,750 costs £54,840. The Aurora Green paint we love so much is the only ‘free’ paint colour - all the others are a cost option. It also has the Sport Pack, which includes 20-inch alloys and a blue leather. In hindsight, the blue doesn’t really go with the exterior colour and the black or grey would have worked better.
    Our Ariya has the bigger 87kWh battery, which means a genuine 300 miles of range on most days. The downside is that it takes much longer to top up. Doing all the home charging at the cheap rate overnight on Octopus Go means it takes three nights to get near full again.
    We’d also say the Ariya has one of the best interiors of any electric car, with excellent quality and some lovely touches. It makes the efforts of Volkswagen, Tesla and even Audi look a bit downmarket. Even the carpets feel like a Bentley’s.
    Do you have an Ariya? Do you love it as much as we do? Let us know in the comments below.

    I’ve had my 87kWh Evolve since just after they came out and still think it’s great. Mine isn’t fussy about where I touch the wheel while on ProPilot though… just resting one finger at the bottom of the wheel keeps it happy.

    Great vid Tom ! FYI You can turn the easy entry option off where the seats go back on entry. . Also this battery doesnt apparenlty get harmed by charhing to 100% as it has cooling and a big buffer above the stated 87KWh. So you dont have to worry about limiting to 80% charge.

    For the record: We drive two Ariyas (one 2WD and one e-4orce) with well over 50000Km on the clock between the two of them (and they are absolutely awesome vehicles!). Total pigeon count so far: 0. ;)

    I have an Ariya. It’s the same colour as yours (and I agree with what you say about it - excellent for the “free” colour). My car is the Advance trim with the smaller battery so it’s not quite as plush and doesn’t go quite as far but it’s still a nice vehicle and has plenty going for it.
    A couple of observations. There’s a setting where can stop the car shouting at you if you don’t have your hands at ten to two. I haven’t tried the setting yet as I’ve only recently found it but might be worth a go to see if it solves that particular issue for you.
    My other observation is about ePedal. Unlike the Leaf, ePedal in the Ariya doesn’t go to a complete stop - the car still creeps forward until you use the break. I wasn’t too worried about this until I drove a Leaf for the first time while my Ariya was in for its first annual service in December and I really like the way ePedal works in that car compared to the Ariya.
    I completely agree about the lack of limiting to 80% battery charge being an oversight. I can’t understand it and hope Nissan will add that option in a software update.
    Enjoyed the video!

      @@scottcameron8936 I don’t think you’re correct about that. A lithium ion battery is a lithium ion battery irrespective of whose name is on the box. Nissan haven’t magically altered the properties of the technology so the 80% guidance still applies to the Ariya making the lack of a setting to manage that inexplicable. They’re not the only car maker to leave that out of their software.

      This might explain Nissan reasoning on charging limits I found the following info
      How to limit charging to 80% on a later model year (2014+) Nissan Leaf
      Posted on November 23, 2022
      Early (2011-2013) United States Nissan Leaf's had a "limit charging to 80%" feature in the dash. Nissan removed this feature from US cars after the EPA ruled that if the feature
      remained, they had to report a lower battery range because on average the car would not be fully charged when it left. [This ruling was incorrect in my opinion...but Nissan removed the feature so that they could advertise the EPA range based upon a 100% charge of the battery.]
      1, and many other people, still like to limit charging to only 80% of the battery total capacity in an effort to extend the life of our EV batteries. [This extra effort may or may not be worth the trouble, and many people advise to just charge to 100% and not worry about your battery health, especially for 2016+ vehicles which have a longer battery warranty. But I like to limit charging of Lithium lon batteries to 80% if I don't need the extra range.]
      If you wanted to only charge your Nissan Leaf to 80% (unless you need extra range for longer trips) on a regular basis, how can you do it on later model year vehicles?
      There are three options that I know of:
      1. The only way to get a similar effect (keeping the car below
      80% SOC most of the time) using only inbui

    Thanks for a great review.
    I nearly bought one last year and only cancelled the order placed the previous August when I was told it “might” be delivered in June 23. By then I was also a bit worried about not having a petrol hybrid option here in Worcestershire where working public charging is sparse. I agree it is a lot of car for the money and about as much luxury as I am likely to need. I much prefer the UI and UX to a Tesla.

    As a Aryia e-4orce driver I agree with most of your review, except that e-pedal doesn't take you to a complete stop, the preconditioning sets off the alarm nearly everytime in the Winter and randomly in the Summer.
    I was actually surprised by how well the torque vectoring levels out the lean when in sports mode and I love the rear bias when you decide to "make progress" out of a corner.
    I am yet to encounter the dripping tailgate or randy pigeons, just bugs.....lots and lots of squashed bugs!

      The price literally is the price you pay for a quality car. The Ariya offers so much more than any Tesla offers you, and it's above the pack of ID4 etc. as well when it comes to refinement. Compared to other ICE cars on a comparable quality level, it really isn't expensive at all.

      On E-pedal behaviour I have recently changed from BMW i3 to Ariya. With the i3 I can bring the car to a complete stop just using the accelerator pedal but as we know the Ariya E-pedal mode almost stops the car but you have to use the brake pedal to stop completely. In retrospect I like this option - 1) allows creeping when close manoeuvring is needed and 2) get auto hold on brake after pressing the brake pedal. Not an issue with the Ariya behaviour IMHO.

    I owned a Tesla Model X before driving an e-4orce. The reliability of Ariya is much much better than a Model X. But the power of Model X gave me exciting feeling when I needed to overtake. I was a bit disappointed on the power of the dual motor Ariya but fully agreed with the review that it’s very easy and cozy in driving.
    Btw, the app control and the drivers convenient features of Tesla is much more advanced. Many times I didn’t switch off the power of Ariya and got out the car which I hadn’t needed to do in the Model X for 6 years. Get on and shift to D and drive, shift to P and get off are so convenient. I wish we can ask for the features by a software update in Ariya.

    Our 2020 Nissan Leaf does not obviously have the ability to charge to just 80% either. I saw a podcast at some stage that intimated that our 62 kw battery will only? actually charge and give a range of 57 kw in order to 'save' battery from degradation. Consequently we just charge to 100% if doing a longer trip, and don't worry too much.

      High miles = Tesla Model Y, simply for the ease of access to the Supercharger network.
      Local driving = Ariya or Enyaq for their considerably more forgiving ride comfort over potholed streets.
      And, if you'd only be going for the single-motor versions of each, then the Enyaq and Model Y are both rear-wheel-drive, which is fantastic for getting the power down coming out of junctions etc

There is a steering wheel replacement campaign in Poland right now, because there was a series of steering wheels with a broken system. Report it to the service, a correct steering wheel allows you to put your hands anywhere and your hands are detected.

    • @NameNaameNameeNaamee
      @NameNaameNameeNaamee 3 місяці тому +1

      I think the idea is to keep it simple. The way the battery is set up, there really is no reason to stop your charge at 80%. The only situation I found myself missing said option was in the mountains, where I was on vacation, living at 1400 meters, and regardless what direction I would drive to, it would always be downhill for hundrets of meters above sea level. Charging to over 80% literally made no sense there. In day to day use however, I really do enjoy the fact that I can use the pack to it's full extent. It also makes you a lot quicker on long trips, since you don't have to charge as often. That way, Ariya actually beats an Ioniq 5. Teslas don't have a chance anyway.

    [/CAPS LOCK OFF] It is reasonably efficient, but not as efficient as a Tesla Model Y. In fact, the Model Y goes further on a smaller battery.
    The Model Y charges twice as fast as an Ariya on a rapid charger.
    I'll agree that an Ariya looks more "premium", but the previous two point are short comings do not want to live with.
    Being significantly more expensive does not help either.

    • @monk3yboy69
      @monk3yboy69 Місяць тому

      This thing is extremely inefficient…
      3.8mkwh.
      I came across from the Kia E Niro 64kw model 4+
      I had her for 3 years and did 118000 miles.
      I was getting on average around 4.2mkwh.
      The Ariya chews through juice like there is no tomorrow.
      Mine is the 87kw battery Evolve in Grey metallic
      I have had her now just coming onto a month .
      I can rate the drive . It is smooth and comfortable. The 19 inch wheels absorb the bumps nicely.
      There is a severe lack of storage in this car.
      The centre armrest is pointless.
      Nice materials adjourn the cabin but is let down by harder plastics on the lower door bins.
      It’s also rather pricey but you do get what you pay for.
      I should have gone for Nappa leather as I really do not like the seats on the Evolve .
      Otherwise , it’s ok.

    Three nights to charge at home? What? 87kwh battery, charging 10-80% =60,9kwh, on a standard 11kw charger is 5,53h. That's about half a night, not three.

    • @sebastiansandvik825
      @sebastiansandvik825 4 місяці тому +2

      @@Electrifyingcom Thanks for the reply. That could be the case for you, but not for most people. Most homes have 3 phase power, thus charging at 11kw, and most nights will be longer than 4 hours. Not to mention that you will not want to charge to 100%, even if the car doesn't have a feature to limit SoC. But even with 7,4kw you're still going to charge 70% in 8 hours.
      Saying it takes three nights is misleading, and is a very niche use case, which is only applicable if you're looking to push charging costs way down.

    • @dphillips9641
      @dphillips9641 4 місяці тому

      It's a review from the UK. 3 phase in UK domestic homes is as rare as hen's teeth and one of the most popular EV electricity tariffs gives 4 hours for charging. So no it's not misleading.@@sebastiansandvik825

    • @NickFoster
      @NickFoster 4 місяці тому +2

      @@sebastiansandvik825 "Most homes have 3 phase power, thus charging at 11kw" Not in the UK. Three phase is pretty rare in domestic buildings here so the standard for home charging is 7kW.
      In addition, many of the electricity tariffs for EV owners here have a 4 hour period overnight that is significantly cheaper than the daytime rate so you would only charge the car at that time.

    • @sebastiansandvik825
      @sebastiansandvik825 4 місяці тому

      @@NickFoster Well, in that case it should be mentioned that it's UK only, and doesn't apply elsewhere. And it should be mentioned that you only charge a third of the battery in 4 hours, which is different from a night. Because now most people will think they'll need to wait 3 days to get the battery full, when in real life they'll wake up with a full battery the next morning.

    * improve infotainment - it feels quite dated
    * increase charging speed - 170kW should be doable on the large battery
    * put the center console on manual rails, being motorized is silly
    * replace touch buttons for climate control and on center console with physical buttons
    * reduce the number of trims. Maybe FWD base small battery, FWD base large battery, AWD base large battery, AWD premier with optional moonroof large battery
    * bring back 1 pedal driving. I dont like 1pd but there's no reason not to have it
