From what I know about high fantasy it's not about the stakes so much as the setting/magic. While high fantasy is usually high stakes it doesn't have to be. That being said I ended up DNFing the sample I had downloaded. I found it a bit too low stakes for me.

There's both discussions on whether high fantasy is just when it takes place in an alternate world that's fully fleshed out with races and, you know, all of that, while low fantasy takes place in the real world, but there's also discussions on how big the conflicts/stakes in the book have to be for it to be high fantasy. Some say big conflicts/high stakes are a must, some say they're not factors - I'd personally say a cozy fantasy doesn't feel like a high fantasy to me 😂

Legends and Lattes was boring to me too. I have come to the conclusion I don't like cozy fantasy because I like plot.
