Richard Gasquet - 70 perfect backhand winners [HD]

- Richard Gasquet's main weapon - the single-handed backhand is indubitably one of the best one-handers in Tennis history! Richie's backhand is solid with both power and huge topspin and has been his fundamental shot over the years, bringing him huge successes both at the Grand Slams events and the ATP1000 Masters series events. His career-high singles ranking is world no. 7, achieved in July 2007. Gasquet reached the semifinals of the 2007 Wimbledon Championships and the semifinals of the 2013 US Open. He's also reached 3 ATP Masters finals in singles - Hamburg 2005 (lost to Federer), Toronto 2006 (lost to Federer), Toronto 2012 (lost to Djokovic).
Note: There are 70 clean backhand winners in the video but also 7 more winning shots that don't fall under the "winner" category as the opponent's racquet comes in contact.
I think Gasquet's backhand is so gorgeous that even his opponents like to play to his backhand and witness the class in action. Absolutely stunning piece of artistry.
just what i thought, that's his weapon they keep going there.
He finally won another atp title in the asb classic and i was so lucky to see him in the final in person
I love his backhand! The most beautiful shot in tennis!
if only it was a bit more efficient...
I'm not sure the problem is its efficiency. I just think that he has two issues, one of which is not his fault:
1- Tennis has turned into a very defensive game, where a lot of players are becoming good are returning shots that, a few decades ago, would qualify as winners. This compilation of his backhands showed it. As you saw, many of his backhands, prior to the actual winners, could have been winners.
2- Tennis is a sport where you need to have more than one strength at least. Look at a guy like Fernando Gonzalez. The guy had a screaming forehand. He could hit that thing hard throughout a 20-shot rally each time he hit a forehand. However, he didn't win as many tournaments as he could have because he was weaker on the backhand side. The same applies to Gasquet, only the other way around. The poor guy has one of the worst forehands on tour, with an emphasis on "on tour". He could wreck most of us in this comment section with that forehand. Now that, I believe, is his fault, because he could have worked on it, but chose to sacrifice everything for the backhand.
That's what I think, at least.
I want bigger picture
No. If only he did any net game.
you're truly right
Best backhand ever. His angles are insane
from the middle of the court even, he's got the best angles, agreed.
I've been an accomplished ranked player, and Gasquet has one of (if not the best) topspin backhands the game has ever seen. It's just one of those freakish shots you cannot deny or explain, an aberration. I will tell you the key and main thing to its power and effectiveness comes from his huge shoulder turn, early preparation, and exaggerated follow-through and pose. Beautiful to behold.
There is no sweeter shot in tennis than a Gasquet backhand down the line...
I think tennis the most beautiful game there is. And gasquet has the most beautiful shot in tennis. So I like watching gasquet.
It is beautiful no doubt... But I prefer Stanimal's one handed backhand. Stan The Man, baby
Justine Henin backhand ?
I would argue his cross court is sweeter. The angles he uses are nuts. Like RT said Stan down the line it’s that power of his.
Gasquet's cross-court is sweeter because he's unique twist path, Stan the man has more beautiful down the line due to the topspin (personal opinion~
He has a fuller swing and follow through than most forehands. It is a sight to behold
the best backhand of one hand of the world.
wawrinka is ..
no
Guga Kuerten says hi.
Richard, wawrinka and Guga top backhand
Gasquet backhand is more reliable, even on bad days Gasquet's backhand is still good. While Wawrinka is on a bad day nothing works for him.
There never existed nor shall a shot ever exist, thats as beautiful as gasquet backhand down the line. It just is breathtaking. SHEER ELEGANCE
I love watching Gasquet. He is one of my favourite players on tour next to Federer and Del Potro. He plays with so much class. Sad, that he hasn't got decent forehand.
Best backhand? Debatable, but certainly the most artful and beautiful I have ever seen!
How many more winners do you need to see from Gasquet??? Add to that, Gasquet is just a regular size man compared to the likes of Stan, Fed, and Dimitrov.
The best backhand on tour.
lol it's good but hardly the best. Novaks two hander is better, not as flashly maybe but overall more effective
@@MrSartorius1 Novak does not get anywhere near as many bh winners as Gasquet does. I'm a huge Novak fan but you are wrong on this one.
That shoulder and back strength is simply outstanding. What a beauty
I remember Fernando Gonzalez saying something like: "I wish I had Gasquet's backhand. Well, I guess he wishes he had my forehand shots as well" before a match against Richard.
And then Gonzalez won the match with a backhand winner.
Diego Leiva gonzo has an awesome backhand as well
that must have being such a bruh moment lol
Lol Gonzales' forehand wasn't even that good, he gets a winner on it every 3 UE, that's why he never won anything worth mentioning, it's funny that he thinks he has a better Forehand than most people.
Gherbi Hicham well he definitely has a better forehand than Gasquet
😂😂😂
His down-the-liner shots are like the ultimate silent FU statement in tennis... So beautiful and artful to watch. So refreshing among the millions of twohanders these days.
Gasquet reacts very quickly to a backhand shot and if he is well prepped then the shot is a killer shot. Also his backhand shows varying amounts of spin and pace.
Where are the French Open highlights from his 5 setter against Murray? I've never seen such a deadly backhand, hitting scorching winners from sometimes 10 feet behind the baseline on a slow surface. Incredible.
I need more Gasquet's backhand please.
french class
Best topspin single handed backhand in the world. His backhand is flawless, textbook stuff and unbreakable. Not even Nadal’s lefty topspin forehand can does a damage to it.
Best one handed backhand ever, the problem is that he cannot use it properly. He stays 3 meters behind the line and grind all match
That hand movement at 3:07 is so freaking fast :O
Absolutely stunning. Such a masterpiece. Greatness for eyes..
The brush strokes of an artist
This video seems to be referenced in his new book which is cool so I had to revisit it :-) . For me it is not just the backhand but the feel, the touch, the drop shots, the volleys and his many great matches(especially in Davis Cup) that I love. Allez Reeeecharrr!
The master bar none. IMO this is one of the most admirable skills in all of sports, it is soooo crazy wonderful. Competes with best soccer bicycle kick of all time at least, but I think betters it.
didn't know they allowed porn on youtube
this is far superior
This particular backhand ranks among the most aesthetically pleasing of athletic skills. In terms of appeal, I compare it to the windmill fast pitch of Eddie Feigner and the sky hook of Kareem Abdul-Jabaar.
Truly one of the best
He is able to reach every angle and corner of the court....this needs really good foot work, racket angle and precision shots each time..
I think tennis is the most beautiful sport we've ever come up with and Richard gasquet has the single most beautiful backhand I've ever seen. And of course Stan wawrinka has a sizzler of a backhand too.
Le plus beau revers du tennis moderne !
I think it's the best backhand top spin ever.
Wonderful backhand ! And Gasquet won 500 ATP matches during his career...not bad !!
So pure.
The match vs. Nishikori in Paris looks like a new good tennis game.
the best and the most gorgeous onehander in the men's game.
Stefan, well done on creating these shot-highlights!
Gasquet would've won so many more matches on the tour, especially against the Big Four had he changed his playing style a bit. He has such a great Backhand but he plays too passive..always from the baseline with no variations in shots. Hope he improves in the future..
His forehand is terrible too, compared to top 20 players at least
He is too weak mentally to win anything...also, as mentioned above, his forehand is so poor it's almost embarasing
@@wyatthunter987 Agreed, he really needs to show some nerve to beat the very best. It saddens me cos I confess I love the player.
@@dinkydoodle8325 It hasn't always been the case... Gasquet in junior destroyed Nadal, and his forehand was as great as his backhand then... but Gasquet has become lazy whne he became adult and also, he had been too arrogant, everyone was predicting hims a career as N°1, he thought that he could be whithout working... also he had a very changing mood, moral up and down avery second... His mood and his laziness remiinds me Henri Leconte, a Magician of tennis when he wants, the problem is that it seems he didn't want too much.
@@jpc7118 Yes its true, I was watching some of Gasquet's matches from the very beginning of his career the other day, and his forehand was better back then. He had a more conventional technique, was more agressive, and was hitting better zones. Its amazing and frustrating how his forehand worsened over time...
this video should be called "Gasquet's Backhand Destroys Everyone for 8 Minutes"
2:10 they creamed
I remember the first time I saw Gasquet playing, shocked by the fact that his backhand was better than his forehand.
I would say Richard Gasquet is king of one hand backhand in tennis. Nobody can beat him when it comes to back hand.
I'd choose Federer for consistency, Wawrinka for power and Gasquet for precision and beauty.
beauty. elegance
Beautiful to watch, thanks for posting!
super compilation merci
El revés de Gasquet, es de los mejores del mundo,es una delicia cuando golpea la pelota,es de una gran estética,es muy bueno.
5:31 Oh my gosh that point was brillant indeed
Gasquet's down the line backhand might just be the most elegant shot ever.
Many of those could be qualified as inside out backhands were they hit from across the centerline.
How he could generate so much racket head speed is beyond me.
Is there any video out there accurately analyzing how he managed to accomplish that?
Now ,there's Lorenzo Musetti with his gorgeous one-handed backhand 🤩
Thanks but I hope you can put this video another time with better quality.
Thre was Taufik Hidayat with his backhand smash in badminton , and there is Richard Gasquet with his backhand killer..
Poor Roddick lol!
His career as a whole was tragic. At least he won a US open.
Roddick had a good forehand but bad backhand, Gasquet has a poor forehand but a godly backhand. If only Gasquet had a better serve haha.
Normally is Berdych on these sorts of vids who you feel sorry for.
He rips it down the line.
Dude, can you make 70 BH winners of Henin?
+Alfando Savant Rosenda I second this.
oh yes
please!
Federer-Gasquet bests matches ever
such an extreme western grip! i hit a one hander as well and i dunno how he hits like that. makes my wrist sore just watching it.
Il s'est contenté de ce coup hallucinant, quel dommage !
I think,no i sure, that Richard has a best one hand backhand in all tennis history!
The most gorgeous shot in tennis bar none. Wish it were a little more consistent and efficient.
1:56 dat kick serve!
please do also one of federer that would be amazing :)
yes sir, i wil try to make a video, to my chanel
exponentielle le petit Ritchie
The backhand of Gasquet is perfect like Wawrinka.
Imagine Gasquet's backhand and Federer's forehand in one player...
Federer's forehand !? 😂😂😂
Love it!
Wow!
gaskay's backhand is bruising
le revers de rêve c ; le geste de wawrinka, la puissance de gasquet et la précision de Federer
J'aurais plutôt dit la puissance de Wawrinka, la régularité de Federer et la précision de Gasquet.
More please
if i were building a tennis player, i'd want the backhand of gasquet, the forehand of nadal, the serve of roddick, the body of djokovic and the mind of federer
edit: no i'd want the body of gael monfils who is an absolute freak of nature, no disrespect to djokovic
Its a very tough one between gasquet, federer or Wawrinka
Tough between gasqut and Wawrinka but fed backhand is trash (his weakness)
After Murray hitting a shot to Gasquet's backhand Murray starts singing "Oops I did it again." :D
Master Neo xd he is not the only one. Roddic threw his raquet away after being totally annihilated by that God Backhand jajaja
Hee hee . True true.
Murray : Oops I did it again....... (Verse)
Murray/Roddic : Hit it Gasquet , one more time (Chorus) :))))))
Great stroke. I think Gasquet's down the line was better than Kuerten's DTL.
Will there ever be another backhand like that in the game? If Federer had that backhand he could've beaten Nadal in RG at least a couple of times.
scratchfg212 Agreed ! And if Gasquet had such a forehand as well (and a little more mental strength), he'd be a GS winner for long.
0innerself0 :(
+scratchfg212 federer has one of the best backhand in tennis history mate ;) gasquet is slightly better but federer backhand slice on defense mode is just too damn good !
+Syn het But federer's backhand is definitely his weaker side, and that's why he lost to nadal 23 times.
Magic FuckBus You are right, it is his weaker side but it can be a deadly weapon aswell and he proved it many times against Nadal.
I love you ❤
You forgot the match point against Federer in Monte Carlo! Wow... this shot is the most beautiful in tennis, next up, Phil Kohlschreiber's?
MISTGUN FT THEME WHILE WATCHING THIS. iT IS HILARIOUS I WOULD MAKE A GASKET AMV FOR SURE WITH AFTER EFFECTS AND VEGAS ONE DAY XD
Andy Roddick probably still has nightmares about Gasquet's backhand. He's been highlight reeled by Richie's backhand so many times.
Do you remember the boy in Close Encounters of the Third Kind?Gasquet always reminds me of a grown-up version of him
Gasquet is handsome..
Amo ese revés 😍
Noone can compare to him as a one-handed backhander. Some have the strength, other the angles or the touch, but none have it all except Gasquet. Wawrinka, Kohlschreiber, Federer, Almagro, all a beauty to watch but can't compete.
Too bad he found a forehand at the end of his carreer. It's too late Richard...
Andy "out-of-position" Roddick
It's pretty but he hits it short too often. His down the line is nice, though. He really gets his hips into the shot, and that's where he gets his power. Wawrinka turns more than he does, which is where he gets his power. I'd say of the recent best backhands: Wawrinka, Almagro, Thiem, Federer, Gasquet, in that order.
With such backhand, Gasquet can beat the shit out of every one. Come on Gasquet, conquer a grand slam...it's been long due
Whose backhand is better. Warwinka or Gasquet?
IN. SANE.
Why do ppl try to break down his backhand lol
Attack the gasquet forehand
I’d pay to see a match with just wawrinka and Gasquet hitting backhands
Can you pls do a David Nalbandian version of this video?
i wish my 1 hander was half as good as this omg
The 5 best one BH in my opinion, not in order. Wawrinka,Federer,Haas,Kuerten and Gasquet. Now the more complete has to be Federer,he can hit flat, plenty of top spin and has a great slice, Maybe Gasquet looks better and that is all
How can someone with such a beautiful backhand have such a terrible forehand?
さすが!ガスクエト!
Wow wow wow! how talented is this guy. The poor man's Federer!
Gasquet's backhand : nice but efficient too ? It's pretty but he hits it short too often.
Hey Stefan Dimov could you do Justine Henin 70 Backhand Winners?
fucking beautiful
And he made them against strong players : King Federer, Nadal, Djoko, Roddick, Nishikori, Del Potro, Murray... they are not low players. It's a pity that Gasquet didn't always wish to play, too lazy, too unconstant... in junior era, he was stronger than Nadal, and once adult, has never beaten him. He reminds me the french older player Henri leconte , a fantasque player which was doing tennis just for his happiness but it was too depending on his mood, and his mood was so changing.
Después de Federer, obviamente, este es el revés que más me gusta.
