i would appreciate a video about all the negatives of breeding reptiles, there are a lot of risks, unpredictable things and it can be super hard to sell animals or certian morphes. what do you do if you got a litter that wont sell, what do you do when you count on a litter and doesnt work out, virus infections, laws that makes things complicated and so on. the marked is also changing, maybe usa is still good but outside usa like europe its getting a very hard competeive game despite the big players. And in every way people have to be clear about the most important thing : this is no easy money, keeping the animals healthy and clean, getting 20 snakes to eat can be a pain in the ass at the end its all hard work and maybe videos like yours lead people to think thats its not that reptile breeding is an easy way to money. so make a video about the dark side of the buisnes, about the problems just to get the right picture.
This is a great video topic and I will add it to my list for the next round of recording. I made a video like this many years ago, but it’s time for an update.
@@JasonsExoticReptiles that would be great, would love to see that. think my biggest point would be that in every case you should start low and not jump all in cind of, keeping and sellings lots of reptiles and different species, specialy snakes, require a lot of expeirence that you just cant get from looking at youtube videos, you have to pratkise, starts with sexing the sankes. thanks made, keep on doing good content aou are actually the only reptile youtube guy i watch on regular bases and it helped me a lot as reptile breeder.
I think there is good info in this video. I think that the biggest thing that needs to be emphasized is that it needs to get treated like a business to make it work as a business. It takes as much to market/sell animals as it does to produce it, and it's not as much fun. Animal purchases are not longer "pets" or "dream animals" or "projects." They are strategic investments. 90% of people who breed animals, myself included, don't really treat it like a business, and that's why it never becomes more than a hobby. The other thing that is problematic about boas as a business is the long and expensive ramp up time to cash flow.
100%! People get into it and treat it as some type of a hobby, but they expect business results. That was potentially feasible 20 years ago, but now there is a lot more competition and there are a lot more avenues to sell. I would go as far as saying that if you’re not willing to put more effort into marketing than it takes to produce then, you were going to struggle to sell. I still treat this very much like a hobby, but it’s marketed like a business. At the same time, I treat certain aspects like a business. I buy pallets of betting, thousands of dollars of rats at a time. In order to make it work, you need to buy in bulk and look at all of your costs from a business perspective.
I really appreciate this video! I'm setting up my llc through the Pittsburgh SBA right now. Sold tarantulas as a sole proprietorship but fell in love with snakes, and would love the tax breaks! :-) Know any breeders near Pittsburgh that need help at their business and could help me learn? Any help would be greatly appreciated! :-)
@JasonsExoticReptiles Thank you for that! I havent talked to the lawyers yet (still have 3 free sessions to set up the plan before then) and it is me and a buddy. We were thinking if we wanted investors, etc. and then that's a whole different story lol Appreciate the info!
Hey Jason! This may be a dumb question 😅 but do you produce your own feeders? If so, how do you present them frozen thawed? Do you freeze them alive or is there another humane way you utilize before the actual freezing process.
My business is better than ever this year. All depends on the work you plan to put into it. If you plan to buy snakes, raise them, breed, and post for sale with no effort in marketing, then it’s never a good business.
Bro this might sound crazy I’m from Canada in sure you no taht J lol we talk on Instagram;) I’m really thinking of this and I have one boa and one blood and one BP what should I do next and I love all them , you are a big reason I’m going to start this up, thx you see you at the next

You can stay a sole proprietorship and still get all the same tax breaks unless you start getting employees and utilize payroll

I do not. It’s easier to buy and not a huge savings from if I produced myself.
Still a nice business idea to start in 2024 ?

Are you getting out of the business?
Not at all. Ramping up if anything.
Awesome I've learned a lot from your videos
