Great video, this was one of my childhood malls and I can remember when nearly every storefront was filled. There was 2 jewelry stores just outside JC Penney's, an eye doctor and glasses place, a place that sold the best decorated chocolate chip cookies, KB Toys, Bookland, Disk Jockey/Fye, Regis hair salon, Claries, Sears, B&H Shoes, Chinatown Buffet, military recruiters were down near Belks, Kmart (then Steve & Barrys where now Roses is), Taco Casa, Dollar Tree, a pizza place, antique dress up photo place, ah the memories. I wish those stores were still there and still filled that mall. Thank you for the lovely video and stroll down memory lane.
Ah I forgot where Shoe Show now is was a Drugstore and another store front that's no longer there. Also there was a large Hallmark Goldcrown store and a Footlocker, plus a Fashion Bug, and Cato. This place holds a lot of memories for me as this mall or Fort Henry Mall (and the late Kingsport Mall where their TJ Max/Ross shopping center now stands) were where we went every weekend when I was a kid. Most people forget down in Middlesboro at the other shopping center that last housed a Goody's that it was a Service Merchandise but that went out I think in the late 1980s.
This is my hometown and it breaks my heart to see what the mall has become. It’s hard for businesses to stay in our mall because of how insanely expensive the rent is. If the owners would be more flexible with said rent then we could have a lot more stores than we have now. I’m also sorry that mall employee was so unkind. You weren’t being malicious at all and you didn’t deserve that treatment.
Love the brick & tile decor and the well-maintained planters. And that shot midway through of the sunlight through the glass doors midway through was amazing!
I had a lot of great memories. It's so sad going in the mall now. I wonder if they realize if they lower rent it could fill up and make more money than what they are making now.....
Sorry to hear you had an encounter here. I experienced a situation when documenting a Kmart back in the day where I was essentially forced to delete photos and escorted off the property. This led me to read up on the topic. Once you have taken a photo or video, it is your property. You legally own that photo or video. They can not make you delete it- something I didn't know at the time. They only legal thing they can do is ask you to stop taking video/photos and/or leave the property. Oddly enough, I visited this property myself in May 2023 with no issues. Granted, I only took photos for my Random Retail Flickr photostream.
Nathan, you are definitely correct! Sorry you had that issue. While malls and retail spaces are not public property, security and the police cannot make someone delete the images or take possession of your phone or camera. Unfortunately, laws are twisted, misunderstood and selectively enforced and interpreted differently by everyone… even the police and legal system. Either way, those images and video definitely were your possession at that point.
I personally spoke with the owner about 3 years ago and wanted to help do something to fill space in the mall. He never met with me. I was trying to give him ideas for our area and people. This is NOT from him but for this area I was told they basically ran rent so high people moved on to greener pastures. Evidently it does not matter because it sets empty and our residents drive 45 minutes to shop.
Great video and voiceover as always! If you don’t have an osmo pocket, you really need to get one. Also, if you don’t want to hold the osmo, wear a backpack and get a strap mount for the camera so your hands are free. I have a video coming out of Oglethorpe mall where I used this method and the video came out good as the pocket has its own axis gimbal even though it was at an angle on my straps.
I have an osmo pocket 1 at this point and I've already used it to film one place, although I'm not entirely happy with how the footage came out. The exposure was off at times. But oh well, live and learn for the next time.
@@TheMallFox I recommend the pocket 2 instead of the 1. It’s got a wider field of view and I think the color reproduction looks better on it. It also does a better job with the adjusting to the exposure in darker scenes.
I love this mall!!! I live here and it's my favorite mall to shoplift at! Much love man!
This is a wild comment. Shoplifting is lame.

Great video man! This place is such a gem. Sucks you got kicked out. :(
That guy crazy but love your video :)

Thanks. I learned from that experience. Sometimes, though, one does need to use caution. You never know what might set someone off nowadays.

@@TheMallFox hmmm… luckily my osmo has worked fine because I have ZERO idea how to do any of the few settings on that thing! 🤣

Remember people photography is NOT a crime. Know your law and your rights!
If he said that, that's derogatory. He should be fired for that.
it all fell apart when taco casa left!
Greed killed this mall rather sit empty than lower rent hobby lobby cam in and they increased every ones rent
we all get replaced
u tryna wrangle a camera or somethin???
Moving dollar tree to front killed interior traffic
Rude. Delete your footage? Is that guy for real?
