Omg! Thats an amazingly beautiful bug! Never ever seen a prying mantis with such a vibrant pink colour, i never even new something as beautiful existed in thailand. All the years ive spent in the sticks ive seen lots of weird and wonderful creatures but nothing as beautiful as this. Thank you for sharing,
Ryan Darcy yeah, thing is, even if you're looking right at it, you'd overlook it right away as a flower. I wonder how many i've seen in the past and not known!
Absolutely Beautiful! I like this particular video of yours because you don't mess with them. You just film them and leave them be. I like that! Thank you! :D
a little ways out of Chiang Mai I found what the locals call. the butterfly museum. but in reality it is an incredible collection of insects. bring your macro lens the best time is in the monsoon season when the butterflies are breeding but their collection of praying mantises is incredible. I did not notice the one that you pointed out. but lots of other ones straight out of nightmares. and a collection of stick bugs. and all other sorts of beetles
I saw in the description that it did't fly because they become vulnerable to birds. It was actually not able to fly because it is a nymph still and has not developed it's wings yet.
+Minji Kwon Evolution has given it this strange movement which actually helped it survive because it looks like the wind is blowing a loose flower or leaves... quite awesome to see.
How can evolution be so perfect that it moves in such a way that it's pray would think it's a flower in the wind? Something more Devine something way more calculated
Evolution isn't perfect. But mantis that look more like what is around them are less likely to be eaten. Over time, the genes that help them to blend in become more defined while the "bad" genes die off. Thus over a long period of time you get a praying mantis that looks like a flower, and moves as if it's a flower or leaf blowing in the wind. Look at the evolution of dogs and cats for example. Obviously this was done with human hands, by breeding dogs and cats for our own personal use or preferences. But it's the same idea, just sped up.
Actually orchid mantises seldom survive to adulthood, they attract birds when they are fully colored. if there is a creator he created them to be eaten.

Jim Hollywood yeah, the coolest Jim, you wouldn't believe it up close.
Thailand Living I'd love to see that bug up close, as opposed to the snakes, where I find myself slowly moving away from my computer screen!

So are they largely a human breed type of mantis, kind of like poodles?
Good find
Jordan H The guy that runs the resort found it and told another friend where it was hanging out. It stayed in the same area for at least 4 days.
Where is this anyway?
