    Drew was a producer/musician for many years before he met Alex, who had been DJing for many years. So Drew produces the songs with Alex's advice, and Alex creates their live sets (which are fucking amazing), so both members are very valuable imo.

    Mad Respect to the Chainsmokers for taking the time to educate the world on how they made a track. I have seen a ton of people act like its a huge secret... We are all aware of the programs out there and the tools, its just nice to see it put together on camera so we can see how they did it. Thanks guys, you rock!!!

      Dada life is one of them that keeps a project like a big secret. Like i want to know how they made their track ”kick out the epic motherf’ker” and they said in the comments that this track will be explained but they never explained it :(

    This is one of the best examples how less is more. It's amazing how these guys are producing with basic stuff. Just EQ8, Ableton Multiband Compressor, Presets... They don't use Fabfilter or Waves EQ and they don't complicating a lot to using many other plugins or designing a complex Synth Layering to develop this fucking Hit. Just have an amazing idea. That's it!!

    • @danieIlondon
      @danieIlondon 8 років тому +3

      +Peter Hoffman It's the technical stuff that separates tracks that sound cool and tracks that reach their full potential. Go watch the Noisia video. You'll learn much more useful things - not just experimentation.

    • @peterhoffman5616
      @peterhoffman5616 8 років тому +8

      +Daniel K I appreciate the sentiment but I'm personally not very interested in the technical aspects of music production, only in musicality and creativity.
      Noisia are awesome and all but no offense, in my opinion there's not much new going on there.. I'm more interested in making magic than in how to make and re-sample yet another distorted Reese bass.
      I would say there's well over one million songs made every day, and still there are not that many great songs in any given year, I mean really great timeless pieces of music that touch people.
      The Chainsmokers have two out of two hits and have created a fresh sound that also has gained a lot of play. To make something fresh and creative and get on high rotation is not easy.

    i think modern day producers are geniuses that know how to occupy the low, mid, and high frequencies of every song through special effects and good ol' fashioned instruments. they produce nearly the entire song with all the instruments (although plugins and AI helps them with shit) .... but it's still genius how they literally produce the whole song from a computer and a keyboard.

    Fantastic seeing the creation of the synth effect on the chorus. Always blew me away hearing the synth with such a unique dynamic of bass and crispy treble rolled into one. The Sylenth "Icicle" tone he used was okay, but after cranking the sustain and tweaking the EQ levels it became something truly dope. Yes, the chord progress does make it great, but the tone is nearly equal in importance. Super dope track.

      Drews the producer, I believe hes the DJ, however, still produces. Usually a Duo group "assigns" each other duties in the group, one may DJ the other may produce, one may sing the other may produce, one may mix and the other writes, etc etc.

      ericimi Alex is the "hype guy" he is the guy who says weather something is bad or good, some producers get lost sometimes trying to make stuff too perfect, and the hype guy is the guy who acts as a normal music listener... Kashmir did it to when he was in the cataracs. And he has more Dj experience than drew... If you look at their sets Alex djs the most, and drew controls the crowd. (Guy in the left/Alex) (Guy in the right/Drew)

    • @AyerodMusic

      Nothing is wrong with FL Studio if you get some nice drum kits and VST's. Don't worry about what other people think. A lot of major producers use it.

      Madeon actually uses fruity loops, and a lot of other big time producers. It's just stereotyped that most people START on fruity loops. Not necessarily true though.

    • @emblazed
      @emblazed 8 років тому +39

      Tip from someone that started with FL many years ago, and has been using Ableton for the last 10 - there is nothing wrong with either of them. My engineer friend used to make fun of me when I first downloaded FL many many years ago saying it was a toy and sh!7 program, which is rubbish now considering many of the top producers use FL like Porter Robinson and Madeon. But that comment was enough to discourage me for pushing further into FL. Fortunately I switched to Ableton. The reason why I've stuck with Ableton all these years is the user interface and ease of use-which still comes down to your own personal preference. If you like FL better than Ableton, then stick to it. You can produce an amazing track with either. I used to write edm on Reason and Pro tools before that. It doesn't matter about the software. Focus on putting in the hours to master the program like you'd master a language so when inspiration hits you, you can focus on writing the song and not focusing on how to access an EQ or comp or plugin that you need. Also, don't focus on the judgement of others or opinions of others about your music. I was writing stuff like Justice back in 2007 and just ignored it because my friends said it sounded like garbage. Then I heard Justice and crapped my pants thinking about the tracks I wrote that sounded like it. I was writing pop EDM with hardstyle drops in 09 before it hit in about 2011, but my friend who I was producing with at the time said it'd never work in the clubs. Now that's all you hear. The point is, write what is true to you and your heart. Dont focus on the program, or the hunt for the perfect kick sample or perfect patch for a synth plugin. Just get to work. Put out tracks. HAVE FUN. And if you make money along the way good job. The songs you make will find an audience, just be true to yourself. Now in my late 20's, thats the hardest lesson I had to learn over the years. Fortunately it's helped me a lot since. Be true to yourself. Screw everyone else. Use the program you want. Make the songs you want. And most importantly, publish it. Don't sit on it forever and do nothing with it. Good luck.

      Woofaaa! It's just good that a beginner in this thing could have a very thoughtful lesson from someone with a lot of experience with it. Thanks! I was actually not more focusing on the program but hunting for the good samples or etc but I guess I know what I got to do now. (sorry for bad english)
