I don't know why this appeared in my UA-cam feed but I'm extremely happy that it did. I've been looking for a sign to help me decide what career path I should take and I think this video has helped me find out.
I feel like Discovering this whole channel has helped me grow confidence in the path I want to take in my Life. I am in University right now doing my 3rd year. I hope to come back here in 5 to 10 years♥️
This totally tore me up! Coming from a terrible area, school was a place that saw me at my worst. I am now studying to be a teacher and nearing graduation. Having those teachers who believe in you before you believe in yourself pushes a student to do amazing things! I want to be one of these educators and it warms my heart to see the passion coming from this video. I loved the part where the staff gathered outside to wave the 8th graders off. Those teachers are sending those kids out in the world to accomplish great things!
We're glad you liked the video, this one gets some of our team members teary-eyed, too.❤️ Thanks for sharing your story! Good luck in your studies, you're going to be a great teacher!
“Really in the past it never happened, and in a lot of schools, it won’t happen” True: Quote taken, It’s actually kinda hard to implement in larger schools, there’s just to little people to instruct/influence to large amount of students I feel lucky to have positive outgoing teachers and principals, kids are our future generation, we need to help them feel a change in that they will be willing to help solve some problems left by us present, today (school can really affect this)
I think that it is great the way that the Principal is inspiring Teachers and Students alike to be on the same page. I hope that their family life is being addressed. It is well known that (diet) affects the ability to think and learn. It is a total package. Bring in the parents.
My first job was as a social studies teacher at Fred Lynn nearly 15 years ago and my memories of that school remain with me and inspire me even now. What an amazing story that should touch us all and I am beyond moved to be watching this from afar.
Perfect timing with this vid! I am currently a 5th grade teacher in a school very similar. Problem is, we have the teachers, leadership and students to make some great changes and growth (Testing and Culture). We are constantly finding new ways to build teamwork, motivation and perseverance in our kids. Very inspirational! I love being a teacher!
This is the opposite of my school. My teachers made it clear if you came from a poor family that was abusive that you would grow up to be nothing. The rich kids were told not to be friends with the poor kids. My family was very poor. I have three syblings that are doctors and Im doing better than the majorty of my class. Good on this principal! He gets life!
Principal Brewer knows how to kick some butt on saving a failing Middle School from going bust and he knows how to make it fun and have these academics and the environment is very lovely and I give him credit for it
Teachers get paid SHITE. These people have to graduate college. Be prepared for kids who are all things...well, sick, hungry, spoiled, sad, able, enraged, scared, quiet, loud, happy, content, abused, twisted...any and every scenario. Loony parents. Absent parents. And we pay them shite. It’s a fact. And here are these BEAUTIFUL HUMANS HERE in this video. Priceless. My awesome teachers were a lifelong inspiration. And now as an adult I understand why the “ bad” ones were that way. It’s a wretchedly hard and mostly thankless job. Bless these people. Every damn one. Adults and kids. Pure beauty. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This is WONDERFUL.
As a teacher in an extremely low income and underperforming school, this video and Hamish himself are truly inspirational. I’m going to share this with every teacher, school, and district I can.
I went to Occoquan elementary while Mr. brewer was the principle there. he was the greatest principle I've ever seen. sadly I moved to Indiana in 2016.
Wow this was incredibly inspirational. I am currently on my way to being a teacher and my end goal is principal. I hope to take this man's methodologies and transform students and the way teachers teach as well. I must start in my classroom and that is only the beginning.
There’s a phrase I once heard. It’s important to mention that I am fortunate enough to attend one of the best public schools in my state. One of our teachers told us this; “Most of you were born on third base and didn’t hit a triple.” These kids and teachers did.
How the hell does this only have 504 views my youtube video got so much more and I barely put in any effort like i would donate my views to this video because it deserves it much more
Please change how public schools operate. The same old system no longer works. We need change, the children need change, this planet's future needs change!!!
Education is becoming an impossible feet. Teaching is the only profession we ask someone to give their life to other people's children without pay and without the necessary supports. We have examples of Finkand who turned their country's educational system around yet we keep trying to force feed this mess to teachers in the US. THE structure here in Amercia is a slave mentality and the controlling forces want to keep the middle class stressed, struggling. overworked and underpaid to keep control. If all this really worker then our educational syst wouldn't be failing overall. These are temporary fixes at best. if a fix at all
This whole thing is so relevant but @2:36 is the heart of the what needs to be done to turn things around in schools to keep kids attention. This guy is the man! I would love to team up with him because this is what we do too. www.getaboard.org

Truly amazing. Wish you were able to motivate other schools and teachers with your desires to have kids be 101.
It can't all be put on the schools. Incentive, responsibility, accountability, self discipline. This is a wonderful story!
