At that time Johnny Walker sir was only supporting actor who got his own separate songs in films which are also directed on him...also he was the second face of sir MD Rafi's voice after Shammi Kapoor.. Sensor board had never cut his any single Dilogues in his entire career..pure comedy and nothing else..he was such a great comedian of Indian Cinema..also proved that you can be popular more than any hero by your acting skills... truly legend
very gr8 this took me 50 yrs bank & reminded my golden days of young era. i enjoyed all this on single screen on 5 aana’s ticket now even don’t imagine such pleasure. feeling very loving those days.-- :)
Dr. Arvind Kotasthane My grandfather tells me about the days he used to sit in wankhede to watch the cricket matches for free. You ppl have experienced the real Bombay :)
Udit Vaidya My grandfather tells me of the time he visited lahore , although had money to spend but were still content .... maybe these days we have got our priorities wrong .
When you realize, there are four film titles inspired by the first four lines of this song - 1. Ae Dil Hai Mushkil - 2016 2. Jeena Yahan - 1979 3. Zara Hatke Zara Bachke - 2023 4. Bambai Meri Jaan - 2023 (Web Series)
I spent the first 22 years of my life in my hometown Calcutta, then went to Bombay and was there for 4 years..I remember how sad I was when I left Calcutta for Bombay, but sad would be an understatement to describe my feelings while leaving Bombay..it has been 2 years I have left Bombay, but still I miss it, miss it more than Calcutta..every city has its own charm, but there is something about Bombay that you won't find in any other city..MISS YOU BOMBAY, MISS YOU A LOT..
Meaning of this song is dark but lyrics and composition are absolutely light hearted Plus Johnny Walker Sir to act in it makes it a absolute masterpiece
Just 5 minutes ago i was crying due to some personal reasons but listening to this song took away all my depression and feeling so happy now :) . I really miss those beautiful days when songs used have meanings and melody and zero nudity .
In the 60 years since this was shot I've noticed that Marine Drive and CST station haven't changed that much. The number of people though have increased quite a bit. I miss my city :)
Man I'm an 80's born and been listening to this gem on Radio every morning when getting ready for school, back then TV was just a 1 channel start up. So we had to heavily rely on radios and was damn entertaining. The life of Bombay ( I still call that, sue me) was pretty much the same as the song depicts. Every Bombaywallas can relate to that song and Johnny Walker the genius whose legacy we so neglected even though almost every song that was picturized on him was timeless gem. He was Nation's 1st Comedian guys. It was those days where our old generations were so fresh out of depression and what not, only to find some leisure and light hearted comedy from this adorable man in talkies. He was people's comic who did satire on the movies even though the roles were small. RIP Johnny Walker of India.
I am from Kerala lived in Mumbai 3 years , from 1980 to 1983 . It was there I learned to be self reliant and perseverance . It’s best city people mind their own Business . Love ❤️ you Mumbai 🥰
if you watch old movie or listen song you will find attachment to that because thet showed problems faced be middle class people whereas todays movies only shows party, alchol, glamorous life of riches
As a little boy growing up back home. My Grandmother use to turn on the radio every evening between 6pm and 8pm.These 2 hours of classics.Old classics including this song.Memories.
Did my college at St Xavier's, loved the city. Taught me so much the easy way and the hard way. Very grateful to the city even after residing all over the world. However, would never live there now
I grew up listening to these songs because my father has been a die-hard fan of Rafi sahab. Now, I am out of India and my father is old. I know one day when he's gone, I will cry and listen to this song and remember him and the Bombay I grew up in. I feel extremely sad already because I see young faces like Johnny Walker's, young voices like Rafi sahab's, and I realise that nothing lasts in this world - only memories till we're finally gone. These songs are our memories. 😢
I became a Rafi fan because of my father. We had 3 video cassettes comprising of Rafi's songs. I used to watch them all the time. Now, I live abroad and my father has dementia. He remembers everything but he can't remember the most recent memories. But we still can have great discussion around these beautiful black and white songs. Grateful to my father for introducing me to the greatness of Rafi Sahab.
Loving Mumbai (Bombay)... No matter what is the name of this city, no matter about our religion, no matter about our status. This is the place where we can breath freely with Big heart. :)
This song brings back the memories of my grandfather I wish he was with me, but my father always tell me the story about Bombay of 60's and this song just make me feel like I'm actually visiting Bombay of 60's and 70's marvellous song 🙌
The entire song describes the every day life in mumbai and the last 2 lines sum up the character (sung by Geeta Dutt) of amchi mumbai ! enjoy the wonderful song
Aaj ke time mein bhi yeah lines kitni apt hai It's was a reality back then, and it still holds true today.
Such a memorable melody. Combination of the two great Indian artists - Md. Rafi sahib and Johnny - such wonderful two people. We will remember them all along.
the essence of Mumbai, the creative and performing arts capital, caught in the brilliant lyrics and composed by op nayyar in the guru dutt film as early as in 1956.a milestone song.
Translation: Aye dil hai mushkil jeena yahan Oh my dear heart, life is but a struggle here, Zara hat ke zara bach ke, yeh hai Bombay meri jaan Be a bit alert, be a bit street wise, this is Bombay my love Kahin building kahin traame, kahin motor kahin mill There are buildings, there are trams, there are cars, and there are mills Milta hai yahan sab kuchh ik milta nahin dil One can find everything here, except a loving heart Insaan ka nahin kahin naam-o-nishaan There is not a trace of humanity in this bustling city Zara hat ke zara bach ke, yeh hai Bombay meri jaan Be a bit alert, be a bit street wise, this is Bombay my love Aye dil hai mushkil jeena yahan Oh my dear heart, life is but a struggle here, Zara hat ke zara bach ke, yeh hai Bombay meri jaan Be a bit alert, be a bit street wise, this is Bombay my love Kahin satta, kahin patta kahin chori kahin res There is gambling, there are card games, there is robbery and race, Kahin daaka, kahin phaaka kahin thokar kahin thes There is starvation, there is suffering, there is insult and grief Bekaaro ke hain kai kaam yahan Yet the jobless find a multitude of occupations Zara hat ke zara bach ke, yeh hai Bombay meri jaan Be a bit alert, be a bit street wise, this is Bombay my love Beghar Ko Aawara Yahan Kehte Has Has Here, they call the homeless ‘loafers’ in jest Khud kaate gale sabke kahe isko business While, themselves they cut throats in the name of business Ik cheez ke hain kai naam yahan It may be the same game, but it goes by many names Zara hat ke zara bach ke, yeh hai Bombay meri jaan Be a bit alert, be a bit street wise, this is Bombay my love Bura duniya woh hai kehta aisa bhola tu na ban You call the world unfair, don’t be so naïve Jo hai karta woh hai bharta hai yahan ka yeh chalan One reaps what one sows, that’s how it works here Tadbeer nahin chalne ki yahan Deliberation would take you only so far here Yeh hai Bombay, yeh hai Bombay, yeh hai Bombay meri jaan This is Bombay, indeed this is Bombay, yes this is Bombay my love Aye dil hai mushkil jeena yahan Oh my dear heart, life is but a struggle here Zara hat ke zara bach ke, yeh hai Bombay meri jaan Be a bit alert, be a bit street wise, this is Bombay my love Aye dil hai aasaan jeena yahan Oh my heart, it can be a breeze to live here Suno mister, suno bandhu, yeh hai Bombay meri jaan Listen mister, listen brother, this is Bombay my love Aye dil hai mushkil jeena yahan Oh my dear heart, life is but a struggle here Zara hat ke zara bach ke, yeh hai Bombay meri jaan Be a bit alert, be a bit street wise, this is Bombay my love
O.P. Nayyar Masterpiece. Rafi did great. Johny Walker is fantastic. Best Bombay song in all of Hindi movies. What a memorable hit song! Thanks for uploading and giving the subtitles.
Doctorr Zeus this song was first sung in 1849 and subsequently copied by many singers, the last one was Connie Francis. This song is totally different , the tune the lyrics and everything is different.
This song will be close to Mumbaikars even after 100 years from now… Nothing has changed. We in other states and other states look up to Mumbai. It’s fascinating every-time I visit the city even though I am super modern myself. I am an Indian brought up in London myself and the speed at which people walked speaks volumes of Mumbai erstwhile Mumbai. My India ❤, I will be close to you wherever I am.
As american Indian I just recently visited India to meet my family. Luckily they are all in Bombay. This song reminds of the wonderful time I had there! Also the tune is the exact same as oh my darling clementine which was my favorite song when I was in kindergarten
Beautiful song by Mohd. Rafi & Geeta Dutt with a comedy touch & realistic approach depicting a scene of a metro city where life is very tough for a common man. Majrooh Sultanpuri was the lyricist & O.P. Nayyar composed this song very fabulously. A 1956 release C.I.D. was a successful movie of its time due to the hit songs and its thrilling subject with a big starcast like Devanand, Shakeela, Waheeda Rehman, Johny Walker, K.N. Singh, Kumkum etc.
She may go by Bombay to some, Mumbai to others, but a rose by any other name would still smell as sweet. Yeh hai Bombay meri jaan!!! There's not a more magical city in the world!
I donno why but those lyrics came to my mind just came to hear some nice classic, those times am sure ppl where different still imagine it's a song that's warning you about the city life in that era. Love from 2023 ❤
I have come here after reading the class 11th NCERT of sociology in which this song was given as a reference to depict the situations of industrial revolution in England
What a simple yet so powerful song, so fresh even after 50-60 years. Just listen to bass and how beautifully Rafi syncing and mind you no modern technology no digital garbage or auto tuners. They were really quality singer.
In 2023, when I visited Mumbai, this song kept playing in my head. I've traveled to many places, but Mumbai has a unique charm that draws you in. It's the kind of city you want to return to after experiencing it. I sat for hours at Marine Drive, saw the Gateway of India, walked through the museum, and experienced the peaceful ocean at night. This song perfectly captures the spirit of Mumbai.
Sums up Aamchi Mumbai in a nutshell. Amazing how this song is more relevant 60 years on. Mumbai is an emotion they say, but that is just glossing over the cold dark reality, the city silhouettes!
this song dedicated to all who live in bombay...sapno kaa sahar a dream city.....yaha sab kuch badal jata hain bas ek samudar hi hain joh nahi badalta aur logo ki jeene ki soch...i feel happy because i am the little part of mumbai.....request to all state ki mumbai ke logo ki tarah jeena sikho...pure india koi hi mumbai banao....! kyun ki yeh bombay hain meri jaan..!
I am from Lahore Pakistan. But this song is in my blood right from my childhood days. After all Lahore, Delhi, Bombay and Karachi are sister cities. We the people of Indian subcontinent
Badruddin tayyabi aka Johny walker was one of the most complete actor Sadly today's generation doesn't know about him much. He was much better the small hearted big b and Rajesh khanna sadly no one remember him now
❤At the age of just around fourteen years doing highschool this song use to PLAYING as advertisement by a person doing porcher repeating of CYCLES and entering the students or all other as ENTERTAINMENT in waiting. and I remembered that song by heart. THANKS TO YOU TUBE CHANNEL for keeping amazing references and not just focusing eyes on PROFIT lines is certainly peculiar service of HUMANITY and thanks again and again for that.
The song is of year 1956 and now the year is 2023 but the lyrics are same till now for bombay now the generations can feel the lyrics all things changest but the cst and marine lines remains same only cst changes name originally its VT station❤❤❤❤❤
Johnny walker walks away singing the face and facade of Bombay . The city of dreams but despair , the city of professionalism but pressure , the city of ambition but anguish . what can we say of Bombay _ a mixed bag of opportunities . Survival of the fittest theory apply to Bombay .
Now + 71, the song reminds me of early days in college, when we used to see movies skipping college.
+banda gangaraju hahaha we do that even today
banda gangaraju thats so sweet...i wanna do that too
Those were the memories that makes everyone cry................
My late dad used to tell me about sneaking out of school and home to watch these films

Every time I listen to this song, it makes me cry
the essence of Mumbai, the creative and performing arts capital, caught in the brilliant lyrics and composed by op nayyar in the guru dutt film as early as in 1956.a milestone song.
Translation:
Aye dil hai mushkil jeena yahan
Oh my dear heart, life is but a struggle here,
Zara hat ke zara bach ke, yeh hai Bombay meri jaan
Be a bit alert, be a bit street wise, this is Bombay my love
Kahin building kahin traame, kahin motor kahin mill
There are buildings, there are trams, there are cars, and there are mills
Milta hai yahan sab kuchh ik milta nahin dil
One can find everything here, except a loving heart
Insaan ka nahin kahin naam-o-nishaan
There is not a trace of humanity in this bustling city
Zara hat ke zara bach ke, yeh hai Bombay meri jaan
Be a bit alert, be a bit street wise, this is Bombay my love
Aye dil hai mushkil jeena yahan
Oh my dear heart, life is but a struggle here,
Zara hat ke zara bach ke, yeh hai Bombay meri jaan
Be a bit alert, be a bit street wise, this is Bombay my love
Kahin satta, kahin patta kahin chori kahin res
There is gambling, there are card games, there is robbery and race,
Kahin daaka, kahin phaaka kahin thokar kahin thes
There is starvation, there is suffering, there is insult and grief
Bekaaro ke hain kai kaam yahan
Yet the jobless find a multitude of occupations
Zara hat ke zara bach ke, yeh hai Bombay meri jaan
Be a bit alert, be a bit street wise, this is Bombay my love
Beghar Ko Aawara Yahan Kehte Has Has
Here, they call the homeless ‘loafers’ in jest
Khud kaate gale sabke kahe isko business
While, themselves they cut throats in the name of business
Ik cheez ke hain kai naam yahan
It may be the same game, but it goes by many names
Zara hat ke zara bach ke, yeh hai Bombay meri jaan
Be a bit alert, be a bit street wise, this is Bombay my love
Bura duniya woh hai kehta aisa bhola tu na ban
You call the world unfair, don’t be so naïve
Jo hai karta woh hai bharta hai yahan ka yeh chalan
One reaps what one sows, that’s how it works here
Tadbeer nahin chalne ki yahan
Deliberation would take you only so far here
Yeh hai Bombay, yeh hai Bombay, yeh hai Bombay meri jaan
This is Bombay, indeed this is Bombay, yes this is Bombay my love
Aye dil hai mushkil jeena yahan
Oh my dear heart, life is but a struggle here
Zara hat ke zara bach ke, yeh hai Bombay meri jaan
Be a bit alert, be a bit street wise, this is Bombay my love
Aye dil hai aasaan jeena yahan
Oh my heart, it can be a breeze to live here
Suno mister, suno bandhu, yeh hai Bombay meri jaan
Listen mister, listen brother, this is Bombay my love
Aye dil hai mushkil jeena yahan
Oh my dear heart, life is but a struggle here
Zara hat ke zara bach ke, yeh hai Bombay meri jaan
Be a bit alert, be a bit street wise, this is Bombay my love
O.P. Nayyar Masterpiece. Rafi did great. Johny Walker is fantastic. Best Bombay song in all of Hindi movies. What a memorable hit song! Thanks for uploading and giving the subtitles.

Brilliant lyrics. The lines sung by Geeta Dutt totally turns things around. Terrific
Beautiful song by Mohd. Rafi & Geeta Dutt with a comedy touch & realistic approach depicting a scene of a metro city where life is very tough for a common man. This song will never be old
Nice song.... no one ever born like Johny Walker.... best comedian in Bollywood.
True
What a song, as rich in its message as it in its composition. Yet another product of that golden era.
She may go by Bombay to some, Mumbai to others, but a rose by any other name would still smell as sweet. Yeh hai Bombay meri jaan!!! There's not a more magical city in the world!
Ohhh my old charming Mumbai...how beautiful it was
evergreen Lyrics, Bombay will never change ..

+Uppie Sam bilkul shi farmaya sahab aapne rafi sahab apne aap me puri sangeet ki book the..

They were really quality singer.
They don't write such meaningful lyrics these days
In 2023, when I visited Mumbai, this song kept playing in my head. I've traveled to many places, but Mumbai has a unique charm that draws you in. It's the kind of city you want to return to after experiencing it. I sat for hours at Marine Drive, saw the Gateway of India, walked through the museum, and experienced the peaceful ocean at night. This song perfectly captures the spirit of Mumbai.
Awesome song...Today's western musical songs cant touch our hearts like those oldies do...full of meaning and Music, not like today's Songs..
Except the music is copied from “oh my clementine” so it’s not exactly our music
Sums up Aamchi Mumbai in a nutshell. Amazing how this song is more relevant 60 years on. Mumbai is an emotion they say, but that is just glossing over the cold dark reality, the city silhouettes!
even though I'm from chennai I feel Bombay stays close to my heart !!
इस सदाबहार गीत में बिल्कुल सही कहा है ओल्ड इज़ गोल्ड
Rafi Saab and Johnny could create magic.
NCERT Book told me that the first cotton mill opened in 1854 in Bombay.

Those children's are running behind to see the shooting.
But those are now elder than me.
The healthiest children ever.
I am from Lahore Pakistan. But this song is in my blood right from my childhood days. After all Lahore, Delhi, Bombay and Karachi are sister cities.
We the people of Indian subcontinent
Badruddin tayyabi aka Johny walker was one of the most complete actor
Sadly today's generation doesn't know about him much.
He was much better the small hearted big b and Rajesh khanna sadly no one remember him now
it was that bombay back then and its still the same mumbai today and it will be forever... No other song has defined mumbai so perfectly
This song reminds me of my childhood days when we used to listen this song in a TV serial...
Johny walker and Muhammad Rafi 2 legends!!
Don't forget Geeta Dutt ji. ❤ Her voice in the end part is Like cherry on cake ❤️
The golden generation of music. Such songs are not made in today’s world unfortunately. This was probably my song of that decade. ❤❤
Is gaane ke lyrics...ek dum sahi kahe gaye hain...
Great song....everything was normal in bombay till 1993....but everything changed after the 1993 serial bomb blasts....

After seeing these actings and listening these songs, now we can confidently say that the Indian cinema is destroyed...
What an actor Jonny Walker and What a singer Mohammad Rafi "True Legends."
Listened to this gem hundred times !
Timeless,,,,,,,,,,the melody, the music, the golden voice and of course, the message.........
Johnny walker walks away singing the face and facade of Bombay . The city of dreams but despair , the city of professionalism but pressure , the city of ambition but anguish . what can we say of Bombay _ a mixed bag of opportunities . Survival of the fittest theory apply to Bombay .
Truth was told even before I was born salute ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Wish those old days could come back :( love Mumbai :3
More than 60 years and is still relatable to Bombay. Every single word.
Wonderful Rafi-OPN-Geeta triumvirate. Nice composition orchestration & rythm.
