Haha. I was writing for a university student magazine in 1988 and given a promo EP by Nitzer Ebb to review. I loved all the tracks, but especially this one. Don’t have the review I wrote anymore but I do recall describing it as ‘electro-funk’. Had no idea it was an English band. All I had to go on was the music on the EP.
This is such a fucking tune, like these guys being from the uk is the coolest thing ever, like when this came out it really was edm but just never got recognition. Now when you listen it’s just pure admiration of how fucking industrial their sound is. Absolutely slaps
I remember seeing them at The Rocket in Holloway Road, I was right at the front being squashed, elbows first onto the stage by the weight of about 100 people behind me. By the end of the gig, my elbows were raw and bleeding :-)
@d R Yes, the repetitive hypnotic bassline going louder and quieter alternatively, raw drumpad, mostly muttered lyrics with warm and husky voice. It might be perceived differently by you if you're not attracted to men, but NE makes really sensual music. I don’t get the same feeling from any other EBM band (like F242, Frontal or Pouppee Fabrikk etc.). They even remarked in some interview that their tracks are supposed to sound quite sexy. For me, perhaps contrary to popular belief, industrial music is generally very emotional - screaming, declaring, mumbling, singing - and sometimes sexy as well

Numb и Skinny Puppy - куда же без них, но это уже для тех, кто не боится зубов этого стиля. Как альтернатива - Cabaret Voltaire (особенно если начать с Micro-Phonies), Front 242, какие-нибудь Zwaremachine и излишне захейченные KMFDM.

Saw them twice, in '91 and '93. Once in Sweden with the venue full of Nazis waving Swastika flags and things, and once in Oslo with the place full of hippies. Very strange and I'm not sure what to make of it.
