I love the music of Joseph Boulogne. He was also known as Le Mozart Noir- the Black Mozart. Such a rival in ability and during the same era. He endured a lot of discrimination and prejudice in his day; many of his works were destroyed by people who couldn’t bear to see a black man receive the kind of acclaim he did. What ever of his that survives to this day is a treasure. The members of Chineke! are doing justice to this piece. Bravi, tutti!
This is such a great recording! I'd love to play this, but am having trouble finding this particular arrangement (with string bass) -- is this available, or did you do the arrangement yourselves?
There is a clear lack of repertoire for this combination. I have played Bass in the Rossini quartet. Much of the Bass part is given to the horn in the wind quintet version, in which I had previously played French Bassoon, and it came as a surprise that the original part was so different from the bassoon part.
You don't need to alter top and bottom part scores. Most viola players have played violin and very little of the Vl2 part needs to be played on the top string of the violin. Exceptions can be marked down an octave for (in effect) a three string violin. The 'cello player needs to use a variant of the B flat clarinet player's means of playing a non-transposed part one note higher than notated. You need to alter the key signature and it is helpful to know where the tonic is. Any note is either on a space or a line. If on a space, the notehead touches the line below, so you play the note below. If on a line, the bottom half of the note is in the space below. Read the bottom half of the notes. Co-temporary French players would have read 5 clefs. In the C3 clef viola part, the bottom space is the third string open string G2. A 'cello player is used to reading that in the F4 clef as A, so, again, you just play the note below. The tuning is the same.
This string quartet is so joyful and looks fun to play. These musicians did an awesome job, I'm gonna search for more of their work
this is wonderful !
I love how engaged the musicians are with each other.
They are amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!😍😄
this video made me feel like I was in a movie at a very fancy restaurant.
Lovely job. ❤️
Excellent!
